Lila smiled. "Maybe you should just walk away while you can," she warned.
The man's face contorted in confusion. What the hell was she talking about? He stepped forward—but then his body froze, as if no longer under his control.
Lila stepped from behind Alice, her eyes glowing a soft pink. The man's confusion turned to fear. He stuttered, "Wha—what the hell are you?"
Lila's smile turned sinister as she whispered something in his ear. His face paled, and tears streamed down his cheeks, but his body obeyed her unspoken command. He turned and walked away, his movements stiff, as though he was struggling against invisible chains.
Lila's expression hardened as she turned to Alice. "Get in the car."
Alice hesitated but knew better than to question her. She climbed into the passenger seat, and as soon as Lila joined her and started the engine, Alice blurted out, "What did you—"
A gunshot rang out.
