Chapter 1 - Lone Girl

It all started when my stepfather moved in with us, I lost my companion, my best friend, and my mother.

He came with all sorts of rules and regulations.

He made my life a living hell, talk about the abuse; physical, verbal, emotional and financial you name it. I was isolated from the world; imagine a high school girl with no friends then you'd totally understand my fate 😭 😭.

Let's take it back a bit, my name is MMA, a Nigerian girl staying in the suburbs. I lost my daddy when I was just 6 years old but those years I remember with my daddy were the best years of my life..

Afternoon daddy died life took a turn for the worst, we could barely feed my mom had to do multiple jobs just to keep us afloat, we were in numerous debts. People called us names, people avoided selling to us because they knew it will be on credit, it was so bad. I think it was our situation that pushed my mother to go for a second husband.

When my mother was dating , the first two months was bliss until they got married and my stepfather moved into our house because his was smaller, that it dawned on me thhe hell I was going to live in...

It started with rules, when I say rules I mean lots of rules.

1. I'm not allowed to talk when he is talking.

2. My mother is not allowed to talk when he's talking.

3. I'm not allowed to go out even to the front porch without taking permission.

4. I'm not allowed to use the toilet before he does every morning.

5. I'm not allowed to eat before he does anytime of the day, morning, afternoon, and night, unless he is not at home.

6. When I wake up in the morning I go and I kneel down and I greet him, same afternoon whenever he's at home, I have to kneel down to greet him in the morning, in the afternoon, in the night, it does not matter if we we were in the house together from morning, once it's 12:00 I have to go back and greet him..

After the first week I wasn't going to take it no more, I complained to my mother and all she said was "this is our life now dear" .

I could practically see fear all over her face, why? I asked her, why do I have to keep up with him, he's not my father I said.

But she said I had to, that I had no choice.

So I lived in this hell for 5 years until ...
