Chapter 28 - *One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 28)*

The Thousand Sunny was tossed like a leaf in a storm as the monstrous guardian's energy continued to lash out. The crew, battered but unyielding, stood resolute, knowing they had to find a way to break the beast's stranglehold over them.

Luffy grinned, his eyes locked on the glowing runes embedded in the creature's massive form. "We've got this. Let's smash those runes and show it who's boss!"

Zoro, his swords drawn and face set in determination, was already charging at one of the tentacles that lashed toward them. "I'll keep these tentacles busy. You get to those runes!"

Sanji followed suit, his legs engulfed in flames as he launched himself toward another attacking tentacle. "Don't need to tell me twice. I'll make sure it doesn't get too close."

Robin, her eyes scanning the creature, focused on its core. "Luffy, look closely. The runes are concentrated around the heart of the creature. We have to reach it and destroy them if we want to stop this."

Luffy nodded, cracking his knuckles. "Leave it to me!"

With a burst of speed, Luffy stretched his body, launching himself toward the guardian's exposed chest. The glowing runes pulsed brighter as he neared, their energy intensifying. As his fist collided with the dark energy barrier protecting the runes, a shockwave erupted, sending Luffy crashing to the ground.

"Ugh! This thing's tougher than it looks!" Luffy groaned, his body aching but undeterred.

Meanwhile, Zoro and Sanji were in the thick of the battle, cutting and kicking through the tentacles, each strike hitting with force but only slowing the beast temporarily. The tentacles were relentless, grabbing and swinging, their dark energy pulsating with power.

Sanji gritted his teeth as he delivered another fiery kick to one of the tentacles. "Damn, these things just keep coming!"

Zoro slashed at the tentacle, his swords leaving deep cuts, but it was clear that the creature's regenerative ability was keeping it alive. "We need to weaken it somehow, or we'll be here all day!"

Robin, using her abilities to stretch and bind the tentacles, attempted to hold them in place long enough for the crew to gain an advantage. "It's no use. These tentacles just regenerate too fast."

"Then let's focus on the heart!" Luffy shouted, picking himself up and dusting off his clothes. He nodded toward Robin, determination gleaming in his eyes. "We'll go for the core! You cover us, Robin!"

With that, Luffy, followed by Zoro and Sanji, launched toward the creature's heart, the key to ending this battle. The creature roared, thrashing wildly as if trying to shake them off, but they pressed forward.

As they reached the heart, they saw it clearly for the first time—a pulsating mass of dark energy, surrounded by glowing runes. The power radiating from it was unlike anything they had ever encountered, dark and ancient, threatening to crush them with its overwhelming force.

Luffy reached out, aiming a punch at the core, but before he could strike, a blast of energy surged from the creature's heart, sending him flying back into the air.

"Not so fast!" Luffy yelled, recovering midair with a determined grin. "Gomu Gomu no… GATLING!"

Luffy's fists rained down on the creature's heart with rapid, powerful punches, each blow shattering the barrier of dark energy bit by bit. Zoro rushed forward, his swords slashing in rapid succession, and Sanji kicked fiercely, using his Diable Jambe to deliver an inferno of fiery strikes to the core.

The creature roared in agony, its tentacles flailing wildly as it tried to defend itself. But with each strike, its power began to diminish. The runes on its body flickered and dimmed, their glow waning with each blow.

Finally, after a final flurry of attacks, Luffy landed a massive punch directly on the core, shattering the remaining barrier. The creature's entire form convulsed in pain, its tentacles collapsing to the sea as the runes around its body shattered into nothing.

With a final, guttural roar, the guardian fell, its enormous body sinking back into the ocean, disappearing beneath the waves.

The crew stood panting, exhausted but victorious. The Sunny rocked slightly, but the immediate danger had passed.

"That was a hell of a fight," Sanji said, wiping sweat from his brow.

Zoro sheathed his swords, nodding. "Yeah, but it was just a symptom of something bigger. Whoever's behind this isn't going to give up that easily."

Robin, her expression serious, added, "That creature was no ordinary guardian. It was meant to stop us, to keep us from reaching something. There's more going on here than we realize."

Luffy, ever optimistic, grinned and punched his fist into the air. "Well, whatever it is, we'll deal with it! Let's get to the next island and find out who's behind all this!"

The crew's spirits lifted as they sailed forward. Despite the danger they had just faced, the Straw Hat Pirates were undeterred. Whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, ready to uncover the truth and claim their freedom.

As the Sunny sailed onward, the mystery deepened, but one thing was certain—the Straw Hat Pirates would not back down.

To be continued…
