Chapter 24 - The shelter has been breached!

The monsters seemed determined to force their way through, and their hoarse howls easily pierced the shelter's thick walls.

Several hours went by, with everyone in the shelter very much afraid.

Each attack seemed more violent than the last, so much so that the armored door shook.

Gradually, cracks appeared on the surface, threatening to give way at any moment.

Seeing this scene, everyone began to panic.

If these monsters could get in, they would undoubtedly slaughter everyone here with ease.

This was the helpless fate of ordinary people.

Adam hugged Leo tighter, his eyes riveted on the door that seemed ready to give way. He didn't even dare look around.

The other survivors were just as frightened, some moaning, others crying, while cries of anguish emanated from the whole crowd. Tension was running high.

And then, suddenly, a final, furious bang sounded.

Part of the door gave way, and a hole was created.

A cold shiver ran down Adam's spine. He could feel the end approaching.

Just then, a red eye, burning with rage, appeared through the gap.

The scene was truly frightening, for this eye was watching them like a predator watching its prey.

Then suddenly, a claw passed through the hole and ripped the armored door completely open.

Leaving barely enough room to let in a hideous-looking monster.

Adam saw the beast enter and force its way through with its unreasonably powerful body.

Then it slowly approached the humans, its muscles taut and ready to destroy everything in its path.

But he took his time, watching all these prey and wondering which one he should start with.

Adam hugged Leo even tighter, ready to do anything to protect him.

But suddenly a flash of light, as bright as a bolt of lightning, illuminated the whole room.

Before anyone had time to react, a thud sounded.

As if something heavy had fallen to the floor.

As the flash faded, Adam could see the beast's head roll across the floor and come to rest right in front of him and his brother.

Adam froze, his mouth dry and his eyes riveted on the monstrous head.

From the shadows, an imposing figure emerged, striding forward calmly and confidently.

Adam recognized him immediately.

Indeed, it was his teacher, Arval.

He didn't say a word and went outside through the destroyed door to finish off the other monsters that had attacked the shelter.

In less than 2 minutes, he returned, his uniform still impeccable.

Adam couldn't believe his eyes.

"Thank you, Master Arval!"

"Yes, thank you Master Arval for saving us!"

"In the future if you need to build a house or villa count on me and my company, we'll only charge you cost price!"

"The same goes for my electrical company, if ever there's a need we'll send you an electrician free of charge to help you!"

"As a thank you, you can come into my bakery any time you like! Everything will be free!"

Thank you notes emerged one after another from the crowd.

Everyone here including Adam had just escaped disaster, and despite the trauma, it was the most joyous moment they'd ever experienced in their lives.

After all, what could make you happier than knowing you're alive with a future when you thought you'd die horribly the moment before?

For them, the scene of people and soldiers being torn apart and eaten by these creatures was going to happen again!

And having already seen this scene with their own eyes, no one but them could imagine the fear they felt seconds before they were saved!

"It's my duty as your master to protect the population, you don't need to thank me." announced Master Arval without changing his expression.

He'd lived through this scene many times, and despite the gratitude of the people here, there was always a dark side.

"Here, it seems they want to use me as a calling card." Master Arval thought silently.

It wasn't uncommon: once a prestigious client used or recommended a company's services, it could open many doors.

So these entrepreneurs and merchants could gain enormously if Arval really came to solicit their products or services.

"The master is so humble!

"Forgive us master but if it's your duty then our duty is that you don't have to worry about trivial things!"

Simultaneously, the intelligent people began to reply, all with kind smiles on their faces.

Under the circumstances, it was hard to tell who was sincere and who had thoughts other than gratitude in the back of their heads.

So the professor didn't really care, and above all there were other citizens in danger.

So he quickly left the shelter, leaving people distraught and, above all, with a new sense of insecurity.

After all, the shelter door had been completely destroyed.

What would happen if an undetected monster appeared again?

As if their concerns had been heard, a group of soldiers disembarked.

Adam noticed that they seemed much stronger and fiercer than the soldiers originally guarding the shelter.

"Don't panic! You are now under the responsibility of the 8th army warrior squad!"

At the same time, the leader of this squad began to dispatch his men into the area to do reconnaissance and rescue work, while only 3 men including the leader remained here.

But no one was worried!

This was a squad of warriors!

The warriors, although a rank below masters such as Arval, were the army's main backbone for dealing with monsters and other events that might arise.

Each of them could easily rival any of the previous monsters that attacked them.

Especially as this was the 8th squad, and the number was very important in the army, as it represented ranking in the army.

No one knew how many warrior squads there were in the city, but there were at least a hundred!

How prestigious was it to be the 8th warrior squad?

These townspeople didn't know, but they all felt safe in the knowledge.

Everyone began to wait patiently in the shelter for things to settle down.

And as expected, as time went by, the sounds of guns, bombs and the like diminished, finally ceasing altogether after 5 long hours of waiting in the shelter.
