Chapter 3: The Whispering Catacombs
The map led Elena deep into the catacombs, a maze of dark tunnels hidden beneath the city. The walls were damp and cold, and each step echoed loudly in the silence. It felt like the walls were alive, watching her every move. Elena's heart raced. There was something in the air, something ancient and powerful that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
The deeper she went, the more she felt the strange pull of the place. The tunnel opened into a large chamber, dimly lit by glowing crystals embedded in the walls. In the center of the room stood a stone pedestal, and on it was the book she had found earlier. The book seemed to hum, calling her to it.
When she touched it again, everything changed. The room seemed to shift, and Elena felt herself being pulled into the past. Visions filled her mind—visions of a city lost to time, a place that was both beautiful and terrifying. A woman appeared in her vision, someone who looked exactly like Elena, but from another time, another world.
Before she could understand what was happening, the vision faded, and the room returned to normal. Elena was left breathless, confused. What was this place? And why did the woman in the vision look like her?
