Debbie fumbled for her phone, grateful for the
distraction. It was a text from Felix.
"Where are you? Dinner's ready. Don't keep me waiting—I made something special."
Debbie couldn't help but smile at the message, her heart softening. She looked back at Pasco, whose expression had shifted from tender to wary.
"Felix?" he guessed, his tone sharp.
"Yeah," Debbie admitted, stepping back. "He's… waiting for me. "
Pasco's jaw tightened. "So, that's it? You're just going to leave?"
"I have to," Debbie said firmly. "This was… nice, Pasco. But it doesn't change what happened."
"I still love you, Debbie," Pasco blurted out, desperation creeping into his voice.
Debbie hesitated, her heart twisting at his words. "Maybe you do," she said softly. "But love isn't enough. Not after everything."
