Chapter 1 - A NEW BEGINNING

Many years ago, in the last days of World War III, it was all broken and dying. Nations failed under this destructive war, and the prospects of saving the human species were poor. With resources vanishing fast and the end of humanity near, a novel idea arose: humanity needs to break free from Earth, leave that planet behind and find themselves a new life in other stars.

It was at this critical juncture that an unlikely nation, North Korea, found itself at the center of a groundbreaking decision. Despite its reputation as a secretive, isolated country, North Korea was awarded the contract to develop the world's first spacefaring vessels—ships capable of transporting humanity to new planets. The global community was stunned. Why North Korea? The world had seen them as little more than a pariah state, known for its military posturing and secrets. How had they, of all nations, acquired the knowledge and resources to build such ships?

The answer, hidden beneath layers of political secrecy, had its roots in a long-standing and secretive project that had been carefully concealed from the rest of the world.

In the research underground facility, hidden deep in North Korea, brilliant scientists and engineers worked tirelessly to materialize a century-long dream of humanity: reaching the space. Amongst them was Dr. Sung Park, a young physicist with works, well advanced propulsion systems, that were important for the eventual success of the project. He had been handpicked because of his expertise, although he was never enlightened as to why North Korea was chosen rather than some more developed country with an existing space program.

It was late one evening when, sitting side by side with his colleague Dr. Blake, reviewing schematics for the new spacecraft, that the question of North Korea's involvement came up. For years, Dr. Blake, an aerospace engineer who had defected from the United States, had kept his mouth shut about the deeper layers of the project, but tonight, the weight of the mystery seemed too much to bear.

"Dr. Blake," Dr. Park asked, his voice tinged with curiosity, "Why did the world choose North Korea to build these ships? I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I just. I don't understand. North Korea is isolated, they have no major space program. Why them?"

Dr. Blake paused, looking at the schematic in front of her. She was a woman who did not waste words, but she felt that Dr. Park was not the only one with doubt. This decision had been puzzling all those involved in this project especially for those who knew the real extent of the resources playing here.

She put down her pen and leaned back in her chair, looking at him with thoughtful consideration. "It's because they kept everything hidden, Park," she said, her voice low and cautious. "While the rest of the world was busy during the war, North Korea was secretly gathering materials. Technologies, rare elements-things that didn't even exist in the knowledge base of the rest of the world. They built their cache before people even knew what was happening."

Dr. Park raised an eyebrow. "You mean they were prepared for this? That sounds like something out of a science fiction novel."

Dr. Blake nodded. "Exactly. They were five steps ahead of everyone else. While the rest of the world fought, they were quietly stockpiling what they needed to survive and to thrive beyond Earth. They knew what was coming long before anyone else did. North Korea was playing a much longer game."

This sent ripples in Dr. Park's mind as he absorbed her words. Could it be? Had North Korea indeed prepared for the inevitable meltdown of Earth? But there was a tone with Dr. Blake that made him uncomfortable. There was more to the story, and she knew it.

Dr. Blake leaned in closer, her voice dropping even lower, as if sharing a secret too dangerous to be heard by anyone else. "There's more to it, Park. Something that. no one is supposed to know. The world leaders think they're in control, but they're not. North Korea wasn't just planning for space travel. They were planning something much bigger. Something that could change everything. And I. I've seen it."

Dr. Park blinked in shock. "What is it? What do you mean?"

Dr. Blake's face darkened, and for the first time, Dr. Park saw a trace of fear in her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something but hesitated. She then leaned back and took a deep breath, "I cannot tell you, Park. Not yet. It's too dangerous. But believe me, what they've been hiding—what they've been preparing for—if it comes out, it'll destroy everything we know. And if I tell you now, you'll be in danger as well."

Dr. Park was speechless. His mind whirled with questions, but before he could ask another, Dr. Blake abruptly stood up, her face pale. "We need to go," she said urgently. "Now. There's no time to explain."

Dazed but intuitive to the gravity in her tone, Dr. Park trailed behind her as she hastened to gather her belongings. Thick air clung in the lab; something felt really amiss in that darkness.

The two ran down the sterile hallways of the underground facility. Their footsteps echoed off the cold concrete walls. However, they were not able to escape until it was too late. Heavy boots pounded on the ground. Dr. Blake froze, her eyes wide with terror.

"Get out!" she hissed, grabbing Dr. Park by the arm and pulling him toward a side door. "They're coming for me. You need to go. Now."

"What's happening?" Dr. Park asked, panic rising in his chest.

Dr. Blake turned to him, her eyes filled with an unspoken urgency. "You have to trust me. Whatever happens, you have to promise me you'll remember what I said. And whatever you do. don't stop looking for the truth."

Before Dr. Park could utter a word, she pushed him through the side door and closed it behind him. The last view of his life was of her face, pale and intent, as she turned away to listen to the sound of approaching footsteps.

The world awoke the next morning to startling news. Brilliant aerospace engineer Dr. Blake, who had defected from the United States to join the project, was found dead. The official report said she had taken her own life, a tragic end to a brilliant career. But Dr. Park knew better. The fear in her eyes, the urgency in her voice—they had been a warning. Dr. Blake hadn't died by her own hand. She had been silenced.

Rumors started to spread, whispering about the secrets Dr. Blake uncovered before her death. Some thought that she was killed to hide the truth, while others were whispering about the world leaders being involved in something darker than anyone's imagination. Dr. Park, still shaken by all this, found himself in the middle of something much bigger than he could ever have anticipated.

But Dr. Blake had sent him off with a warning: *Do not cease looking for the truth.*

Days turned into weeks, and still Dr. Park couldn't stop the feeling inside him that something more monumental was being referred to; it was no simple matter of conspiracy. This had the possibility to reshape humanity itself and threatened to rip it all to shreds.

The question that haunted him was no longer just about the spacefaring ships. It was about the truth. And the truth, he was certain, would cost him everything.
