Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Xu Yishan (Revised Translation)

"When I rushed to the police station in a hurry, I saw the master and a bald police officer in the duty room, talking about something.

When the master first told me to come to the police station, I had wondered if he was in some kind of trouble, maybe even arrested. I thought I would have to help him out, and in my mind, I even prepared the entire backstory of our relationship. However, when I arrived, I was greeted by a completely different scene.

"You're here. Come take a look and see if you recognize anyone in these photos," the master called me over. The police officer, with a Mediterranean-style haircut, didn't object, which made me more curious about their relationship. Could the master be so powerful that he had informants in the police station?

I remembered that the master had called someone earlier, asking me to describe the man I saw that day. Could it be that this police officer was the one on the other end of the line? If that was the case, there was no better source for personal information than the police system.

I obediently walked up to the computer, where there were several photos of people. All of them had a common feature—a prominent mole under their left eye, which was very noticeable and rare. I couldn't believe that the police had already identified so many people in just one night. Finding someone was indeed much easier when you handed it to the police.

To help me, Officer Li stood up and gestured for me to sit down.

I started flipping through the pictures on the computer, while the two men behind me continued chatting casually.

"I never expected that you'd take on a disciple, Master."

"I have to make sure my skills are passed on," the master replied casually.

From their conversation, I learned that this police officer was someone the master had helped in the past. Over time, they had become friends, and whenever the master needed help, the officer was happy to assist within his abilities.

"Found him!" I finally said after flipping through several pages of photos. In a sea of faces, I found the one I had seen that day, the fleeting figure.

That day when I saw the long-haired female ghost, even though I had only briefly crossed paths with him, his face was still deeply etched in my memory.

I stood up, allowing Officer Li to take my place. He entered a string of commands, and soon the man's information appeared on the screen.

The man I had seen that day was Xu Yishan, a well-known real estate mogul.

After getting Xu Yishan's details from the police station, the master and I immediately set off to his current residence.

"Master, what should we say when we get in? Should we tell him that his current wife is being haunted by his ex-wife's ghost and that we need to help him with a wrongful death case?"

The master rolled his eyes. "If you say it like that, you'll be kicked out in less than 30 seconds. Just stay quiet when we get in, and I'll handle it."

Not long after, the door opened, and Xu Yishan appeared in front of us, looking a bit chubby.

He furrowed his brows when he saw us. "What are you two doing here? Do you need something?"

The master stepped forward politely and confirmed that he was Xu Yishan. After Xu Yishan nodded, the master continued.

"Mr. Xu, I have a question for you. Recently, have you been having nightmares? Do you feel like there's always someone watching you, even when you're walking? Has your behavior become erratic because of these hallucinations?"

Xu Yishan immediately became wary and stared at both the master and me. Before he could ask us to leave, the master spoke again.

"I am a Taoist priest. By chance, I passed by your place and sensed a strong negative energy here. I calculated and discovered that you have a serious problem. I wanted to know if you needed help."

When Xu Yishan heard this, his emotions became more agitated. Without another word, he shoved us both out of the yard.

Looking at the closed door, I was speechless. The master had said he would handle everything, but it didn't seem to have worked at all. Instead of feeling awkward about being thrown out, the master seemed confident. "Don't worry. He'll come to me by tomorrow. Now, let's go prepare some things."

I wasn't sure why he was so confident, but I instinctively trusted him and followed him to make preparations.

The master took me to an antique shop, claiming we could buy what he needed here. Was this really just a shopping trip for antiques?

But soon enough, the reality slapped me in the face. The shopkeeper seemed to know the master well, as he immediately led us to the basement without any questions.

In the basement, I realized that we weren't alone. A man in black, wearing a mask and a hat, was already there. I didn't get a good look at him, and the master warned me not to stare, so I quickly averted my gaze and followed the master closely.

Every time the master picked up an item, he would explain its purpose and what it was used for. I diligently noted everything he said.

To my surprise, the master only bought three talismans, which I couldn't make out, along with a few copper coins and small bottles. The total came to more than 90,000 yuan. I was stunned when I heard the price.

After leaving the shop, I finally asked, "Master, is everything here really this expensive?"

"Compared to your life, do you think this is expensive or cheap?"

Well, to survive, what was a bit of money?

When we returned to the funeral home, I received a letter. It didn't have an address, and there was no name, but when I opened it, I found two bloody words written on the paper: "Jade, Human."

I didn't know what these two words meant. When I brought the paper close to my nose, I realized it was cinnabar, not real human blood, but I didn't feel relieved. In fact, it made me even more puzzled.

Who had sent me this letter? Could the "jade" refer to the one I was wearing? And who was the "human"?

It seemed that I had unknowingly gotten involved in something much bigger than I realized. Not only did I need to escape from these ghosts, but now I also had to watch out for someone plotting against me.

The next day, as expected, Xu Yishan came to find the master, looking tired and desperate.
