A few days later, Emma received an unfamiliar text message, informing her that Mark had been released. She didn't need to guess who the message was from, she could even guess with her toes.
Emma sneered, turned off her phone, and went to the wardrobe to change her clothes. She also put on a light and appropriate makeup. Then, when Ethan left, she silently followed him with her small bag.
In the car, Ethan withdrew his gaze from the tablet and looked at her. "What's the matter again?"
The word "again" indicated that in the past few days, it was not the first time that Emma had taken the initiative to approach him.
"Husband, I'll accompany you to work."
Emma sat in the car with a smiling face and took the initiative to link arms with him.
Ethan scrutinized her.
Emma sincerely looked back at him and even blinked. "Husband, let's go! Today, I'll be your assistant and I promise not to disturb your work."
After a while, Ethan withdrew his gaze and ordered coldly, "Let's go."
The driver silently started the car.
Emma looked down at their linked hands and smiled. She took advantage of the situation and leaned her head against his shoulder.
Ethan glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
Emma looked innocent and said, "Hubby, I feel dizzy when I'm in a car and need to lean on something."
Ethan replied, "If you feel dizzy, let's go back and sleep."
"No, no! I'll lean on you and smell your breath, and I won't feel dizzy," Emma said with a flattering smile. "I just want to accompany you to the company and see what you look like when you work seriously. I heard that serious men are very handsome!"
When they were about to arrive at the company, Ethan said coldly, "Whatever you're planning to do, you'd better be honest."
Emma raised her hand and said sincerely, "I promise to be honest."
Emma followed Ethan like a little tail, all the way to the CEO's office.
Shen Ethan's office was particularly spacious, occupying the entire top floor.
It was Emma's first time visiting Ethan's company, and she looked around like a tourist, complimenting him non-stop when she came out.
While Ethan was processing documents, she sat opposite him and helped with handing things over...
Although there was no real need for her to do so.
After half an hour, Emma's phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence in the room. Seeing the caller ID, she coldly chuckled, causing Ethan to look up at her.
"Emmy, I'm out now," Mark's voice came through the phone, intentionally lowering his tone to sound magnetic, gentle, and indulgent, making it hard for most women to resist.
"This time, I know everything. It's thanks to you that I was able to get out so quickly. Thank you, Emmy. Can we meet?" he asked softly.
Meet?
In response to Mark's invitation, Emma lifted the corner of her lips and asked, "Where?"
"You agreed?" Mark's voice was filled with joy. "I'll send you the address right away. Let's talk when we meet. There must have been a misunderstanding between us regarding what happened at your grandfather's place the last time, Emmy, you..."
Emma didn't listen to his long speech and hung up the phone directly.
Putting down her phone, Emma looked up at Ethan.
Emma reached out and lightly poked his arm with her finger.
Ethan looked up and gave her an inquiring look.
"Um...husband, I suddenly have something to do and need to go out for a while. Can you handle things on your own for now?" Emma whispered.
Ethan's brow furrowed slightly, his gaze cold and filled with suspicion as he stared at her intently.
Emma's voice softened as she spoke, pushing his arm gently like a spoiled child. "Can I go? I really have something to take care of..."
"Remember to close the door!"
Ethan coldly pushed her away, freeing his arm from her grasp. The words that escaped his thin lips were devoid of any warmth.
Emma blinked, then stood up abruptly. "Okay, got it!"
With that, she quickly turned and left without lingering.
The office fell silent, leaving only Ethan alone. But the faint fragrance of her lingered in the air, along with the chair she had sat in and the stuffed toy she had brought with her from who knows where.
His office certainly didn't have these kinds of things!
Something to take care of?
Who could she be meeting behind his back...
Ethan's gaze grew even colder, and he abruptly set aside the documents he was reading, picking up the phone to dial an internal line.
"Mr. Matthew?"
"Where did she go?"
There was a slight pause on the other end of the line--
Ethan's brow furrowed, and he gave a direct order. "Prepare a car and check her route."
Emma had only been in the taxi for less than five minutes when she saw a low-key black sedan following her from a distance in the rearview mirror.
Closing the window, Emma desperately suppressed the smile that threatened to break out on her face.
It seemed that her husband wasn't as cold as he appeared on the surface,or maybe he did care about her after all.
As soon as she showed a hint of suspicion, he immediately put down his work and followed her. However, considering that Ethan followed her because he didn't trust her, Emma was still very frustrated and wanted to slap herself in the face for how she used to act. She couldn't remember exactly what she was like years ago, but now she had to seize every opportunity to regain her husband's favor.
"Beep" - her phone made a soft sound, it was a message from Mark asking how long until she arrived. Emma's fingertips rubbed against the phone screen, a cold expression on her lips.
"Emma, come sit over here." In the coffee shop, mark greeted her to sit down. He was wearing a white shirt, with fair skin and a harmless smile, the type of person who easily won people's favor. Looking at the women around him, it was clear that they were secretly admiring him. In her past life, Emma was also deceived by his appearance. But now, every time she saw his smile, she felt sick.
After they sat down, Mark considerately ordered a drink for Emma before calmly asking, "Emma, did you hear something from somewhere?"
Emma raised an eyebrow and threw the topic back, "Hear what?"
What else could she have heard? Of course, it was something bad about him! Otherwise, why would she suddenly change her mind and put him in jail in front of everyone?
Thinking about his life in jail these past few days, Mark wanted nothing more than to strangle the woman in front of him.
He lowered his eyes, concealing the malice in them. When he looked up, his smile remained pure and innocent, but he appeared hesitant as he gazed at Emma, as if he had a thousand words and emotions to express.
Emma smiled faintly and took a sip of her coffee, quietly watching his performance.
However, at that moment, a loud noise suddenly came from the door, causing a commotion in the coffee shop.
Emma looked up and was slightly surprised to see her mother-in-law, Evelyn, standing at the door, glaring at her with eyes that seemed to be spitting fire.
