Chapter 10 - Desperate Escape

Aurora couldn't shake the feeling of danger that still lingered in the air. The rogue wolf's red eyes, the vicious fight—it all replayed in her mind like a nightmare. The forest felt darker now, the shadows stretching longer, as if the very trees were closing in on her. She walked closely behind Kael, every step making her more nervous, her heart racing faster.

"Kael," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "What if they come after us again? The rogue wolf… What if there are more of them?"

Kael didn't answer immediately. He kept walking ahead, his movements sharp and tense. It was clear that he was on high alert, his senses heightened after the fight. But even with the rogue defeated, there was a heaviness in the air, a sense that something worse was coming.

"They'll keep coming," Kael finally said, his voice low and grim. "We're not safe here anymore. The rogue wolves—they're being controlled by something… someone. There's a greater force out there, and we need to get away from this place."

Aurora felt a cold chill run down her spine. She had known that the war wasn't just between the humans and the wolves, but she hadn't realized how deep the threats went. First, the rogue, and now… something more. She wasn't sure she could handle this.

She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could speak, a sound caught her attention. The snapping of twigs. The rustling of leaves. And then, a voice—a voice that made her blood run cold.

"You think you can escape us, Kael? Think again."

Aurora's eyes widened as a figure stepped out of the shadows. It was a man, tall and cloaked in black. His eyes gleamed with a sickly yellow light, and there was something about him that sent a wave of terror through her. She didn't recognize him, but the coldness in his gaze told her everything she needed to know. He wasn't someone she wanted to meet.

Kael's stance immediately shifted, his body tensing, ready for another fight. He growled low, the sound rumbling in his chest like thunder. "You," he spat, his voice full of hatred. "I should have known it was you behind this."

The man smirked, his lips curling into a cruel grin. "I've been watching you, Kael. And I've been waiting. I knew you'd bring the princess here. How foolish of you."

Aurora stepped back, feeling the weight of the situation. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice trembling despite her best efforts to stay strong.

The man's grin widened. "I am Ashar, the one who controls the rogues. The one who has been orchestrating this war from the shadows."

The name sent a chill through Aurora. Ashar. She had heard whispers of him, rumors of a dark figure who commanded rogue wolves and sowed chaos among the packs. But she had never imagined she would meet him like this.

"You're the one pulling the strings," Kael said, his voice full of disgust. "You've been controlling them, turning them against us."

Ashar laughed, a cold, unsettling sound. "Not just controlling them, Kael. I've been guiding them. I've been preparing the wolves to rise up against the humans. And I'll make sure that nothing stands in my way. Not you, not the princess, not anyone."

Aurora's breath caught in her throat. She had thought the rogue wolf was just an isolated threat, but Ashar was something far worse. He was the mastermind, the one who had been causing all the chaos. He wasn't just a danger to the wolves, he was a threat to everyone.

"Why are you telling me this?" Kael asked, his eyes narrowing. "What's your plan?"

Ashar's smile faded, replaced by a cold expression. "Because you're going to help me. You, Kael. You and the princess." He looked at Aurora, his eyes gleaming with malice. "You are the key to my victory. And whether you like it or not, you will help me get what I want."

Aurora felt her blood run cold. "What do you want with me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ashar's smile returned, but it was more terrifying than before. "You are more than just a princess, Aurora. You are a symbol. You're the bridge between the humans and the wolves. With you, I can control both sides of this war. I can tear both kingdoms apart and rise above them all."

Aurora's mind was spinning. She had thought she was fighting for peace, that she could stop the war. But now, she realized how little control she had. Ashar was using her, and she was just another piece in his game.

Kael stepped forward, his fists clenched. "I'll never let you use her, Ashar. I'll fight you with everything I have."

Ashar's laugh echoed through the trees, mocking Kael's words. "You can't stop me, Kael. You never could. And now, you've sealed your fate. You've brought the princess to me. And I will not let you take her away."

Suddenly, the ground beneath them trembled. The sound of howling wolves echoed through the forest, growing louder, closer. Ashar's control over the rogues was undeniable, and Aurora realized that they were surrounded.

Kael looked at her, his expression hard. "We need to get out of here. Now."

Before Aurora could react, Kael grabbed her wrist, pulling her into the trees, away from Ashar and the growing pack of rogues closing in around them. Her heart pounded in her chest as they ran, the sound of footsteps echoing behind them. She didn't look back, but she could hear the growls, the snarls, the heavy breaths of the wolves chasing them.

They ran through the dark woods, branches snapping as they pushed forward. Kael's grip on her hand was firm, but Aurora could feel the desperation in his touch. He wasn't just trying to escape Ashar—he was trying to protect her.

But as the howls grew louder, Aurora knew they couldn't outrun this. Ashar had made it clear—he wasn't going to let them go.

With each step, Aurora felt the weight of the situation pressing down on her. She was no longer just a princess. She was a target, a pawn in a war that had been brewing for years. And now, with Ashar after them, she wasn't sure how much longer they could keep running.

"Kael," she gasped, her breath coming in short bursts. "What… what do we do?"

Kael didn't answer, his face set in a grim determination. But Aurora could see it in his eyes—the truth. They were running out of time.

And they weren't going to be able to outrun Ashar forever.
