The Birthday Party
When Debby entered the living room on the evening of her birthday, she stopped in shock. The room was adorned with balloons and fairy lights, and a small cake sat on the table. Precious stood beside it, grinning.
"Happy birthday, Debby!" she exclaimed.
For a moment, Debby's heart swelled. Could this really be happening? After years of neglect, was her family finally showing her kindness? She allowed herself to smile, ignoring the voice in her head that warned her this might not be real.
The evening began innocently. They laughed, ate cake, and even took photos together. Precious showered Debby with compliments, and for the first time in years, Debby felt like she belonged.
As the night wore on, Precious suggested they continue the celebration at a club. "It's your special day," she insisted. "Let's make it unforgettable!"
Debby hesitated. She wasn't the type to party, but Precious's newfound warmth made it hard to refuse. She nodded, letting Precious guide her upstairs to get ready.
While applying makeup, Precious's jealousy boiled over. Seeing Debby's natural beauty in the mirror was unbearable. Precious tried layering more makeup on herself, but it only made her feel more insecure.
By the time they reached the club, Precious was barely holding her bitterness in check. Men's eyes followed Debby as they walked in, their admiration clear. Precious clenched her fists, seething.
At the bar, Precious ordered drinks, pretending to toast to Debby's happiness. When Debby declined the alcohol, Precious smirked, signaling the bartender to spike her juice.
