Part 5.
The therapist listened silently.
"So the words they've said and the way they act have destroyed your beliefs about yourself and made you believe you would be better off dead than living a life where no one cares about you or believes in you."
The Eden nodded, and the therapist nodded with empathy before continuing to speak.
"And your whole life, you've been constantly reminded how bad you are and that you're a failure and that no one believes in you or can help you."
The therapist remained silent for a moment, paying great attention to the main character.
"And it's not just your immediate family who treat you this way, right?"
The Eden nodded again, and the therapist went on speaking.
"I see. How about the teachers? For example, did your teachers say negative things about you or treat you poorly at school?"
Eden didn't respond; the therapist examined the protagonist calmly before speaking in a serious and compassionate tone.
"Alright, so essentially, everyone, family or not, has treated you badly and constantly put you down and made you feel like you're worthless, correct?"
The Eden nodded solemnly, and the therapist observed his reaction.
"So, everyone has treated you poorly and repeatedly told you that you are a failure who does not deserve anything. Everyone has treated you horribly your entire life, and all you've heard is that you shouldn't even be alive, correct?"
Eden kept looking at the tiles of the floor, and the therapist paused, studying Eden carefully.
"Because of this, you've given up hope that you'll ever feel better. You've given up hope of ever getting a job, feeling good about yourself, or feeling happy or wanted, correct?"
The therapist looked at Eden for awhile before continuing with a kind and cognizant tone.
"You've been made to feel like the world would be better off without you, and that no one would care if you died tonight."
The therapist penned it down in a notepad, and he most likely delivered these words aloud for Eden and himself, noting the main character's reactions; his own expressions were sympathetic.
"So essentially, your life doesn't feel like it means anything to anyone, and no one would care if you went through with it, correct?"
The therapist silently studied his overall reaction, allowing him opportunity to contemplate before speaking in a serious tone.
"Okay, so as a summary, everyone you've ever known has made you believe that you're worthless, no one should care about you, and even if you die, it won't matter, correct?"
Eden nodded and the therapist continued.
"And everyone around you either straight up says you're worthless, or just doesn't care and makes you feel bad, and never said anything nice to you or ever made you feel good about yourself at all."
The therapist then speak in a kind tone.
"As a result, you've lost all faith in things getting better, alongside belief in your own future. You no longer believe there is anything for you in this world, and you have given up hope of ever finding a job.
The therapist looked at Eden and spoke in a serious yet gentle tone.
"And right now, the only thing that feels like it'd be a good idea is just to die, right?"
The Eden nodded silently once more, and the therapist waited for a movement to grasp everything before saying in a sympathetic tone.
"I see. So, basically, you're claiming that because your family and others treated you poorly, you never had the opportunity to develop important life skills, correct?
The therapist spoke in a sincere tone, watching the main character carefully.
"So, what essentially happened was, basically you had to grow up not knowing how to do a lot of important stuff, all because the people who were supposed to help you failed in doing so, correct?"
Eden continued to listen and nodded silently.
"Okay, so what I'm getting is that because your parents and anyone else failed in helping and guiding you when you were young, you never really got the chance to learn how to do normal things, like applying for jobs, or driving a car, or preparing and cooking food, correct?"
Eden nodded again and the therapist continued to speak, his tone was sincere.
"And because of that, you believe that you never really learned how to be a proper adult and take care of yourself. The folks who were supposed to instruct you never did; they simply left you alone, correct?"
The therapist remained silent for a moment, his countenance indicating that he was intently monitoring his patient.
"And because of that, you feel useless, like you've failed at life already, and like your own parents don't even care enough about you to teach you anything, is that right?"
The Eden continued to listen carefully, expressing sympathy the therapist continues.
"And because of all those things, you feel like you failed at life already, like you're just a useless, hopeless mess that's going nowhere, is that right?"
Eden nodded and the therapist continued to speak, his expression was serious.
"And now, because you've been so messed up by the people you grew up with, you feel like you'll never have a chance to become normal, and you'll forever be behind, and your own family will always be disappointed in you, correct?"
"And essentially you're saying that, because of the mess up job your family did, teaching you all those things and getting you to feel like you weren't enough, you've been set behind for life and it'll only ever be down hill from here, right?"
The therapist spoke in a sincere and gentle tone.
"So the way you feel about your life and everything, is that it's all your own fault since you don't know how to do things you should, and it's too late now, and you don't have the will to try and learn because you see yourself as a failure, is that right?"
The therapist continued, while looking closely at his patient.
"And all because your family screwed up and didn't help you learn and make you feel good about yourself, you basically believe that there's no way to fix it now, right?"
The therapist continued to look at Eden, speaking in a serious tone.
"And because of all that, you feel like there's no way to recover, because your parents screwed your life up, and no one can or will help you get back on track, correct?"
The therapist paused briefly before continuing to speak.
"And on top of it all, you feel like, the only way you can avoid all the failure and disappointment and all the constant pain you've gone though your whole life, is to just end it, correct?"
The therapist spoke gently and quietly, with a sincere expression.
"And because of the way you see life and yourself, and everything that's happened, you've come to the conclusion that the only way to escape all the pain and the disappointment, is to end your life now, correct?"
The therapist kept gazing at Eden, and his tone seemed genuine.
"And that basically sums up everything, correct? Basically, because of the way the people you grew up with treated and raised you, you don't have any kind of goal in life and you can't see any future for yourself because you're so stuck, right?"
The therapist maintained eye contact and spoke in an understanding tone.
"And because of all that, you feel like there's no real reason to live because you know you'll never achieve anything, but you don't really want to go through all the disappointment of trying and failing either."
The therapist paused for a movement and, watched the main character.
"So you basically can't imagine any kind of future for yourself, and you've lost all faith in yourself, right?"
The therapist expression was sympathetic now.
"And you don't see yourself doing anything important, or anything at all, and you don't believe you're capable of doing anything right, correct?"
Eden nodded, and the therapist's tone got more serious now.
"And the worst of it all is, you've convinced yourself all your life that everything that's gone wrong, is completely your own fault, correct?"
"And the reason you feel that way, is because the people around you, your family, has always told you everything wrong was your own fault, correct?"
The therapist observed Eden carefully before speaking gently.
"And they've also made you feel like, it's completely your responsibility to do everything by yourself, right? Because they never did anything to help you, and they just left you to your own devices, correct?"
