Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Pillars of the Nation

Oscar was reporting on the front-line situation inside Duke Horace's tent. Horace sat at a wooden table in the center of the tent, a simplified map spread out before him. His eyes were fixed on the battle reports, showing signs of fatigue, but still exuding an undeniable authority.

"Duke Horace, His Majesty Leon's campaign on the front lines is progressing very smoothly. The defenses in Eldenia have nearly collapsed, and our next plan is to march toward Eldenia's capital to completely destroy the heart of that nation." Oscar's voice was filled with confidence, his face wearing a victorious smile.

Horace did not respond immediately. He remained silent for a moment before nodding slightly. "The downfall of Eldenia is now inevitable. Leon's decision-making and execution are undeniable. His attack speed has been rapid, leaving little opportunity for the enemy to counter." Horace paused, his gaze growing cold. "But we must not be complacent. Eldenia's capital still holds strategic significance. And our enemies are not just Eldenia, but also the tribes of Airtulan. If they join forces to counterattack, it could cause us trouble."

Oscar nodded, fully understanding Horace's point. As one of Leon's trusted subordinates, he knew Horace's cautious and calculating nature. It was precisely because of these traits that Horace had been appointed the primary commander in the rear, overseeing the strategic decisions and logistics of Strongson.

"I understand, Duke Horace. To ensure the safety of the rear, I will immediately send troops to heavily fortify the borders between Eldenia and Airtulan. This way, we will be prepared for any possible tribal retaliation or other unforeseen events," Oscar's voice was firm, resolute in his determination to protect the gains at the front.

Horace nodded gently, a faint smile appearing on his face as his gaze grew profound. "Oscar, I know you'll do well. You are one of His Majesty Leon's most trusted commanders, and your ability and loyalty are unquestionable. Remember, although our advance has gone well, this war is far from over. The tribes of Airtulan and other forces may still trouble us from behind. Stay vigilant."

Oscar stood up straight and saluted again. "I will follow your orders, Duke Horace. Victory in Eldenia is within reach, but our task is not yet finished."

Horace waved his hand, signaling for Oscar to prepare. "Go, Oscar. Make sure all preparations are in place to secure the rear. The victory of His Majesty Leon rests in your hands and the hands of your troops."

Oscar quickly left, carrying with him an unwavering sense of determination and responsibility, beginning to arrange the defense at the Eldenia border. He knew that while victory was within sight, the stability of the rear would be the key to determining the final outcome of the war. As for Horace, the brilliant Duke, he had become the unseen force quietly driving the war's progress behind Strongson's throne.
