Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: The Two Sisters in Hiding

Katherine and Irene traversed a long journey before finally reaching the eastern territories of Leon. This land was shrouded in the shadow of war, its border regions rife with urgency and chaos. Makeshift outposts dotted the landscape, manned by soldiers with weary faces, some resting while others engaged in hushed disputes. Wounded soldiers were continually being brought back, many of them hastily conscripted from various regions, resulting in a fragmented and disorganized situation.

As Katherine and Irene passed through the tumultuous area, the air was filled with murmurs of discontent and arguments. One soldier grumbled, "From Leon's core forces to us temporary conscripts, there's no unified chain of command. How can we trust such a system?" Another chimed in, "And that's not all. The logistics are a mess. Supplies are running low, and the troops in remote areas have no support. How can we win like this?"

Katherine's sharp eyes scanned the surroundings. She refrained from intervening in the disputes, choosing instead to observe the unfolding dynamics. She understood that to find opportunities in this chaos, she first needed to grasp its intricacies.

Irene stepped closer to Katherine and asked softly, "What do you think?"

After a moment of thought, Katherine responded in a calm and steady tone, "This army appears vast, but it's far from unified. The soldiers' loyalties are not entirely with Leon. The divisions and grievances among different regions are their greatest vulnerability."

Her gaze swept across the camp, noting groups of soldiers from remote territories, their interactions marked by evident mistrust. Katherine understood that if such a state persisted, future battles would only grow more challenging. Rather than rushing to intervene, she sought to exploit these divisions as potential opportunities.

"These troops operate under a loose command structure. If we can leverage their internal discord, we might find an entry point," Katherine said slowly. "But first, we must determine whether this territory's situation allows for our effective involvement."

Irene nodded. "Where should we begin?"

A glimmer of intent crossed Katherine's eyes. "Start from the junctions between the rear and the front lines. These areas may seem poorly managed, but they could be our chance. If the divisions among these forces persist, Leon's eastern defenses will inevitably develop vulnerabilities."

She silently observed the actions of the soldiers and commanders around her, contemplating the next steps of their plan. Katherine knew that this war extended far beyond the battles at the front—it was also a complex political chess game. She needed time to fully understand the realities of these troops and to identify exploitable weak points amid the chaos.

"We'll watch a bit longer," Katherine concluded with a tone of firm authority. "Don't act rashly until we confirm the feasibility of our plan."
