Chereads / Fate: Edmund / Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

With his body fully recovered, Edmund left the house and headed toward the clock tower. He wanted to see his friend Waver and tell him about his stay in Greece.

"Greek women are something else~ They can't be compared to English women."

Waver, his face flushed red, could only listen to Edmund's mischievous comments.

But he couldn't take it anymore—Waver was incredibly embarrassed because several students had overheard Edmund's words.

"S-Silence! Don't you realize everyone is listening to your crude remarks?!" Waver, desperately trying to shut Edmund up, covered his mouth with both hands in an attempt to silence him.

With composure, Edmund lowered Waver's arms and continued speaking bluntly.

"You don't understand, Waver. You have no idea what it feels like to touch the skin of the opposite sex. When you sleep with a woman, a whole new world will open before your eyes."

The two were in the auditorium, waiting for the professor to arrive, while the other students whispered among themselves, their gazes fixed on them.

Waver was mortified. He had no words to respond to Edmund, no idea what his friend was talking about. Or rather, he simply couldn't keep up with him.

Edmund wasn't expecting Waver to reply. Being naïve, he enjoyed teasing him whenever he had the chance. Waver's over-the-top reactions made it all the more entertaining—that was exactly why Edmund loved to mess with him.

"I guess he's looking for information... Aww, I'm still sleepy," he yawned, continuing to walk without Waver noticing him.

Since he was only planning to sleep at home, Edmund decided to follow him, hoping it wouldn't take too long.

Five hours later, Edmund was tired of waiting. Waver still hadn't finished searching for information about the Holy Grail War.

Edmund wondered why it was taking him so long—after all, he only needed to know that there were seven classes and seven Masters. It wasn't difficult to learn that.

He couldn't take it anymore. Edmund approached Waver and tapped him on the shoulder.

"That's enough. I want to go home and sleep."

Waver flinched at the sudden voice and touch on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Edmund standing there, looking at all the books he had taken out for research.

"W-What is it, Edmund?" Waver responded with an awkward smile.

"Nothing, it's just rare to see you desperately searching for information in the library."

Edmund didn't ask what kind of information Waver was looking for, thinking it might make him uncomfortable.

"It's nothing... I was just curious about a certain topic."

Waver quickly closed the books and hid them behind him.

Edmund watched him, noticing Waver's desperation to keep the books out of sight. But he didn't play along with his little act.

"I'm not an idiot, Waver. I know those books hold information about the Far Eastern competition… the Holy Grail War."

Edmund stepped toward the other desk and picked up the small box.

"I suppose you already know the basics of the Holy Grail War. I can help you… participate."

Waver was startled—he couldn't believe his best friend had caught him hiding his secret.

After reading the books and understanding what the Holy Grail War was about, he had developed a desire to take part in it. He wanted to prove that a mage with only three generations of lineage could compete on equal footing with renowned sorcerers.

He was convinced. But he hadn't wanted his best friend to find out about this matter. Unfortunately, Edmund was already aware.

For a moment, Waver thought Edmund would try to convince him not to participate. It completely caught him off guard when he instead offered to help.

"How would you help me participate?" Waver was doubtful, glancing at the hand holding the box. He no longer needed Edmund's help.

Inside the box was the relic. Besides, he was planning to borrow money from his friend Melvin—there was no reason to accept Edmund's assistance.

With a smile on his face, Edmund spoke.

"I can provide you with another relic—far better than this one—and assist you with the logistics of your battle."

Edmund gripped the small box more tightly. At this point, it was better to interfere and swap Iskandar for another Servant. Even though Iskandar was already powerful, he was curious to see what would happen if he wasn't part of the war.

Wasting no more time, Edmund left the library with the box in his hands. He didn't give Waver a chance to think. He knew that if Waver hesitated even a little, he would refuse his offer—after all, he wanted to participate without any external help.
