The sound of raindrops played a melancholic symphony against the glass window of Irina's apartment, enveloped by the cold shadows of the city. The night felt like any other since Dmitri's departure, yet it wasn't. There was something different in the air, as if the universe was setting the stage for an inevitable confrontation.
Irina sat on the floor by the window, clutching a warm cup of tea in her hands. Her eyes stared into the void, a storm of pain, longing, and anger raging inside her.
Irina (thinking): "How can I let him return? After everything he's done... How do I let him destroy me again?"
But before she could find an answer, her phone rang suddenly. She picked it up to find a text from an unknown number.
Message: "Meet me at the old bridge tonight. There's something you need to know."
She gripped the phone tightly, her heart racing. That bridge—where they had shared their first moments—was also the place where their dark, twisted story began.
Irina (whispering with a trembling voice): "Dmitri..."
-
At the old bridge, the wind howled fiercely, as if trying to erase the traces of anyone who dared to approach. Irina arrived, wrapped in a heavy coat and hat to shield herself from the cold.
She saw him standing there, in the middle of the bridge. The same black coat, the same mysterious aura concealing endless secrets.
Irina (angrily): "Why did you come back?"
Dmitri (calmly): "Because I never really left."
He moved toward her with slow, deliberate steps, but she stepped back, raising her hand to stop him.
Irina: "Don't come closer. It's over between us."
Dmitri: "You know, Irina, every time I try to leave you, I find myself coming back. It's like you're a curse I can't escape."
His eyes held a mix of pain and enigma, but she no longer trusted him.
Irina (sharply): "You chose to leave. You decided to walk away."
Dmitri: "Because I thought I was protecting you. But I was wrong. Leaving you was the biggest mistake I ever made."
He turned his face away for a moment, then continued:
Dmitri: "Irina, there are things about me you don't know. Things I tried to shield you from. But I can't run anymore. You need to know the truth."
-
Dmitri revealed to Irina that he wasn't just an obsessive lover but was entangled in a complex web of organized crime. He had tried to stay away to protect her from a mysterious enemy who was hunting them both.
Irina (trembling): "So... everything between us was a lie? You were just using me as a cover?"
Dmitri (softly): "No. I was escaping to you. You were the only real thing in my dark world."
-
Irina found herself torn between walking away from him forever or being drawn back into his life filled with secrets. As she stepped closer to demand more answers, a gunshot pierced through the darkness, and Dmitri fell to the ground in front of her, blood pooling around him.
Irina (screaming): "Dmitri!"
