Chapter 1 - Azrael

The human brain works in many ways. Mine made me a psychopathic genius. I was

speaking in complex sentences by the time I was three. By the time I was seven, I was reading novels you would read in high school such as Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Romeo and Juliet. I was practically raising my sister from the time I was nine. I would hear about cases of murders and missing children. Police and detectives couldn't solve them, but I could.

I am nineteen now and I was in college. It was nice, and I wish I could have stayed, but

six months ago, my parents died, and I began to go insane. I was put in a psych ward. It was

helping, and I got better, until I was released.

A few weeks later I got a thought to kill. I started planning who I would kill, and how I

would kill them. Early in the morning, around four o'clock, I went on a walk. I saw a girl that

looked a year or so younger than me. She was sitting outside of the art museum painting. I

walked over to her and introduced myself.

"Hello. My name is Azrael," I held out my hand. "What's your name?"

"My name is Bella," she shook my hand.

"That's a unique name. Does it mean anything?"

"I'm not sure."

"I'll find out and let you know. If I see you again."

"We'll see each other again. I know it."

We sat and spoke for a while as she continued painting. She was painting the sky, and it was the most beautiful sky ever.

Before we knew it, the sun had risen. All my thoughts had disappeared from just speaking to her. I stood up and offered to buy her a coffee.

"Sorry, I don't drink coffee."

"How about tea? Do you like tea? don't want to say goodbye to you yet, Bella."

"Who said you had to say goodbye?"

She moved her hand, and our hands touched. I looked up at her, and then pulled my

hand away. I had butterflies in my stomach. She made me feel so nervous, yet so loved at the same time.

"Sorry."

She smiled at me, but didn't say anything. We sat there awkwardly for a while.

"So, do you want to do something soon? We could go to the arcade, or to the movies. Or both. You can decide though."

"I would love to, Azrael. Why don't we do both? It sounds like fun."

"When are you available for the whole day?"

Suddenly, I got a text about my sister. I could feel my face turn pale. I told Bella I had to leave, but I would hopefully see her soon.

"Why do you have to leave, Azrael?"

"I have somewhere important to be."

"Well, I'll be here around the same time. I promise."

I stood up and started walking to the hospital. Suddenly, Bella ran after me.

"Do you want me to come with you? You seem upset."

"I guess that would be nice. Just promise you won't say anything, okay?"

"Okay. I promise."

After about 45 minutes, we arrived at the hospital.

"I should probably explain. I'm here for my sister. She has a heart condition. Her heart failed yesterday, and I had to rush her here. She had surgery last night leading into this morning, andher doctor just texted me and said that she would be waking up soon."

I didn't let Bella say anything. I was too scared to hear her opinion.

"What about your parents?"

"What?" I looked at her.

"Your parents. Where are they? Shouldn't they be here too?"

I didn't want to tell her, but I didn't want to lie. I walked into the hospital and found my

sister's room. Bella followed behind me.

"Azrael. You didn't answer. Where are your parents?"

I turned sharply to her with a crazy look in my eyes.

"They're dead, okay? They've been dead for six months. I'm the only one here for my sister.

Now fuck off."

She looked stunned. I opened the door to my sister's room. The white lights were low,

the room was organized, pictures we took together were on the walls, and there was a cart with all her pills. I closed the door behind me leaving Bella outside of the room.

"I'm sorry, McKenzie. I don't know if I will be able to take care of you anymore. Everything's

hard right now. I'm doing my best to be here for you, but I just don't know if I can anymore. Your bills are getting so expensive, and with mom and dad gone, we're low on money. Especially since I just got out of the ward. But, when you wake up, I want you to meet someone. Her name's Bella, and she's nice. She's gorgeous as well. She has the most stunning blonde hair,

beautiful light blue eyes, and she has your clothing style."

Suddenly, Bella walked in with tears in her eyes. She held my hands and looked into my

eyes. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but just smiled. A tear dripped from my eye, and she wiped it away.

"I'm sorry, Azrael," she hugged me. "I'm so sorry. You can talk to me whenever."

I hugged her back. We heard a rustle from the bed. I turned to look, and McKenzie

moved.

"McKenzie, you're awake," I pulled away from the hug and walked over to her. "How are you

feeling?"

She told me to come closer, so I leaned down.

"Who's that?" she whispered. "She's very pretty. Why were you hugging?"

"Her name's Bella. She's just a friend."

"She seems like more than a friend."

I beckoned Bella to come over. She walked over and started talking with McKenzie. Suddenly, McKenzie started coughing up blood. Bella ran out of the room and yelled for a doctor. The doctor ran in, but it was too late. McKenzie was gone.
