Chapter 10: The Pit
The pit was quite famous in the training field, known as the dead zone for most recruits, its gray sand composed mainly of suspicious material. The minute Sven landed in that area, there were only two options for him. Either victory or he faced annihilation from whatever the pit had in store for him.
Sven quickly adjusted himself as he landed on the pit. There was no escaping this. The general was here and he wanted to prove his worth, now was the perfect time. Taking a battle stance Sven waited in anticipation for the dangers that lurked in the shadows.
The general took a comfortable position to watch what was about to unfold, the pit was a mysterious place. Bearing different dangers. Now it was still inconclusive as to what the pit had in store for Sven. The recruits also gathered around to watch.
"Behind you!" Blared a voice outside the pit. A gorilla with four arms had materialized behind Sven. Its body was covered in thick gray fur, there was no difference between the gorilla's color and the pit.
The gorilla slammed its fists on Sven's back sending him to the ground immediately. With a roar, the gorilla mounted the ground with his fists. Aiden quickly got up turning to face the gorilla.
"A level seven beast, let's see if we can add it to my companion. This would prove to be a formidable ally." Sven said spitting on the ground. As the spit landed on the ground it began to sizzle burning through the sand. Sven quickly observed this when an idea popped into his head.
To gain a new beast companion one had to defeat a beast without using any companion. Sven was already at level five in his super system, thus giving him an advantage. If he was able to defeat this gorilla without using his companion he would be able to add it to his team of beast companions.
The healer arrived, taking Digs away to the infirmary, after tending to Aiden who was now watching the battle between Sven and the gorilla.
'Quick feet.' Sven thought that would be my advantage. He moved quickly after activating his quick feet skill. In a flash, he was right in front of the gorilla. 'Active power punch.'
The gorilla hit the ground after Sven slammed his punch underneath the gorilla's head. The beast was knocked out cold.
Sven waited for the victory horns to blow but none came.
'Was the battle not over?' he thought. He tried to move his feet but they seemed stuck to the ground. He could feel faint breaths coming from his back onto his shoulder. He turned around to see an almost nine feet tall, black gorilla standing in front of him.
He was not just battling a beast, but a twin beast. He had to defeat both to earn his victory.
"With almost all my strength gone just to defeat the gray beast, now I am faced with another," Sven muttered. "Truly the pit is a place of mysteries." Sven quickly summoned Shinro into the battle forfeiting his hopes of getting a new beast companion.
"Shinro attack!" Sven commanded he was now weak from all the energy he had drained himself from when battling the gray beast. With a swift move, Shinro appeared in front of the gorilla to drop his nut when he was slammed by the palm of the gorilla. Shinro landed on the protective shield of the pit that prevented individuals from running away from a battle before it was over.
'Now that's a wild card.' the general thought keenly, as she observed the pair of twin beasts. The gray beast was now regaining consciousness as its eyelids began to open slowly.
An explosion from the corner of the pit brought the general's attention back. It seemed Shinro's trick had caught up with him. The beast lay on the ground bruised all over.
This was a lost battle for Sven, the black gorilla picked him from his feet slamming his body on the ground. Sven was now badly injured when the victory horns blared. The twin beasts had won the battle. Sven and his companion were thrown out of the pit, as was the custom when an individual lost a battle to a beast.
"Good job hash, twelve." The general said standing above Sven, who lay battered on the floor. "Let's get you some help, we wouldn't want to see you all bruised like this!" She said mocking him as she walked over to where Aiden stood.
"Hash, thirty-two." The general called, with Annie arriving beside Aiden almost immediately.
"Yes! General!"
"Ensure that our recruit gets through orientation before the end of the week, training starts next week so let's get on track." The general said walking away with her team accompanied by the young girl behind her.
"Let's go check out your companion," Annie said as she pulled Aiden along with her leaving the training field. Aiden was lost in thought as he trailed behind Annie. Why did the general look so familiar and the young girl that followed her there was a sense of familiarity between them. Aiden couldn't place a thought on who they were he just wondered.
"We're here." Annie's voice brought him back. They stood in front of a magnificent building. Its exterior designs looked simple but exquisite. The pieces on the walls were like jigsaw puzzles but had bigger shapes compared to the ones used in the market square. A large billboard hung from the top of the display, the academy clinic.
They walked into the clinic. The interior was well designed with a beautiful blue-colored jigsaw piece. And it had the same lights as the academy.
"We're here to get the wolf companion with four eyes," Annie said conversing with the lady behind the counter in the reception area. "Thank you."
Annie led the way with Aiden behind her as they both walked into the hallway of the building. Soon, they arrived at a glass door with a knock before an entry sign hanging in front. Annie knocked on the door before pushing it open. Aiden was lost, 'what was happening there.' he thought.
