Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The shadows of my past.

I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. I was lying on a cold, hard floor, my head throbbing with a dull ache. As I struggled to sit up, a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me to lie back down.

Where was I? How did I get here?

Panic began to set in as I frantically scanned my memories, trying to piece together the events that led me to this place. But my mind was a jumbled mess, filled with fragmented images and disjointed thoughts.

Suddenly, a faint whisper echoed in my mind, sending shivers down my spine. "You'll never escape the shadows of your past, J."

I sat up with a start, my heart racing with fear. Who was that? And what did they mean?

As I struggled to calm my racing thoughts, I noticed a faint light emanating from a small window high above me. I stumbled to my feet, using the wall to support myself as I made my way towards the window.

As I peered out into the darkness, I saw the outline of a familiar building in the distance. It was the school's main building, its towering spires reaching towards the sky like skeletal fingers.

A wave of memories flooded my mind, and I stumbled backwards, gasping for breath. I remembered the stranger in the library, the feeling of being watched, and the eerie whisper in my mind.

It was all coming back to me now. I had been taken by the stranger, brought to this place, and left to rot. But why?

As I turned away from the window, I noticed a small piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up, smoothing out the crumpled surface. It was a note, written in a familiar handwriting.

"Meet me in the old oak tree at midnight. Come alone."

My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the handwriting. It was my father's.

A mix of emotions swirled inside me, from anger and betrayal to hope and desperation. Why had my father written this note? And what did he want from me?

As I stood there, frozen in uncertainty, I heard the sound of footsteps echoing outside my cell. The door creaked open, and a figure loomed in the doorway.

"Time to go, J," the stranger said, his voice dripping with malice. "Your father is waiting for you."

I hesitated, unsure of what to do. But as I looked into the stranger's eyes, I saw something there that made my blood run cold.

It was a glimmer of recognition, a spark of familiarity that made me realize that I knew this person. But from where?

As the stranger reached out to grab me, I made a split-second decision. I would play along, pretend to go with him, and see where it would lead me.

But as I walked out of the cell, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was walking into a trap, one that would change my life forever.

The darkness closed in around me, and I stumbled forward, blindly following the stranger into the unknown.

As we walked, the silence between us grew thicker, like a fog that refused to lift. I tried to break the silence, to ask the stranger questions, but he just ignored me, his eyes fixed on some point ahead.

I was starting to lose hope, to wonder if I would ever find my way out of this nightmare. But then, just as we were approaching the old oak tree, I saw a figure waiting for us in the shadows.

It was my father.

As I saw him, a mix of emotions flooded my mind. I felt anger, betrayal, and hurt, but also a deep-seated desire to reconnect with him, to understand why he had abandoned me.

But as I looked into his eyes, I saw something there that made my heart sink. It was a look of sadness, of regret, and of fear.

"What's going on, Father?" I asked, my voice shaking with emotion.

But before he could answer, the stranger stepped forward, his eyes glinting with malice.

"Time for the truth, J," he said, his voice dripping with venom. "Time for you to learn the secrets of your past."

As he spoke, the darkness seemed to close in around me, like a vice that was slowly tightening its grip. I felt like I was trapped in a living nightmare, with no escape in sight.

And then, just as all hope seemed lost, everything went black.
