Chapter 29 - Encounter by chance

Vanya left Nolan's office, feeling a mix of emotions. She was happy that she had made an effort to connect with him, but she was also disappointed that he hadn't responded in the way she had hoped.

As she walked out of the office building, she was stopped by the two secretaries who had been so rude to her earlier.

"Mrs. Carter, we're so sorry for the way we treated you earlier," one of them said, looking embarrassed. "We had no idea you were Mr. Carter's wife."

Vanya laughed and smiled, not taking their apology to heart. "It's okay, really," she said. "I know you were just doing your job. Don't worry about it."

The secretaries looked relieved and thanked her again before hurrying back to their desks.

Vanya walked out of the building and onto the sidewalk, looking around for a cab. As she waited, she noticed a familiar figure emerging from a luxury shopping mall across the street.

Her heart sank as she saw Emrys, her ex-boyfriend , walking hand in hand with Elena, her evil stepsister. Vanya felt a wave of anxiety wash over her as she watched them laugh and chat together.

Emrys was the man she had married in her first life, the man who had promised to love and cherish her, but had instead betrayed her trust and broken her heart.

Vanya's mind flashed back to the memories of her first life, the memories she had tried so hard to forget. She remembered the pain and the heartache, the feeling of being utterly betrayed and alone.

As she watched Emrys and Elena, Vanya felt a surge of anger and resentment. How could they be so happy, so carefree, when they had caused her so much pain? She swore that she hadn't forgotten her revenge plan...

She quickly looked around for a cab, hoping to escape before they noticed her. But as she turned back to the street, she saw Emrys's eyes lock onto hers, a smirk spreading across his face.

Vanya's heart sank, and she felt a sense of dread wash over her. She knew that this chance encounter was not going to end well.

Emrys and Elena walked towards her, their faces gleaming with malice. "Well, well, well," Emrys said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Look what we have here. The little wife of Nolan Carter."

Vanya felt a surge of anger at his tone, but she tried to keep her cool. "Emrys," she said, her voice neutral. "Elena. What are you doing here?"

Elena smiled, her eyes glinting with malice. "We're just shopping, darling," she said. "We didn't know we'd run into you."

Vanya raised an eyebrow, her skepticism evident. "I'm sure it's just a coincidence," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Emrys chuckled, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Oh, Vanya," he said. "You're still as sharp as ever. I like that about you."

Vanya felt a surge of revulsion at his words, but she tried to keep her cool. "I'm not interested in your games, Emrys," she said, her voice firm. "I'm married now, and I'm happy."

Elena's face fell, her eyes narrowing with resentment. "Oh, yes," she said. "We've heard all about your marriage to Nolan Carter. How convenient for you."

Vanya felt a surge of anger at Elena's tone, but she tried to keep her cool. "I'm not going to engage in a conversation with you, Elena," she said, her voice firm. "I have better things to do."

With that, Vanya turned and walked away, leaving Emrys and Elena staring after her in anger and frustration.

As Vanya waited for a cab, Emrys approached her with a smirk on his face. "Looks like you're not having much luck with the cabs, Vanya," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Why don't I give you a ride?"

Vanya's instincts screamed at her to refuse, but before she could respond, Elena spoke up from behind Emrys. "I don't think that's a good idea, Emrys," she said, her voice laced with concern. "We don't want to get involved with her again."

Emrys turned to Elena and whispered something in her ear. Vanya couldn't quite make out what he was saying, but she saw Elena's expression change from concern to understanding.

Elena nodded slightly, and Emrys turned back to Vanya. "Come on, Vanya," he said, his voice smooth as silk. "We'll give you a ride. It's the least we can do after running into you like this."

Vanya hesitated, unsure of what to do. She didn't trust Emrys or Elena, but she was also tired and frustrated from waiting for a cab. Before she could make a decision, Emrys reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her towards the car.

"Let's go, Vanya," he said, his voice firm but polite. "We don't want to keep you from your destination any longer than necessary."

Vanya tried to shake off Emrys's grip, but he held tight. She looked around for help, but the street was empty, and no one seemed to be paying attention to her struggle.

As Emrys dragged her to the car, Vanya heard him whisper something else to Elena. This time, she caught a few words. "...just a little payback...teach her a lesson...remember what she did to us..."

As Emrys pushed her into the car, Vanya sat down in the front seat, her mind racing with thoughts of escape and survival. She knew she had to be careful, but she was determined to outsmart Emrys and Elena, no matter what it took.
