Chapter 8 - Closer Than Ever

The days blurred together as Bella continued to navigate the tangled web of her new life. It was as if every moment spent in Forks brought her closer to an inevitable confrontation with Rosalie—closer to understanding why fate had chosen her as Rosalie's mate, and why Rosalie seemed determined to avoid her at all costs.

Bella's instincts screamed at her to push forward, to confront the truth that lingered in the back of her mind. But she wasn't ready. She couldn't be ready.

The Cullens were more than just vampires—they were a force, an undeniable part of this strange, new world Bella found herself in. And Rosalie, with her piercing gaze and untouchable beauty, was at the center of it all.

It was a Thursday afternoon when Bella's world tilted on its axis. She was in the middle of gym class, desperately trying to hide her embarrassment as she fumbled through yet another failed attempt to hit the volleyball. The gym echoed with the sound of the ball bouncing off the floor, but Bella barely registered it. Her thoughts were elsewhere—focused on the feeling of Rosalie's presence just on the other side of the gym.

Rosalie wasn't even on the court, but Bella felt her. The pull. The magnetism. It was like an electric current buzzing under her skin. Bella glanced up, and sure enough, Rosalie stood near the bleachers, her gaze directed straight at her.

Bella's heart skipped a beat.

But this time, something was different. Rosalie didn't look away. She didn't turn to her brothers or sisters, didn't take refuge in her own world. She stood there, watching Bella, her expression unreadable.

Bella felt the air tighten around her. For a split second, it was like they were the only two people in the room. The rest of the world fell away, and all Bella could think about was Rosalie. The tension between them crackled in the silence.

Then, without warning, Rosalie turned and walked away, as if nothing had happened.

Bella's breath came in sharp gasps as the world returned to normal. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she couldn't stop the swirling thoughts in her mind. What was that? Was Rosalie finally acknowledging their connection? Or was it something else?

The rest of the day passed in a haze. Bella barely registered her classes, her thoughts consumed by Rosalie's stare. The pull had grown stronger. More insistent.

When the final bell rang, signaling the end of the day, Bella gathered her things and quickly left the building. She wasn't ready to confront Rosalie—not yet—but the ache in her chest was growing unbearable.

She walked to her truck, only to find herself frozen in place as the familiar sleek silver Volvo left the parking. The Cullens.

She watched as the car left from its usual spot, the sound of the engine starting. She couldn't help herself—her gaze immediately snapped to the passenger side, where Rosalie was sitting.

Their eyes locked for a brief, fleeting moment, and for the first time, Bella thought she saw something in Rosalie's eyes—something that wasn't cold or distant, but something almost like… recognition.

Rosalie looked away first. But the brief connection had been enough to send a tremor through Bella's chest.

Was Rosalie finally beginning to feel the pull? Or was Bella just imagining it?

That night, Bella's thoughts continued to race as she sat in her room. The journal was open in front of her, but she didn't immediately pick up her pen. The words were stuck—clinging to her like a heavy fog.

Instead, she simply stared at the paper, feeling the weight of the situation press down on her. She wasn't sure what was real anymore. Was she reading too much into every little interaction? Was she projecting her own feelings onto Rosalie? Or was this bond between them truly something that couldn't be ignored?

Entry 7:

Today felt like a turning point. I can't explain it, but something shifted between Rosalie and me. There's a weight to the way she looks at me now—like she knows something I don't. Like she's aware of the connection between us and she's trying to ignore it.

Maybe she doesn't want to deal with it. Maybe she thinks I'll make things harder for her. But I can't stop thinking about her. The pull is getting stronger, and I don't know how much longer I can keep pretending it doesn't exist.

What if I'm wrong? What if she doesn't feel it?

What if I'm just imagining it all?

Bella sighed and closed the journal, running a hand through her hair. The uncertainty was suffocating, and she had no idea how to move forward. Every time she thought she had a handle on things, everything shifted again.

But one thing was certain: Rosalie was becoming more real in her life with every passing day. Whether she was ready for it or not, this connection couldn't be ignored.

The following morning, Bella approached school with a strange sense of resolve. She still didn't know what was going on with Rosalie, but she couldn't let that stop her from moving forward. Whatever this was, she would have to face it. There was no other choice.

She parked her truck and made her way into the building, feeling the familiar tension in her chest as she entered the hallway.

And there she was. Rosalie.

This time, Rosalie didn't look away.

The blonde's eyes met hers across the crowded hallway, and the silence between them felt heavier than ever. There was no turning back now. Bella had to face whatever was coming next.

And it would begin with Rosalie.
