Chereads / THE INCURSIO BOOK 1 / Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Hybrid

Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Hybrid

Location: Tylne Lake, 17 August 1699 (90 years ago)

Elijah sat by the serene lake, memories of his friend Hakal's demise still fresh in his mind. Their special meeting spot, where Hakal would often visit from the underworld, now felt empty.

Suddenly, the Hell's Gate opened, its ominous energy disrupting the tranquility. Elijah stood, startled. "How is this possible?" he wondered, knowing Hakal was imprisoned.

"Hakal?" Elijah called out, but there was no response.

"I need your help," Hakal's voice echoed, though he remained invisible.

"Where are you?" Elijah shouted, scanning the area.

"I'm just a soul for now," Hakal replied. "A fraction of my powers remains within the Incursio we created. If you kill it, you'll free me. I need you to create a superhuman in the water, regardless of gender. I'll take care of the rest."

The Hell's Gate closed, leaving Elijah perplexed.

"What does he mean?" Elijah thought, struggling to understand Hakal's cryptic instructions.

Here's the revised continuation:

Elijah's Epiphany

Five days passed, and Elijah finally grasped Hakal's cryptic message. The superhuman Hakal desired was a mermaid, a being with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish.

To create such a being, Elijah needed a human and a fish. He set out for Knockhood village, nestled near Tylne Lake.

Location: Tylne - Knockhood Village

As Elijah entered Knockhood, villagers cast curious glances. His reputation as a powerful mage preceded him.

Elijah sought the village elder, explaining his requirements. The elder, wary but respectful, introduced Elijah to a young fisherman named Thorne.

Thorne, strong and adventurous, seemed ideal for the transformation. Elijah also acquired a majestic fish, its scales shimmering in the sunlight.

The Ritual Begins

Elijah led Thorne and the fish to a secluded lake shore. The air was charged with anticipation as Elijah began preparing the ritual site.

"What will happen to me?" Thorne asked, a mix of fear and curiosity.

"You will become something greater," Elijah replied, his eyes locked on the horizon. "A guardian of the deep, a bridge between worlds."

Thorne steeled himself, trusting Elijah's wisdom.

Under the light of the full moon, Elijah led the chosen man and shark to the lake's edge. The air was charged with anticipation.

Elijah began the ritual:

1. Purification: Elijah lit sacred herbs, enveloping the area in a cleansing smoke.

1. Invocation: He called upon ancient powers, invoking the Sea Goddess's blessing.

1. Sacrifice: The shark's fin was severed, its blood mixing with the lake's waters.

1. Transformation: Elijah channeled his magic, infusing the man with the shark's essence.

The man's body began to shift, his limbs merging into a powerful tail. His skin glistened with scales, shimmering in the moonlight.

Elijah declared, "Arise, Morvane, Sea Lord of the Tylne Lake!"

Morvane emerged, his eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity. His voice echoed through the night, "I serve, Elijah."

Elijah stood tall, his Demon King Sword at the ready. Before him, the Incursio 4 assembled, their unique abilities radiating an aura of danger.

Frost, her icy gaze piercing, spoke first. "You're no match for us, Elijah. Surrender now."

Elijah smiled grimly. "Fools."

With a flick of her wrist, Frost summoned a frosty mist, obscuring visibility. Dikstra focused his mind control abilities on Elijah, attempting to break his will.

Rage unleashed a wave of flames, engulfing the battlefield. Sky swooped in, eagle feathers razor-sharp.

Elijah charged forward, Demon King Sword glowing with dark energy. Frost countered with an icy spear, but Elijah dodged effortlessly.

Dikstra attempted to manipulate Elijah's memories, but the Demon King Sword's power protected him.

Rage charged forward, fists blazing with fire. Elijah countered with a powerful slash, sending Rage stumbling back.

Sky swooped in, feathers raking across Elijah's armor. Elijah leapt upward, sword flashing in the sunlight.

In a swift motion, Elijah struck Sky with a precise blow, impaling him.

"NOOO!" Frost screamed.

Sky's body turned to stone, his soul sent to hell.

Dikstra charged forward, enraged. Elijah met him with a powerful slash.

Dikstra's body, too, turned to stone, his soul joining Sky's in hell.

The sudden loss of their comrades shook Rage and Frost.

Shannon charged into the fray, determined to finish the fight.

Rage and Frost exchanged worried glances.

"We need to retreat," Frost urged.

Rage agreed, and together they fled.

As they escaped, Elijah's words echoed through the battlefield:

"You can't escape forever."

Rage ran in super speed with Frost in his arms, he had to heal her and the only way was to find where there was snow.

Frost and Rage tended to their wounds.

Frost spoke, her voice laced with despair. "We've lost Sky and Dikstra. What's the point?"

Rage placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We'll regroup, recharge. We'll avenge our fallen comrades."

Just then, a mysterious figure emerged from the shadows.

"Karma is alive," the figure revealed.

Frost's eyes widened. "What? That's impossible."

The figure continued, "He's being held captive. We need your help to rescue him."

Frost's resolve hardened. "Let's do it. We owe it to Sky and Dikstra."

Rage nodded, determination burning within.

Shannon and Elijah clashed, their powers unleashing a maelstrom of destruction. The air crackled with energy as they exchanged blows.

Shannon lunged forward, his fists flying in a blur of motion. Elijah countered with a swift slash of the Demon King sword, its dark energy slicing through the air.

Shannon dodged, his agility heightened by his remaining Incursio powers. He retaliated with a kick, but Elijah caught his leg mid-air.

Elijah twisted Shannon's limb, sending him stumbling back. Shannon recovered swiftly, unleashing a wave of lightning-fast punches.

Elijah parried each strike with the Demon King sword, its hum growing louder as it absorbed Shannon's attacks.

The battle raged on:

Shannon summoned a tempest of razor-sharp claws, raking across Elijah's armor.

Elijah countered with a blast of dark energy, sending Shannon crashing into the nearby walls.

Shannon rebounded, his eyes blazing yellow. He unleashed a barrage of super-speed punches.

Elijah stumbled back, his sword flashing in desperate defense.

The clash of powers sent shockwaves through the ground:

Cracks spread through the walls as the fighters exchanged blows.

Debris scattered everywhere.

The air reverberated with the force of their battle.

Suddenly, Elijah landed a critical hit, striking Shannon's weakened core.

Shannon stumbled, his vision blurring.

Elijah stood over him, the Demon King sword poised for the finishing blow.

"Now, Shannon... tell me," Elijah said, his voice dripping with triumph. "What have you done with your powers?, is it because of Karma, who you think is dead but is not"

Shannon glared up, defiance burning within. "What my son's alive, I knew he was good strong boy."

Elijah's sword pierced Shannon's chest, his eyes gleaming with triumph. "You should have stayed hidden, Shannon."

Shannon coughed, blood trickling from his lips. "You'll... never... understand."

Elijah leaned in, his voice cold. "Tell me, Shannon. What makes you think Karma can survive my wrath?"

Shannon's smile grew wider. "Karma's... different. He's a hybrid... half Mage, half Incursio."

Elijah's brow furrowed. "Impossible. How?"

Shannon chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Your daughter... Lydia... she didn't tell you, did she?"

Elijah's expression turned icy. "She's not my daughter. She's my sister."

Shannon's laughter grew louder, his body shaking. "You've been lying... to keep her away... but I know the truth."

Elijah's face darkened. "You're lying!"

Shannon's grin faltered, his voice barely above a whisper. "Lydia... and I... we had sparks... back in the day... Karma's our son."

Elijah's eyes widened in horror, his face pale.

Shannon's laughter faded, replaced by a cough. "You'll... kill Karma... but he's your grandson... your own blood."

Elijah's expression twisted in anguish, his grip on the sword tightening.

Shannon's eyes locked onto Elijah's, a hint of satisfaction. "You'll destroy... your own family."

With those words, Shannon's body slumped, his life fading.

Elijah stood frozen, the weight of Shannon's revelation crushing him.

The Demon King sword slipped from his grasp, clattering to the ground.

Elijah's world had shattered.

His pursuit of vengeance had blinded him to the truth. Now, he faced an unbearable choice. Avenge his past or protect his family's future?

... Lydia's New house...

(Today, 1840, Zolith City)

Keon and his mother, Lydia, lived in secrecy, hiding from the Incursio and Arcanum. In their cozy home, Lydia taught Keon magic, but he struggled.

"Come on, at least I'm trying," Keon laughed, attempting to make a flower bloom.

Lydia chuckled, her eyes sparkling. Suddenly, Keon's face contorted in pain.

"Arggh!" he groaned, clutching his head. "Mother, make it stop!"

Glitches flooded Keon's mind, revealing memories connected to Shannon, his father. He saw Shannon's brutal past and Elijah stabbing him with the Demon King Sword.

Lydia rushed to Keon's side, embracing him. The memories ceased.

"Are you okay?" Lydia asked, concern etched on her face.

"I'm fine, mom. Why did I see my evil father, Shannon?" Keon asked, perplexed.

Lydia's expression turned grave. "I don't know, son. What did you see?"

Keon recounted the visions: holding Shannon's neck and Elijah's fatal blow.

Lydia hugged Keon tightly. "Oh, Keon, your father's dead."

"Isn't it a good thing, mom? You said he's evil," Keon questioned.

Lydia's eyes saddened. "It is, but he's still your father."

Keon wondered about a funeral, but Lydia explained the Demon King Sword's dark legend: its victims turn to stone.

"Who is Elijah?" Keon asked.

Lydia's face darkened. "He's my father, but claims to be my brother. He created the Incursio and seeks to destroy them, making the world safer. He'll need your help."

Keon's eyes widened. "Does he want to kill me too, since I'm Incursio like my father?"

Lydia reassured him, "No, son. You're Arcanum, inheriting my magic and eyes." She smiled, petting his hair.

Just then, Luna burst in, gasping, her nose bleeding.

"Mother, something's not right..." Luna whispered, collapsing unconscious.

Lydia's face fell. "Luna, no!"

Keon's eyes filled with worry. "Mother, will she die?"

Lydia was now worried because luna died her mind control on Keon was going to be erased and he'll stop loving her and kill her.

(Back story)

(18 Years Ago, Tylne Lake)

Morvane, the Sea Lord created by Elijah, received a new command.

"Elijah's voice echoed in my mind," Morvane recalled. "Create a child, born of human and mermaid blood. This child will be the vessel for Hakal's return."

Morvane sought out a human, Aria, a kind-hearted villager. He revealed his true form, and she accepted him. Their love blossomed.

Aria became pregnant, and Morvane ensured the child would inherit his mermaid traits. Elijah provided guidance, infusing the unborn child with magic.

Luna was born, a beautiful, aquatic-human hybrid. Morvane and Aria cherished their daughter.

Elijah appeared, his eyes fixed on Luna. "She will be Hakal's vessel, Morvane. Raise her well."

Morvane felt uneasy but trusted Elijah's plan.

As Luna grew, Morvane taught her to control her aquatic powers. Elijah monitored her progress.

"Luna's mind will be the bridge for Hakal's return," Elijah explained. "Her mermaid heritage will anchor his soul."

Aria's concerns deepened. "What will happen to our daughter?"

Elijah reassured her, "Luna will remain herself, yet Hakal's presence will enhance her abilities."

Morvane and Aria accepted their role in Hakal's return, hoping Luna's fate would bring balance to the world.

13 Years Later

Aria's doubts grew as Luna's training intensified. She feared Elijah's true intentions and Hakal's influence.

One fateful night, Aria escaped with Luna, leaving Morvane and Elijah behind.

Aria sought refuge in Tylne, settling near Lydia's residence. She kept a low profile, shielding Luna from Elijah's reach.

Luna, now 13, began exploring her new surroundings. She deepened her friendship with Keon, Lydia's son, and their bond grew strong.

Aria watched with relief as Luna experienced a relatively normal adolescence, free from Elijah's manipulation.

Elijah and Morvane searched tirelessly, but Aria's careful planning kept them at bay.

Lydia, unaware of Aria's past, welcomed her into the community. The two women formed a close friendship.

Keon and Luna's adventures became a daily delight, their laughter echoing through the streets.

As Luna's 14th birthday approached, strange occurrences began. Unexplained headaches plagued Luna it was because she stayed out of water for a long time.

Here's the revised continuation:

Morvane's Intervention

Luna, 13, struggled to adapt to life on land. Her mermaid heritage, suppressed for years, began to surface.

Aria, desperate to help, tried various remedies. But Luna's body rebelled.

Morvane, monitoring from afar, decided to intervene. He appeared to Aria and Luna, his expression grave.

"Luna needs the ocean's healing," Morvane urged. "Thirteen years on land have taken their toll."

Aria hesitated, fearing Morvane's motives. But Luna's suffering convinced her.

Morvane took Luna to the enchanted grotto, submerged beneath the waves. The ocean's energy revitalized her.

Aria watched, tears streaming down her face. She knew this was goodbye.

Back in Tylne, Aria called Lydia, her voice shaking.

"Lydia, I need to tell you something. Luna... she's gone."

Lydia's concern spiked. "What do you mean?"

Aria took a deep breath. "Tell Keon... Luna's dead. It's the only way to keep him safe."

Lydia's silence hung heavy.

"I know, Aria. I'll take care of Keon. But what about you?"

Aria's voice cracked. "I'll be fine. Just keep Keon away from Morvane and Elijah."

Lydia promised, "I will. Be safe, Aria."

The line went dead. Aria vanished, leaving Lydia to break the news to Keon.
