Chapter 17 - Preparation

In the morning, Kaly was waking Darius up, she was naked and put her hands on his head, she taught him how to make potions and a secret magic of the green dragons. He would be able to make any plant he already knew grow. She sent into his mind various plants used in potions and some recipes, he got a headache and felt a bit dizzy.

She used healing magic and he was pain-free. They bathed and then went to the fields, where the villagers of Lucian's land lived and grew wheat.

It was common for nobles to look after tracts of land and produce something, part of which was retained as taxes, some receiving money, others products. It depended on each nobleman's vision.

It was a fair amount to pay to live on the land, in addition to the protection the nobles provided.

Some of the crops were dry and others were not producing much.

Kaly made a little noise, she wanted someone to see them, a lady appeared, she was carrying a basket with some fruit. She stared at Kaly and Darius, he brought his two hands together, then raised his right hand, some clouds formed, then a little rain fell on the crops. But that wasn't all, he used the magic he had learned and little by little the crops began to sprout. They were big wheat plants, much bigger than the ones they grew.

Then he used his magic and made an apple tree appear, it started to grow and Darius asked Kaly to collect an apple for him. She did so, he took a bite and then they both left. The lady ran out and warned the other peasants.

They ran out and only saw a boy in nobleman's clothes come out.

"Will that help?"

"It will, they'll have something to sell and your family won't go broke. Now let's get something to eat."

In a room in the arena, the King was talking to a dragon.

"What you've asked me is unusual, but I'll be able to kill the sorceress your majesty said."

"When you kill her, you'll get a good payment, more than you get from the Emperor."

The dragon bowed and went into the waiting room.

"Don't you think you've taken too much?" The Queen asked.

"She's caused me problems, I don't want her alive anymore."

The first duels weren't that exciting, Kaly was watching in the VIP room, then she got up and went to the arena.

She saw the dragon enter, it had human form, but it wore red clothes and didn't hide its wings, it carried a large staff with a sphere the size of a bowling ball, it seemed to float.

"Kalynrae?" He asked telepathically.

"Yes, I beg you not to say that I'm not human. They think I'm just a noble human from Drakonia."

"I wouldn't be the kind of person to do anything against you."

The narrator was talking about the match, which would be exciting due to Kaly's strength and that of Balthazar, the court mage of the Empire of Drakonia.

"I give up, I don't want to fight," he said as soon as the narrator said the match had started.

The King didn't understand, so he sent the guards to summon the mage to his chambers.

The mage entered the room and said: "I wouldn't be a fool to fight that woman."

"For what reason?" The King asked.

"A few years ago a group of mercenaries from the Kingdom of Verminia managed to break into the Imperial Palace and kidnapped the Princess, there were more than ten S-rank mercenaries. Kaly was just a human apprentice mage, she managed to follow the mercenaries and single-handedly defeat them all, but she lost one of her arms. She was an A-rank adventurer at the time. Today she is one of the few who are SS-rank. But in Drakonia we use a different system from the other Guilds, there she is the only one with SSS-rank."

"Is she that strong?"

"Yes, that's why I'm not going to attack her. The other reason is her friendly relations with the Imperial Family, it's possible that the Emperor himself would start a war because she was hurt for political reasons."

"What do you mean?"

"She's a friend of the First Princess, as well as being a friend of the Empress. Messing with Kalynrae would be like messing with them."

In the VIP lounge, Darius was curious about the race.

"He's just an acquaintance of mine, the reason for quitting isn't very clear, he's always liked to do what he wants."

After a while, she and Darius left the room and went to the Guild, where she wanted to know if she had any artifacts, but there were no jobs accepted.

Then they went to a store called the Blue Moon Apothecary, where Kaly bought the entire stock of potion bottles and two cauldrons. And Darius watched the items being sold, he was curious about some, Kaly explained their uses.

In the garden of the Manor, Kaly asked Darius to prepare the soil, she chose a spot and gave him a hoe. He didn't understand why and she explained that it would help strengthen some muscles. In fact, it was true.

While he was doing that, Kaly went to the forge and managed to generate more mythril coins, she spent a few minutes generating and a few hours preparing the bars, then she went to Darius, the soil was prepared and he was in the mansion eating. She was hungry but went to the village, there she talked to a woman, then asked if she knew anyone who could do a job for Lord Lucian's son, the woman said her daughter was available.

Kaly took her daughter to the mansion. There they ate some sandwiches and the girl sat on a chair that Kaly had placed for her.

Kaly asked Darius to use water magic and wet the plowed land, then use his magic to create medicinal plants, she asked him to create a plant called sage root, it was a rare plant that was used in high healing potions. Normally only nobles or merchants could access it.

He remembered the plant and used the magic. After a few seconds, several plants began to sprout and grow to about 60 centimeters. Kaly approached the girl and held her head with both hands.

"I've just taught you how to use water magic, your job will be to harvest all these plants, then you must use water magic and wash the roots, if you feel tired using magic, stop using it. It means you've run out of mana, so don't force yourself and use water from the mansion. I'm going out, when I come back I'll pay you. All right?"

"All right," the girl said as she got up and began her work.

Kaly went to the mansion and explained to the maids, then she started flying with Darius being carried.

In the vip room, she went to the table with food, and she started eating some sandwiches and cake.

"What were you doing?" Orphelia asked.

"I taught Darius some new spells. We've solved the problems with the crops and we're creating a product for the peasants to sell."

"That's very good, may I ask what the product is?"

"It's still a secret, but I promise you'll be the first to find out when it's ready, if it works, House Lestor will be the most important house in the Kingdom."

Count Frostmourne didn't like hearing that, but Kaly and Lucian didn't mind.

"One question, can we trade with the Adventurers' Guild freely?"

"Yes, they have their own internal trade, so there's no problem."

"That's perfect because if it works out, and we get your approval, I want to produce on a large scale and it would be cheaper to sell to the Guild."

"I'm curious, but I'll wait," said Lucian.

"After this fight Darius and I will go to the blacksmith, I want to know if my armor is ready and order a wand for Darius, it's about time he used one. One question, how many soldiers do you have?"

"I didn't expect that question, I have 100 soldiers, plus the mansion guards and some who stay in the peasant village. But why do you ask?"

"Just curious."

After a few minutes Kaly entered the arena, she waited for a few minutes, her opponent gave up. Then she left and went to the blacksmith's, where she took out some mythril bars.

"I want an order, a few actually."

"What do you want?"

"I want you to make a staff and a mythril wand, the staff I want you to use fire gems and the wand water gems."

"That's quick, I have plenty of gems."

"In addition, I want a hundred swords of mythril to be produced, don't worry, I'll have enough metal, I want them all to be reinforced with gems and guarantee more power to pierce armor."

"That will take a long time and cost a lot of money."

"Since I'll give you all the metal, how about 10 gold coins per sword plus a bar of mythril for every two swords?"

"That's a lot of metal, do you think you have all that?"

"How many bars would be needed for each sword?"

"About 2 bars, considering that I might lose material in the forge, but it will be less. The staff will need at least 4 bars and will be quite heavy. I won't need even one bar for the wand."

She took more bars from her bag of items.

"Here's 260 bars, take what's left, and here's another 1,000 gold coins. Is that enough?"

"Yes, that's even more than necessary. Doing business with you is very good, I hope you'll always come back. I'll start today and try to finish as soon as possible."

"What about my armor?"

"It's ready, wait a minute," the dwarf said as he put the bars away and went into another room. "Here's your armor."

Kaly put it on over her dress, she liked how the armor looked. It was a little loose, but the gem in the armor made it fit her body.

"I like it, I hope I don't have to wear it in combat."

"You don't want to?"

"It's not that I don't want to, I'd rather have armor and never have to go into battle than not have it and have to."

"That makes sense, but let's talk about the staff. Are you sure you want it in one piece from mythril?"

"Yes, I really want a staff like that."

"All right, I'll make your staff as you asked. But I have one question: how did you get so much mythril? I've never seen it in this quantity, nor in bars, they usually give me nuggets."

"We just explored some caves and found it and I decided to make some bars to practice forging."

"I see," he didn't believe it, but he didn't question it.

They said goodbye and returned to the mansion. The girl was sitting under the tree in the garden, the plants were lined up and drying.

"You finished the job quickly. I forgot to ask your name."

"It's Nyme."

"Now I want you to cut, use these scissors, and cut the root about this far," she said as she showed the position to make the cut.

The girl got up and started cutting, there were a lot of plants and she was working very quickly, Kaly liked the way the girl worked.

After a few minutes, all the plants had their roots cut. When Nyme had finished, Kaly took out 5 copper coins, 10 silver and 1 gold. She handed the money into her hand.

"Do you think that was a fair amount for the work?"

"That's a lot of money, really, I can't keep it all."

It was a lot of money, normally a nobleman wouldn't pay more than 2 silver coins for a job like that.

"I don't consider it much. Keep the money, it would be a big disservice."

"All right, I really appreciate it," she said with a big smile on her face.

"Can you come back tomorrow?"

"Yes, I can."

"Come back here in the morning, about two hours before lunchtime."

"All right, I'll be here, Auntie."

"Auntie?"

"I'm sorry if I offended you."

"No, it's fine. You can call me that, it's just that it's been a while since anyone called me that."
