Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Return

I ate two energy bars, and drank an energy drink, every time I began to feel tired so that I wouldn't fall asleep. That's when I heard my door bell ring, I quickly got up wondering what It was. I had no plans of inviting anyone over today, and I hadn't ordered anything in a while, so what could it be?

Once I opened my door, there was a mailman standing in front of me with an envelope, he handed it to me before heading back to his vehicle and driving off. I hadn't noticed until now, but the mailman looked terrified.

I thought it was nothing, so I ignored it, walked back into my house, and was just going to set the envelope down on the counter. That's when I realized it was blank – no name, no address, nor who it was from, just nothing. I hadn't noticed until now but the mail man looked terrified.

I got curious and wondered what it could be, so I began to tear it open cautiously. Upon opening it, my heart dropped, what I read on this piece of paper almost gave me a heart attack. My palms instantly grew sweaty, as well as my entire face.

"You have to stop running."

'Who could've sent me this note, and why did it say what it did. Do they know what is happening to me?'

Once I came back to my senses, I shoved the note into a drawer in the kitchen. I then went to go sit on the couch instead of being in my bed. I was terrified of being in a small room alone now.

I turned on the television to keep me awake. I could feel the energy bars wearing off, so I stood up and began to walk toward the kitchen. That's when I felt like I'd stepped on something that felt like a pebble, I looked down at the floor the check what it was that I had stepped on.

When I looked back up, my body went stiff and my eyes went blank. My whole body began to start sweating, and I couldn't move.

'Why... Why the hell is the happening? did I fall asleep on the couch? Was me getting up to grab an energy bar just an illusion?'

'If not, then why the hell is there a giant egg, covered in red slime in front of me!?!?'

I knew this place, I knew where I was. Anybody would recognize this forest flooded in snow. But why? I was sure I never fell asleep. I don't even remember closing my damn eyes!

Did I fall asleep without realizing? "DAMMIT!!!"

That's when I began to hear barking in the distance. What is it dog? It must've been.

I then realized there was a pattern in this dog's barking, or if it was actually even a dog. The dog would bark three times, before pausing for 5 seconds, after those five seconds were up, the dog would continue to bark three, before repeating the same pattern.

I decided I would rush over to where the barking was coming from, even though it probably wouldn't be a good idea, it was a better one than staying in front of this giant egg.

To my surprise, it was actually a dog barking. I quickly ran over to it, with a joyous expression, and begin to hold it closing my eyes, and feeling relieved I wasn't alone anymore. But when I opened my eyes, there was nothing.

The dog I had been holding, or that I believed I had been holding, was no longer here. In fact, it was like there had never been a dog in the first place.

"Ha... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?!?"

Was there actually never a dog? Had I finally been going crazy from after all of the stress? Tears began to run down my face, I lifted my hand and began to wipe them away. Once I removed them, I was back on my couch, this time I must've been asleep for a few hours, because when I was back, the sun was just about to set.

I quickly got up after confirming I was actually back. I ran over to my room to grab my phone and check the time.

6:32 PM

Tuesday, December 11th.

I had been in that place for over 12 hours? But my time there had felt like only 30 minutes. Does time flow differently there? Is that why it's evening now?

Suddenly, my front doorbell began to ring repeatedly, and there was banging on the door as well. The banging was really loud, so I became really frightened. I was hesitant to open the door, so I walked toward it slowly, checking through the peephole to see who it was that had been banging on my door.

It was a female, but wait, haven't I seen her somewhere recently? That's when it came to me, it was the girl I had saw at the library I went to earlier. But why was she here, at my house.

I quickly opened my door, and that's when she rushed in, she looked really worried and frightened. Her face was dripping with sweat.

"We need to talk." She said in a panicked tone.

"Is that how you enter someone's house."

She looked at me, then she ignored my questioned, she was holding her hands together walking around in circles.

"We need to talk about that report you looked up on your computer earlier."

"What are you—"

Wait a minute, how did she—

"When you left the library, you left the computer on, after I went back inside I noticed and went to go shut it down, that's when I saw what you were looking at on there."

"Okay, but what about it? Did you come all the way to my house, banging on my door, just to tell me I left the libraries computer running?"

She then ignored my question once again, replying with her own.

"I need to know, are you appearing in that place every time you fall asleep as well?"

My eyes widened, how did she know, was it actually because I had left the computer on? But why did she say "as well"?

"I have no Idea what you're talking about"

Once I said that she stopped walking in circles, and began staring at me. She then raised her voice in an upset tone.

"I'm not joking about this, I need to know. This isn't some game, so I want you to be completely honest and tell me, do you appear in that FOREST too when you fall asleep?"
