Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Tale of the Hero of Light and the Demon King

At the very beginning of the universe, the earth was created by God and all life praised him. Born first were the Children of Mana: the elves, the immortal and firstborn. After them were the Children of Stone: the dwarves, the great craftsmen. And then finally the Children of Death: humanity the last and weakest of the world. When the intelligent life forms were born and made their home on the earth's soil, God released a beautiful cry and gave the world the name Ocaleveth the Heavenly Planes.

Years after Ocaleveth was made, God and his heavenly servants abandoned the world, leaving their creations to fend for themselves. Despite losing the guidance of their creator the people of the Heavenly Planes flourished.

The elves secluded themselves from the rest of the world living in enchanted forests along with the spirits of nature. Non-elves would only be able to find the home of the Children of Mana with guidance and would be lost in the ancient wood forever. And due to elves' immortality, they lived for centuries researching the secrets of magic and writing down what they learned in thousands of grimoires. With the power of ancient magic in their corner the elves were designated as the Great Sages of Ocaleveth.

The dwarves lived within the great mountains of Ocaleveth. While not having immortality like the elves their long lifespan gave them the time to fully explore the workings of the earth. While mining through the rocks they would discover mystical gems that no one in the outside world would ever see and use them to create the most majestic magical items that even the elves would envy. After they finished making their prized possessions the dwarves would then sell them to the highest bidder. This started a trade system making the Children of Stone the richest race in the Heavenly Planes.

Then there was humanity. Compared to the other races they were the weakest, and their lifespans were significantly shorter which is why they were dubbed the Children of Death. However, the humans overpopulated the surface and branched out to create many kingdoms in Ocaleveth. The greatest of them which even the elves and dwarves respected was the Kingdom of Eleiweth. It was the capital of humanity and one of the most beautiful cities in the realm. The people who ruled the great kingdom were the Royal Virian Family who were said to be descendants of the first humans. Under their care, Eleiweth prospered for years and formed great relationships with the neighboring kingdoms.

This was known as the Era of Growth where all the people of Ocaleveth were living their best days. But suddenly near the end of autumn, the peaceful age came to a crashing end. A strong earthquake which even broke the continents apart and changed the sea formations occurred from morning to afternoon. What was left behind after the quake was a massive hole in the center of the ocean. The waters flowed into the bottomless hole disappearing into the darkness forever. But that was only the beginning as something exited the hole.

Like a horde of locusts, terrifying creatures that should only exist in nightmares crawled were beings known as demons the fallen angels. Originally these evil lifeforms existed only in a separate dimension known as Hell forever trapped to never see anything but the eternal flame and darkness. But there was one powerful demon who stepped forward to challenge the fate of his race. This demon was named Ira and with his fist alone he punched the ceiling of the underworld and created the massive hole which became the exit for the demon race. As they went to the surface Ira was crowned as the Demon King and led his people on a great conquest to make Ocaleveth theirs.

The first victims of the demons were the elves. In the formation of an intimidating army the nightmarish creatures invaded the elves' forests destroying and burning down their land. Not only that but the demons were able to bypass the magical illusion due to their strange bodies and corrupted souls. They easily found the homes of the elves and reduced them to rubble. Any of the elves who tried to fight back were either killed or taken prisoner. The captured elves would be taken to the Dark Lands, a piece of the earth that the demons had conquered, and the Demon King would torture the Children of Mana from day to night. The screams of the immortal race would fill the air and the lands shook from the vibration of their voices.

As the elves were getting invaded the High-Elves made their escape. The High-Elves are twelve elven lords who are the oldest living elves on the entire planet. They were there when Ocaleveth was still in its creation stage, and they spoke and interacted with God. Knowing that Ira's power was far beyond anything they had ever seen before the High-Elves gathered the grimoires that held the information of the most ancient magic and went out into the lands of humanity.

Once the elves were completely pillaged the demons moved to the Dwarven Mountains. The dwarves became aware of the threat after seeing the smoke from the fires that burned the elvish forest. The smoke had a foul smell of burning wood and blood and it covered the sky making it seem like the world was in eternal night. Seeing the destruction of the most powerful race in Ocaleveth brought fear and doubt to the hearts of the dwarves. Because of that some of the dwarf kingdoms surrounded the demons and offered their services. Those who did not submit held onto their pride and challenged the army of demons. They created the strongest weapons and armor that they could believing that overcome the threat.

However, the power of Ira the Demon King far surpassed any tools the dwarves created. No matter how many of them or how great the fighters were the strongest demon mowed down the Children of Stone like grass. When the battle was over the side of the mountain was dyed red with the blood of the thousands of dwarves that were slain by Ira and his army.

The last functional empire in Ocaleveth during that time was the human kingdoms. After witnessing the elves and dwarves getting annihilated the humans feared for their lives because they knew they were the weakest. The Great King of Eleiweth did not want pointless bloodshed and was ready to give up his crown to save his people. But he was stopped from being surrounded by the High-Elves who escaped from Ira and took refuge in Eleiweth.

They encouraged the king to fight against the Demon King and showed him the powerful spells within the grimoires. Convinced with the power of ancient magic the Great King welcomed the High-Elves to the royal court, making them his close advisors. From that day forward the High-Elves became known as the Council of Chronos.

A month after the Great King of Eleiweth boldly declared war on the demon race, the Council of Chronos used the knowledge of the grimoires to create the Heart of Aurora, a giant crystal made of mana. The power from the crystal protected Eleiweth from the dark magic of the demons and gave the knights of the kingdom unbelievable strength. Seeing the power of the Heart of Aurora, the remaining kingdoms of the other races that cowered in fear of the Demon King joined Eleiweth to form the Great Alliance, a mighty army of humans, elves, and dwarves.

For ten years the Great Alliance and the demon army engaged in a bloody and merciless war. For the first five years, the people of Ocaleveth managed to push back the Creatures of Hell. But the tide of war changed in the next five years when Ira summoned his Demon Generals. They were the toughest and most clever demons in his kingdom and their involvement quickly made the Great Alliance retreat.

Acknowledging that victory was quickly being lost the Council of Chronos went back to the grimoires to create another weapon. After three months the Council of Chronos created the Holy Sword also known as Chronos's Tongue. An extremely powerful and holy blade that can give its wielder godly powers. Such a perfect sword could possibly give the Great Alliance a chance but if there was one fault in the mighty weapon it was that it was too holy. Only a true hero with a pure heart and unimaginable strength could use the sword. To find this hero with a pure heart the Council of Chronos embedded the Holy Sword in the middle of Eleiweth in a white marble podium. It was a challenge to anyone who wanted to try and pull the blade from the stone. If anyone managed to do so, then they would be declared the Hero of Light Savior of Ocaleveth.

Thousands of warriors from every corner and every race came to Eleiweth to try and claim Chronos's Tongue. But no matter how strong or noble they seemed to be none of them managed to even make the blade budge. For two whole years, many people had tried to make the Holy Sword their own, but all had failed. It came to the point that the Council of Chronos started to lose faith, seeing the great blade they created as useless if no one could wield it. But near the end of the second year on a cold night of snowfall, one human walked up to the podium to try the challenge for himself.

This person was a young squire of Eleiweth named Philip. He was born outside of the kingdom growing up in a family of farmers. When reaching the age of eighteen Philip went to the capital to become a knight and fight for the honor of the royal family. Philip was said to be a hardworking young man who always put a hundred and ten percent into everything he did. However, his skills with the sword were not that great and many of the knights believed that he would never make it. But the boy never gave up and continued to do his best.

A few hours before Philip went up to the podium a drunken knight started to make fun of the young squire. He called him incompetent, weak, and a failure to the Kingdom of Eleiweth. Philip refused to let the intoxicated man get to him with his harsh words and declared that he would be a great knight blessed by God. The drunken knight laughed and then offered a challenge to Philip. If he managed to pull the Holy Sword, then he was a true knight.

And that is how the young boy found himself in front of the embedded Chronos's Tongue. While he looked confident on the outside there was no existence of his confidence on the inside. The squire was not haughty enough to believe he was worthy of the Holy Sword, but he was so hot with anger that he quickly agreed to the challenge without thinking. He stood at the very center of the city with all the people from the bar coming out to watch.

Philip took a deep breath, spat on both his palms rubbed them together, and then clasped the helm of the magnificent blade. The boy then put all his strength into a big pull but then something unexpected happened. The squire believed the sword would be heavier than a ten-pound dumbbell but instead to him it was lighter than a feather. Like pulling a stick out of the dirt Philip managed to free Chronos's Tongue releasing the holy light from the blade to lighten the streets of Eleiweth. Everyone who witnessed that event bowed before Philip as if he were some sort of god and sang praises towards him.

And coming down from the castle was the Council of Chronos who were pleased that someone finally managed to claim the Holy Sword. They declared that Philip was the Hero of Light which made the entire kingdom erupt with cheers that could shake the very earth. Then the young boy was taken to the castle to live and train to harness the power of the holy blade.

Four years later Philip was no longer the weak little squire but a fully realized knight. On his first day on the battlefield, the army of the Great Alliance did not even need to pick up their weapons as the Hero of Light fought the demon army by himself. The holy aura that emitted from Philip's body was so strong that it turned the weaker demons into ash. And when the soldiers of the hellish army attacked Philip none of them could even touch him. It was like the Hero of Light was a spirit that no living person could touch. And a simple swing from the Holy Sword Philip was able to cut millions of monsters into bloody pieces in under an hour.

For the entire year, it was Philip alone who pushed the forces of the demon race back. Even the Demon Generals could not defeat him, only ever escaping with their lives. Acknowledging Philip's strength, Ira told his army to stand down as he alone challenged the Hero of Light.

The Demon King only armed with his mighty spear appeared in Eleiweth and challenged Philip to single combat. The Hero of Light accepted, ignoring the warnings of the Council of Chronos. As the two met in the square of the human capital they took out their respective weapons and began their fight. To onlookers, it would seem as if Philip and Ira were standing still and not even moving an inch but in truth, their movements were so fast that no normal pair of eyes could keep up with them. Each strike parry and stab created shockwaves and earthquakes which the entire world felt. It became so dangerous that the Council of Chronos had to evacuate everyone from the city.

Their fight carried on for an entire day, both were reaching exhaustion and heavily injured. While they were evenly matched in power, Philip came to the horrific conclusion that he could not kill Ira. The holy magic did not have a strong effect on the demon and his wounds heal instantly. As for Philip, he could be easily killed because he was a mere human; it did not matter if he wielded the most powerful weapon in the Heavenly Planes. Realizing that his defeat was evident Philip had no choice but to enact his second plan.

Once the Demon King's guard was down Philip activated the sealing spell. Using the Holy Sword as a catalyst, the Hero of Light managed to banish Ira to another dimension. To ensure that the seal would never be opened Philip closed it with the Holy Sword piercing the holy blade into the ground. Thanks to that the only way to undo the seal was to pull the Holy Sword which no one but Philip could do.

With their king gone the demons retreated to the Dark Lands ending the war with the Great Alliance's victory. The elves' forest grew back, the dwarves returned to the mountains and humans began to grow stronger after learning more magic. Philip would go on to create a group in Eleiweth made up of the most powerful knights known as the Holy Knights. Thanks to the Holy Knights and the Council of Chronos who stayed in Eleiweth the Realm of Ocaleveth progressed into the Era of Peace. For thousands of years, the races of the world lived together and did their best to support each other. Many believed that the wonderful peace would last forever…sadly that was not to be.

A thousand years later the Demon King's seal was broken, and the terrifying monster returned to his people and declared war once more. The world was once again thrown into an era of fear and death. And I bet you are probably wondering, how was the seal undone? Well, the reason is because of one person.

And that person was me…
