The person was clad in a dark tailored suit and Mia's gaze were still fixed on the figure, as he strode past the doorway and into the room. Her widened as she took in the details of his appearance. His suit was crisp and clean, not a wrinkle or crease in sight. The fabric seemed to shimmer in the dimly light, and it accentuated the broad shoulders and chiseled physique beneath. His shoes were polished to a high shine and they clicked softly on the floor as he moved, the sound was echoing through the room like a death knell.
As the man walked further into the room, Mia's eyes finally locked onto his face, and she gasped. The complete left half of his face was covered by a sleek, black mask, which seemed to be molded to his features. She could tell the mask was made of a smooth material that looks like it could absorb the light around it, giving it an otherworldly appearance. But the other right half of his face was... ohhh, the right half was breathtakingly beautiful. Chiseled cheekbones, a strong jawline, and piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into her very soul.
Mia's mind reeled as she struggled to process the contrast and meaning behind the mask and the man's stunning features. Who was this person? Why was he wearing a mask? And what did he want with her and her father? A thousand questions swirled through her mind, each one more terrifying than the last.
"BAM"The masked man shut the door behind him and he walked over to the table at the far end of the room, Mai felt a chill ran down her spine as the door loudly closed.
The mask man reaches the table and then turned to face Mia with his dagger gaze. There was something about his eyes, something that seemed to see right through Mia as they held contact. She tried to look away, but her gaze felt like it was trapped and held captive by the masked man's piercing stare.
His eyes seemed to bore into her very soul, searching for something, but Mia had no idea what.
"Please... Please let us go," Mia was trembling as she stammered trying to addressed the masked man. He was now sitting half on top of the table, his long legs stretched out before him and his eyes fixed intently on Mia. The small hanging light danced across his face, giving him more glows to the sharp angles of his features and it made his eyes appear even more piercing.
"HAHAHA"The masked man's response was immediate, and it sent a chill down Mia's spine. A loud, maniac laugh burst forth from his lips, the sound bouncing off the walls of the room. It was a cold, mirthless laugh that was totally devoid of any warmth or humanity. The sound reverberate through every cell in Mia's body, making her crawled skin fill with more fear and unease.
The masked man's laughter seemed to go on forever, the sound growing louder and more intense with each passing moment. Mia's eyes were fixed on him, she felt like she was drowning in the sound, unable to escape the crushing weight of his amusement. Her heart was racing like a marathon.
The crazy laughter finally began to subside then the masked man's eyes locked back onto Mia's, "Let you go, hmm" he chuckled "You're in no position to make demands," he said menacing. The words seemed to drip with malice with each one a cold and calculated blow.
Questions upon questions swirled through Mia's mind, each one a tangled thread in the complex web of her fear. "What do you want from us?" she demanded, trying to keep her voice steady despite the tremors that threatened to overwhelm her. She attempted to act tough, giving the masked man a hard glare, but her eyes betrayed her, welling up with tears that she desperately tried to hold back.
The masked man's response was a slow, deliberate smile. The smile spread across his face like a stain, it looked like the smile joker from the movie does. "Oh sweet girl, what... do... I... want?." The words seemed to ooze from his lips like honey.
Mia felt anger at his words, but it was quickly extinguished by a wave of fear. She glanced over at her father, who was still unconscious, his head lolled to one side. She turned back to the masked man with pleading eyes. The tears she had been holding back began to fall, streaming down her face like rivulets of despair.
"Please," she whispered barely. "Don't hurt us. We'll do whatever you want, just please don't hurt us." The words tumbled out of her, what does he want, was it money, property, work, anything he wants her father was a very rich man and he was generous too.
The masked man's smile grew wider at her words, the most terrifying thing was only half of his face was showing. "Oh sweet girl, I'm not going to hurt you," his voice dripped with sarcasm. "At least, not yet." If Mia was to count how many chill had ran down her spine with only the small amount of time she was here, it would be a million.
"Ahh..." A soft exhale of breath escapes from Mia's lips without her even realizing it. She had been so lost in her own thoughts, her mind was a jumble of fear and uncertainty, but a sound made by the door brought her crashing back to reality. The sudden noise was like a slap in the face, jolting her back to the present moment.
As she refocused, Mia saw a second person entering the room but this new individual was dressed in a white lab coat, their face covered by a surgical mask. The mask was just like any other face mask, a pale blue color. The individual's eyes were hidden behind a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, giving them a bad vibe.
The lab-coated individual was carrying a small, stainless steel cart, upon which rested a series of glass vials filled with a clear, colorless liquid. The vials were arranged in a neat row, each one labeled with a small, white sticker. Mia's heart rate jumped so rapidly that she feared she might be on the verge of a heart attack. Her eyes were fixed on the vials, what the hell she was seeing.
"Time to get the show running," the masked man exclaimed, pushing himself up from the table he had been sitting on. He began to walk across the room. The sound of his footsteps was like relentless beat that seemed to match the pounding of Mia's heart.
Mia's eyes darted back and forth between the masked man and the individual in the lab coat, implications running through her head, what was the purpose of the liquid in the vials? And what did the masked man mean by "the show"?
The masked man walked over to her and his eyes bored down deeply into Mia's very soul, as if he could see the deepest, darkest fears that lurked within her.
"It's time to begin," he's words seemed to be a challenge, a threat, and a promise all rolled into one.
