The room was a blur as I sprinted, my breath ragged in my chest. Damian's footsteps echoed beside me, steady but tense. I didn't need to look to know he was close. I could feel the weight of the danger pressing on us, thick like the humid air around us. The corridor stretched endlessly ahead, its metallic walls looming in every direction. The sound of our shoes against the metal floor was the only thing that filled the silence, punctuated by the faint hum of machinery that seemed to vibrate through the entire building.

I didn't want to think about the chase that was still behind us—the guards were relentless, they always were. We were never going to be safe until we left this place far behind. The only problem was... I didn't know how far that was.

Damian's hand brushed my arm briefly, and I turned my head, catching a glimpse of his strained expression. "Karina," he said, his voice tight. "Are you sure you know where you're going?"
