Under the bright blue sky, a Chatot led a flock of Pidgeys flying overhead.
On the grass below, gentle wild Pokémon like Rattata and Oddish were snoozing, their eyes squinted in the shade of a big tree.
Across from them, under another large tree, a boy who looked around ten years old was staring blankly at these dozing Pokémon, muttering to himself, "Can I really cross over twice?"
That's right, this was Victor's second crossing.
His first time, he ended up in the world of pirates.
There, he joined Vegapunk's tech team and achieved technological feats surpassing those of his counterparts.
Unlike Vegapunk, who had advanced technology but fluctuated between loyalties to the Revolutionary Army and the World Government, Victor's stance was quite firm: pirates and Marines were both no good!
So, after learning all of Vegapunk's technologies, Victor chose to collaborate with Sabo of the Revolutionary Army.
Yes, collaborating with Sabo, not Monkey D. Dragon.
Victor always found that man with sandals tattooed on his face to be unreliable, always sweating when something went wrong.
When his subordinates got caught and friends were betrayed, he just did nothing!
In the end, Victor led his Seraphim army, joining forces with Sabo and the four commanders of the Revolutionary Army, to launch an all-out war against the World Government, led by the Celestial Dragons.
The scale of the war was as grand as the Paramount War.
When he finally reached the Empty Throne and stood before that bizarre figure named Im, who neither looked male nor female, he unwittingly fell into a trap.
Sigh, if only he had gone to the Pokémon world earlier and learned how to defend against direct attacks from trainers, he wouldn't have faced such a fate.
But what Victor never expected was that after crossing into the pirate world and dying once, he could cross over again!
This time, into the world of Pokémon.
"Goo goo goo~"
Just as Victor was reminiscing about the glorious past, a loud rumble from his stomach interrupted him.
"Speaking of which… I've been over here for two days without eating anything."
Victor patted his belly.
"Nado nado~"
Seemingly having heard Victor's stomach complain, an Oddish happily used Leaf Blade to accurately slice down the berries from the tree above.
Several Pecha Berries dropped precisely in front of Victor.
"Hmm? Are these for me?"
Victor's eyes brightened.
"Nado nado~"
Oddish nodded cheerfully.
"Alright, alright~ what a good little one."
Victor walked over, picked up Oddish, and gave it a few gentle rubs.
After asking which city was closest, Victor picked up the Pecha Berries and waved goodbye to the Oddishes.
"What a beautiful place, like an utopia; it's so much better than that hellish world from my past."
While chewing on a Pecha Berry, Victor complained as he made his way toward the city.
In the pirate-themed fanfiction he'd read in his previous life, the protagonist either became a pirate or joined the Marines after crossing over.
But to Victor, neither side was anything good.
Though there were some exceptions, most were simply rotten.
…
After walking for nearly an hour, Victor finally reached this coastal town.
"First, let me find an adult to ask what this place is."
Victor thought to himself.
He needed to clarify which region he was in.
If it turned out to be Kanto, he planned to seek out Professor Oak, who was not Ash's dad but was even better.
With the tech skills he had learned in the pirate world, becoming an assistant to that old man who loved instant noodles would be a piece of cake.
"Hmm, she'll do."
Victor noticed an old lady by the roadside ahead.
"Are you really... my Eevee?"
However, when Victor approached, he heard the tremulous, panicked voice of the elderly woman.
Upon getting closer, he saw that at her feet was an Umbreon.
It must have been her Pokémon.
Yet the old trainer, hands clasped before her, had her legs trembling in fear, looking as though she was about to fall over at any moment.
The Umbreon across from her looked equally distressed.
Seeing its beloved owner react this way for the first time, it felt as though its world was collapsing.
The old woman stammered, "This black skin... and red eyes... it's too... too ominous... too terrifying!"
Umbreon's pupils dilated, and its small body trembled as if electrocuted.
"Tsk tsk... It seems this world isn't as wonderful as I'd imagined."
Victor thought to himself.
Just when the Umbreon forced itself to step forward to comfort its owner, the elderly woman instinctively stepped back.
"Don't, don't come near me!"
That step left an irretrievable rift between her and Umbreon.
"Don't... don't come closer... don't come closer..."
The old woman turned to flee, but Victor stepped in front of her first.
"Hey, lady, haven't you ever seen an Umbreon before? It's just one of Eevee's evolved forms; there's no need to be so afraid, right? Isn't black pretty cool?"
Victor vaguely remembered going through a lot of trouble in his earlier life just to evolve Eevee into Umbreon.
"W-What Umbreon? Just, just let me go! If you like it, take it!"
As she spoke, the old woman rushed past Victor.
Not a trace of hesitation.
"Is this for real? You don't even know about Dark-type Umbreon?"
Victor turned his head to look at the old woman's retreating figure, then glanced back at the Umbreon, its gaze downcast and looking like a corpse.
"Um… little black, how about you come with me for now? I'll research how to devolve you back into an Eevee later, and then you can return to your owner, okay?"
Victor said after thinking it over.
Umbreon's face, which had been filled with grief, turned into shock in an instant.
Surely this human child can't be crazy?
I've never heard of the Eevee species evolving and then being able to devolve back!
Little did Umbreon know that after crossing over, Victor's obsession as a scientist had begun to boil.
He could hardly wait to research the differences in powers between Pokémon and the Devil Fruits.
Evolution, naturally, was one of his projects.
"But during this period, you'll need to help find food, okay? I'm not like that Monkey D. Luffy; I won't be just working for free."
Victor reminded it.
In his previous life, the reason he allied with Sabo to attack the World Government wasn't purely out of a sense of justice.
More importantly, it was because the World Government had set their sights on him after they suspected Vegapunk.
Though Victor thought of himself as not much of a good person, he at least considered himself human.
He didn't want to get tangled up with those idiots.
If that's the case, then it's better to take the initiative.
Thus, the collaborative attack on the Holy Land Mariejois happened.
"Bu~"
After a while, Umbreon finally managed to respond.
Now that it was homeless, did it really have any other choice?
