Terradin Forest, Hensberg Kingdom, Northern Continent.
The figure of Fenrir, the "God-Slaying Wolf," slowly emerged from the darkness of the night. His pitch-black fur was streaked with a blood-red glow that illuminated the darkness. His glowing crimson eyes exuded both cruelty and majesty at the same time.
With his presence, the night air in the forest suddenly turned cold—a bone-chilling cold that penetrated deep into my body. The atmosphere had become suffocatingly ominous.
Right now, I was terrified. Not just me—Lilith was trembling in fear as well, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her body stood frozen as she watched the figure slowly approach us.
Along with Lilith's trembling body, the crazed Swordmaster who had been approaching the girl named Elena also came to a halt. Perhaps his puppet-like body had stopped moving because his master himself was now paralyzed, frozen in fear before Fenrir.
What was going to happen? Were we all about to be slaughtered by Fenrir?
Aaaauuuuuuhhhhh!
Fenrir let out another loud howl. The ground trembled violently. No! Perhaps the entire land of Terradin Forest was shaking under its force.
"Elena... Elena..."
With my broken body, I struggled to crawl toward her, calling her name in desperation. Hoping that she would open her eyes and escape.
Before us was no longer a mere Demon, Elf, or even an S-Rank monster. He was a being who could be placed on the same level as a god—the mythical wolf who had slain the "God of Wisdom" with his fangs and claws.
There was no chance for us to fight back... whether Demon, Human, or Elf. None of us were a match for this legendary beast.
Fenrir was a calamity to both earth and sky alike.
Then, Fenrir leaped through the air, slicing through it with his massive body. The atmosphere roared violently due to his sheer speed. In the blink of an eye, he stood directly between Elena and the crazed Swordmaster. With a swift swing of his right front leg, he sent the man's body flying far away from Elena. The man crashed into several trees, toppling them in his wake.
A moment later, the wolf turned his gaze toward the direwolf lying helplessly in front of Elena. His eyes seemed to reflect sorrow as he looked upon the fallen creature. Then, his gaze shifted briefly to Elena before turning toward where Lilith stood.
"A… What is this? Why are you here, Old Fenrir? Are you trying to interfere with me? Listen, I am one of the Demon Generals. If you dare to harm me, the entire Demon Army will annihilate every wolf in this forest. We will burn this place to the ground… Hahahahaha!"
Had Lilith gone mad? Why was she speaking to this beast?
Even if Fenrir was one of the few mythical creatures in this world, speaking to a savage beast like that was outright foolish.
Could it be that Fenrir possessed another form—one known only to the Demon Race?
If I recalled my father's words…
"Aella... do you know? The monsters known as mythical beasts are, in truth, beings tasked with maintaining the world's balance. They are the embodiment of both calamity and peace, the very pillars that uphold harmony between heaven and earth."
Could what Father said be true? That these mythical beasts were existences akin to gods themselves? The ones who maintained the balance between the world above and below?
"Domine tenebrarum, exaudi vocem meam, et da ignem nigrum, ut incendas adversarios meos in pulverem."
(O Lord of Darkness, hear my voice and grant me black fire, so I may burn my enemies to ashes.)
Lilith's incantation rang out.
"Ignis Tenebrarum!"
For the first time in this battle, Lilith fully unleashed the spell Darkness Flame.
Dozens of enormous black fireballs filled the night sky. The flames were so dark that they swallowed the light of the moon itself.
Moments later, all of the fireballs began to descend.
This might be the end of everything.
The flames would consume everything—the forest, the girl named Elena, the crazed Swordmaster who had been struck down by Fenrir, and even myself.
Perhaps even Fenrir would be reduced to ash under Lilith's overwhelming magic.
But…
Aaaauuuhhhhhh!
Fenrir howled once more into the sky.
With that single cry, his voice reverberated through the air, creating an immense pressure—instantly extinguishing every last fireball without a trace.
Lilith took a step back in fear.
Her entire body trembled in terror.
Now, I fully understood.
Fenrir was not an opponent we could fight.
We were like mere earthworms facing the might of a noble, ruthless, and overwhelmingly powerful wolf.
"Deus tenebrarum, iacta in me catenas tuas. Ut inimicum ante me catenam facias."
(O God of Darkness, cast your chains upon me. Grant me the power to bind my enemy before me.)
As Fenrir began to approach, Lilith's expression turned even more frantic. She started chanting another spell.
"Don't come any closer, you wretched old wolf! Vincula Tenebrarum!"
At Lilith's command, Darkness Chains emerged from the ground, wrapping around Fenrir's body.
These chains were much larger and sturdier than the ones Lilith had used against me before. Countless black chains quickly coiled around Fenrir, completely binding him.
But with a single movement of his body, Fenrir shattered them all instantly.
Aaaauuuuhhhhh!
Fenrir let out another fierce howl.
And in an instant, his body was right in front of Lilith.
Then, with a swift and brutal swing of his right foreleg, he struck Lilith's body with tremendous force.
"Aaarrrrggggghhhhh!"
Lilith's agonized scream echoed through the night sky of Terradin Forest.
Her body was sent flying—far harder than the crazed Swordmaster had been when Fenrir struck him.
When Lilith finally crashed into a massive tree, Fenrir had already closed the distance once more.
He let out another piercing howl directly in front of her.
The force of his voice sent shockwaves through the trees, sending them flying backward.
And along with them, Lilith's body was once again hurled into the air.
As she remained suspended, Fenrir lunged, slamming her even higher with a devastating blow.
Then, as her helpless body soared toward the sky—
Fenrir leaped up, caught her in his jaws, and flung her mercilessly to the ground.
Even I could hear the deafening impact of her body crashing against the earth.
That night, the skies above Terradin Forest were filled with Lilith's screams of agony.
Suddenly, a piercing screech echoed across the sky.
The deafening sound shook the night, reverberating through the heavens. And from above, a massive black dragon descended. The dragon swooped down on Fenrir from behind, as if trying to stop him from approaching Lilith's fallen body.
A furious growl rumbled from Fenrir's throat.
The newly arrived dragon was one of the mythical beasts of the Southern Continent. He was known as the Ruler of the Night Sky—Morgoth. And upon his back stood one of the Demon Army's generals, my eternal enemy, the man I despised most in this world.
He was the man who destroyed my kingdom.
The one who slaughtered my people and my dearest friends.
The one who murdered my family.
I still remembered that moment as if it had just happened. His sword pierced through my father's body—the 12th King of Nefetari—right before my very eyes.
That man was none other than The Dragon Ravager, Dragnel.
Dragnel's gaze fell upon my battered body.
Our eyes met.
Every nerve in my body tensed.
And before I even realized it—without knowing where the strength came from—I managed to let out a loud scream.
"Dragnel!"
He stared at me intently. His piercing gaze seemed to recognize me, as if he was recalling exactly who this fallen elf woman before him truly was.
Aaauuuuuuuhhhhhh!
Grrrraaaaaaahhhh!
Suddenly, Fenrir and Morgoth let out deafening howls and growls at each other.
Then, Dragnel dismounted from Morgoth's back and lifted Lilith's barely breathing body into his arms. Without a word, he returned to the dragon's back and soared into the sky.
Higher and higher they climbed, disappearing into the darkness of the Terradin night.
Dragnel had come here only to rescue Lilith.
Fenrir remained still for a long while, his gaze fixed upon their fading silhouettes.
Then, he slowly turned his head—toward us. Toward me and Elena.
In an instant, my entire body trembled.
I gripped the dirt beneath my shaking hands, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty.
This time… it was our turn.
What would Fenrir do to us?
But—
He only glanced at me briefly before stepping toward Elena.
"No… don't… don't take her… please… please, let her live… I beg you, don't do this…"
I mumbled weakly as I struggled to crawl, dragging my broken body across the ground.
Tears streamed down my face, growing heavier with every step the massive wolf took toward Elena's unconscious form.
And then—
Fenrir stood right before her.
But…
He merely pressed the tip of his nose gently against her body.
After that, he turned toward the dying direwolf that had saved her life. He grasped the direwolf's limp body, then vanished into the darkness of the night.
Why?
Had Fenrir come here only to save us?
As I gazed at Elena in relief, my vision grew dim.
Somewhere in the distance, I thought I could hear the sound of hurried footsteps approaching.
"Miss… are you alright? Miss? Hey… what about the girl over there?"
"She's safe. It looks like her body is undergoing healing magic and is already in recovery."
"Hey! The swordsman here is in critical condition! Quick, administer first aid!"
Perhaps the Great Fairy, Uriel, had not abandoned us after all.
And slowly—
I lost consciousness.
