Chapter 1 - Part 1 Human amongst monsters

' Many, many years ago, monsters and humans lived in harmony, prosperous times until, by fate's misfortune, war breaks out between the two races causing chaos and death without discrimination. Blood was shed for days, which extended to weeks and even months....In the end, the humans manage to banish the monsters and, with the help of a strong spell, keep them locked inside a mountain, some consider this a victory, but what is the point? In a war there are no winners, thousands of innocent lives have been lost for causes which even time has forgotten, and now (...) 'Said reading continues for at least an hour ...

Our protagonist turns out to be a 17-year-old boy named Meils, a teenager with brown hair, a leather waistcoat with a worn blue shirt, long trousers of the same colour as his waistcoat, finishing with a travelling backpack and a pair of glasses. He was standing on the highest point of Mount Ebott on an errand, but to get started he had to find the entrance to the 'Underground' first.

As it is a huge place this task ends up costing more than expected, finally before him expands an immense emptiness from which a thousand and one stories have been created.- How am I supposed to get down? From here I can't even see the bottom ...He then puts forward some hypotheses which he writes down in a notebook but, at the end of the day, he does not feel convinced by any of them, which generates a certain frustration at being stuck without even having started his expedition.- Maybe I should have brought a hang glider, even a parachute would have done the trick, I didn't expect the entrance to be so ... deep. The boy goes back and forth along the edge of the structure, trying to find a much more feasible spot to climb down until, by a stroke of fate, one of the rocks on which he is stepping collapses without even giving him time to move away or react. He can't scream, he can't understand what has just happened, a simple mistake has him falling into the void, a horrible sensation that could well be the product of a nightmare, no matter how hard he tries to move, he knows that destiny will not change, an empty life, a death that no one will know about, a story that no one will tell.... ?He doesn't know exactly how much time has passed, but Meils manages to wake up, and the most incredible thing, he seems to be unharmed, but that's impossible, isn't it?- What the fuck just happened? He wonders trembling, still remembering perfectly the sensation of falling into the unknown, he looks around taking advantage of a faint light that seems to come from up ahead as he slowly tries to get to his feet.- Am I alive... But how... ?His vision clears up, his heart starts beating again at a normal rhythm and he soon knows that this is not a dream, whether it is a miracle or a work of fate, he is alive. As he looks down, he sees a cluster of golden flowers that arouse his interest enormously, since it is totally impossible that these flowers have stopped their fall without a scratch, at the end of the day, it makes no sense to give the matter any more thought. With a slight sigh, Meils takes out his notebook and decides to write down the first details of that curious place, the interior of that mountain turns out to be notoriously worked, carved stones, pillars of an unusual material, which makes him understand that someone must live here, otherwise he could not explain the presence of that bed of golden flowers so well cared for. At a slow pace the boy enters what seems to be some ancient ruins, torches on the walls provide him with natural light which allows him to admire in detail the structure that surrounds him, only a few minutes later his walk is interrupted abruptly, something captures his attention enormously since, as twisted as it may seem, he has noticed how a flower, similar to the ones at the entrance, is waiting for him...No, it's not an illusion, it has a pair of small eyes, looking straight into the soul, and a gentle smile that the boy can't and won't trust. Before he can think of anything, the flower dives into the ground for a few moments only to emerge right in front of Meils, who can only take a step back out of pure instinct, disturbed by what he is witnessing.- Howdy!!! You look pretty confused, mate, and no wonder, right now that little head of yours must be flooded with a thousand and one different thoughts but, the advice I can give you, is to take a deep breath and listen to me.If this thing can see and move at will, it's no surprise that it also has the ability to speak, however, there is something in its words that Meils cannot ignore, something that generates a distrust like an animal seeking to avoid its predator but... What other options does it have? There is a mission to accomplish, so he closes his eyes for a moment and seeks to dispel his doubts, at least for now.- Well, I'm fine... What are you supposed to be? What is this place?Blessed is the flower that shows a small smile at the normal doubts of the human newcomer.- I guess there are some things you just can't let go of, huh? I'm Flowey, Flowey the flower. As for your second question, let me inform you, you have arrived in the Underground, and to be more specific, you are in the first region, known as 'The Ruins'.- Flowey, I understand, it's a... pleasure, I guess. He adds with a clear discomfort which doesn't seem to bother his strange companion at all.- You don't have to pretend, you know? It's a lot of information in a very short time, we'll have time to get to know each other better.- I guess so. You said a few moments ago that this is the 'First' sector of the underground, didn't you? That means there's a lot more to see...- Exactly! Each region has its own aesthetics, structure and inhabitants, which in this case, would be different types of monsters.- Monsters... Do you mean that the writings and legends... ?Flowey instantly notices the concern forming on the boy's face, he doesn't want to scare him but, there are things that are best made clear from the start.- Real, yes.The atmosphere is filled with a notorious melancholy and, once again, the flower with golden petals is forced to get the human out of his doubts.- Listen to me, my friend. I'll be straight with you, I don't know exactly what kind of stories you may have heard, or what other humans may have written in books but, there are a few things I can confirm for you right now ...Meils nods his head, a signal for the thing to continue its dialogue.- Over the centuries, several humans, all younger than you, have fallen to the underground, and if my memory serves me correctly, you are the sixth. I know that your survival instinct must be to look for a way out, which exists, but unfortunately, none of those who have fallen before you managed to reach it alive.Flowey gives the boy a few seconds to accept this harsh reality, it is the best thing for him, there is no point in giving false hope.- Asgore, the king of the monsters, has in his possession the souls of those five humans, those souls are necessary to break the magical barrier that keeps the monsters locked up in this place. I know it sounds heartbreaking, but believe me, it is better that you find out now, no matter what kind of person you are, that bastard has not forgiven anyone, and I assure you, that unless you really want to defend yourself, he will not hesitate to finish you, much less now that he only needs two more souls.- Tragic, isn't it? The only way to get out of this place alive, is to get to New home, the capital of the underground, once there, you will have to enter the king's castle and FORCE him to let you go because the barrier is connected to that great structure. Talking to him will do no good, unlike the other monsters, your only option is to fight him, otherwise, I assure you, you will end up like the rest.At last the young human finally speaks again, his voice is slightly shaky, which is understandable due to the gloomy information that has just reached his ears. Fighting? Monsters? Putting his life over someone else's is something he would NEVER do but, knowing that other humans have died at the hands of this being makes him... angry?- Flowey...He mentions in a cold tone, still with some fear in his words.- Why are you telling me this, what's in it for you telling me about that bastard? At that little show of determination, Flowey smiles, he can't help but feel a certain nostalgia at the sight of those eyes imbued with anger.- Very simple!!! Whatever some monsters may think, what the king is doing has no justification whatsoever. What's the point of spilling the blood of children who weren't even born at the time of the war? Even supposing that some of them might be 'violent' does not justify such a massacre of the innocents of your race, besides ...Before finishing the sentence, Meils notices for the first time how his opponent shows a genuine expression, nostalgia perhaps? Possibly, the first time he doesn't feel double-edged or uncomfortable in front of him.- It's stupid, but seeing you brings back some nostalgia, and it's strange coming from me, maybe something about your face or clothing brings back not so disgusting memories. What I mean is, I have no desire to see you die stupidly down here, besides, someone should teach that horned hairball the meaning of justice.Having said this, the flower extends one of its roots, emulating the typical handshake between companions, a symbol that the human would not have accepted in the first place, but now knows that he has no reason to avoid Flowey, if what he says turns out to be true, perhaps there is a way to get out of here alive, and avenge those who have died unjustly. After closing his eyes for a few moments, the boy extends his hand and accepts the friendly greeting of the stranger, thus forming his first bond in this new world, where between death and fear, hope is born.- My name is Meils, I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, mate. The friendly side of the boy makes the flower look away as he smiles in a mocking tone, he doesn't seem to be the kind of entity that enjoys opening up to others.- Oh come on, are you really going to start treating me with such kindness? You really are an interesting human. I'll do what I can to keep you alive, it's going to be a long journey, but as long as we don't get separated, we should have a chance with you, as long as you're ready for this 'adventure'!- I just introduced myself, don't get any funny ideas! And thank you. Anyway, you don't have to worry about it, I'm not a fragile person, as long as there's a slight chance, it means there's still hope.- Well, since you need more than just brute strength to avoid the possible dangers that may come your way, don't worry, when the time comes I'll give you some advice, in the meantime, we'd better get moving, every second counts and there are a thousand things to see here... Let's go!Thus, Meils and Flowey join forces to begin this story, a story never told about an unknown world, as they enter the depths of the ruins, a place quite neat despite its name, with long corridors and rooms full of growing vegetation, it is not long before they hear footsteps nearby, footsteps which the flower clearly recognises very easily, it seems that the time has come for a little battle tutorial. But this will be continued in the next chapter.
