Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Wolf Trouble

Holding the rock tight, Alchemy made the first move, lunging at one of the wolves with incredible agility. Far more than what she was expecting, and because of that, she ended up flying straight past the wolf, but not before a hit on his side.

It wasn't much, barely a scrape in the grand scheme of things, but the damage was damage. Alchemy certainly wasn't going to be picky.

Alchemy looked at herself with surprise for a moment as she clenched her free fist.

"Prospects are significantly stronger than normal members of their species. Right. That explains why I'm light..." She nodded, seeing a way out of this bleak situation.

It was simply flavor text in the game. Prospects were considered mutants bound by a destiny to become rulers, making them stronger and faster than ordinary people. It was never relevant when fighting wars against other players who had that same benefit and massive armies.

'I need to end this as quickly as possible.' Alchemy hummed as the infuriated wolf retaliated in much the same way she attacked.

With a slight boost in confidence, Alchemy stood her ground and slammed the hefty rock she had into the wolf's head, readily sending it to the ground. That victory was short-lived; however, nearly right afterward, the second wolf rammed into her, trying to tackle her to the ground.

Shifting her weight, she ended up falling on the floor much harder than she would've initially but managed to escape being pinned by the wolf, kicking it with all her might before groaning.

"Oww." She quietly complained to herself, already huffing for air.

As she pushed herself to her feet once more, the final wolf was already coming for her, this one swiping at her with his claws, which she failed to block, leaving a deep gash in the clothing around her stomach area.

Just barely keeping her balance, her eyes followed the wolf as adrenaline numbed the pain, bringing down her mighty rock of justice straight on the third and final wolf's cranium.

"GRRRRRrrllll!!!"

As the message appeared in her field of vision, she held her stomach before throwing herself to the side. She couldn't see the wolf, but she knew that the first wolf, which she barely managed to deal damage to, would attack soon.

Unfortunately, the first wolf managed to find his target anyway. Whether it was by their fast reflexes or predicting her movement, Alchemy simply had to know, as she ended up in the exact situation she wanted to avoid.

Pinned to the ground with a wolf trying to eat her eyeballs! She even lost her mighty rock. Curses.

The Gale Wolf continued to growl furiously as she tried to hold his mouth open. Saliva dripped from the wolf's mouth as it slowly inched closer to Alchemy.

'He's overpowering me… One hit. One solid is all I need!' Alchemy screamed inwardly, trying her best to muffle the sounds that came out of her due to pain. The last thing she needed was more wolves to come attack if the entire pack was around.

The angle was awkward, but she bent her knee and sent it straight up into the beast's underbelly to get it off of her. Before it could recover, she gave it two more concussive blows to the jaw before grabbing back her rock and smashing until she saw confirmation.

A surge of energy rushed through Alchemy's body, but it didn't do much for her in the moment. Maybe her body felt a bit lighter. She couldn't tell; her only thought was finishing off the final wolf, which, luckily for her, was still down from her initial strike to the head.

Wobbling to her feet, Alchemy let out a few more deep breaths. She still held her stomach with her bloodied hands. Despite how bad it seemed in the moment, the pain was not that bad. At the very least, compared to the pain she felt before choosing to become a Prospect.

"God… Ow…" She couldn't even form a proper sentence as she used her free arm to wipe away some tears that escaped her eyes.

Looking around, she saw the opening where this mess had started, along with her throne. During her initial sprint, she ended up making it quite far.

As she grew closer to the throne, the pain and adrenaline began to subside, even if one was much slower than the other.

'The throne heals me, right? I hope it'll stop this bleeding…' She mused inwardly to herself, referring to the attack she took to the stomach.

As she looked down at it, however, she was surprised to see that it wasn't bleeding at all!

There was blood, sure, but the way it was plastered around… It wasn't hers.

Feeling around her stomach made the pain linger for longer and hurt more, but it further confirmed it. She wasn't bleeding at all despite the massive wound in her stomach.

"Did leveling up make the bleeding stop? But the wound is still clearly there..."

As she pondered those words, she finally reached her throne of stone, sat on it, and immediately felt relief and clarity before being barraged by system notifications.
