Pablo returned home more confused than when he entered, it's not that he didn't expect Thomas to recognize him sooner or later, it was that it had been too soon, that vermin wasn't telling him something, and something important.
The only thing he could think of was that somehow he had been warned that he would arrive, that limited the question to someone with a strong gift of prophecy, a Justicar or the offspring of one of them. But why? And who had it been?
Alecto seemed like the obvious choice, but that didn't explain how or why Alecto had told an information dealer. This wasn't the safest option, maybe even the stupidest.
On the other hand, it comforted him to have that bridge from his old life to this one, although he had really expected the traitor to be the chosen one, he was surprised to learn that it was Carmina who had betrayed him and only out of spite.
