"Hey! What happened? You left the café without saying goodbye, is everything alright?" Sade spoke to Dunsin on the phone.
"Oh, about that…I'm sorry. It's just that you really seemed caught up and I didn't want to interfere or anything. Besides, I kinda figured you may have forgotten you went there with me." He explained.
Gasping, she realized her fault.
"Omg! I should apologize to you, it's all my fault, Dunsin. I shouldn't have done that to you. Will you forgive me?"
"It's really nothing, Eva." He chuckled, "I totally understand, you had to do what you had to do and I'm sure Sade needed you." He teased.
"She sure did." Eva laughed, happy to have her peace with him.
"So…Will you be at Keeston's tonight?" He asked her.
"Yeah, what about you?"
"I don't know…maybe I would if I had company…"
Eva laughed.
"Are you asking me to be your date tonight?"
"Yes, Eva, that's exactly what I'm saying." He admitted.
Thinking about it and smiling, she finally agreed to his request. Excited, they made arrangements on how they'd meet and head over to the venue together.
"Is Sade coming with you?"
"No, she needs some timeout."
"Alright then, I guess it's just the two of us." He said, "See you later, babe."
"Yeah, you too. Bye now…" She said and hung up.
She rose up from the bed and went straight to the wardrobe, assessing the clothes…hoping to find a befitting outfit. She pulled out a mini tube top with green sequins, and a pair of long black flared pants to match.
What shoes am I wearing with these?
She picked up a pair of white block heels from the shoe rack.
"Yeah, that's more like it!" She said proudly.
Finally done with her selections, she decided to use the two hours left to get her hair, manicure, pedicure, and makeup done at her favorite salon on campus.
"Wow! You're really going all out tonight, aren't you?" Sade commented at her friend's zealous preparation.
"You bet I am! Unlike some people who would prefer to stay home all night, missing out on the fun…" Eva giggled.
"I'm paying no attention to you, babe. Now, get out!" Sade said, laughing while tossing her slippers at Eva as she tried to leave…
…
At the salon, Eva's hair, manicure and pedicure were completed, and she sat on a chair, awaiting the makeup artist to take a turn on her. It was a busy day, as other female students going for the party went there as well; therefore occupying the staff available.
While she turned to her side, she sighted Mabel coming into the salon.
Urgh! Here she comes…
Mabel caught her eyes, and suddenly started acting weird. It seemed like she was avoiding Eva.
That's new…
Eva thought as she watched Mabel turn her back on her, making it obvious she wanted no contact with her.
"Ma'am, kindly join the young lady there, and wait your turn. We're all very busy right now." One of the attendants said to Mabel.
Hesitantly, she walked up toward Eva's direction, and sat on a chair in close proximity to Eva. It felt awkward to be acting like strangers, but Eva kinda liked it. At least she didn't have to deal with "psycho Mabel" anymore.
They both sat there quietly without exchanging pleasantries with each other.
What am I doing here? Mabel thought to herself.
What could she possibly be thinking about? Eva, on the other hand, thought.
They continued to have mental interactions with themselves, until one of them had a turn.
Ah! Thank goodness!
Eva described the kind of look she was going for. Emphasizing on how subtle she wanted her makeup to be, the artist assured her that she understood her needs perfectly well.
When it was finally over, she left the salon in a hurry to go get dressed up because she only had a few minutes…
Knock. Knock. Knock. knock…
"Tch. Why don't they ring the doorbell? I mean it's literally just there!" Sade said out loud, irritated by the continuous knocking on the door…
"Oh! It's you…come in." She offered politely.
"Thank you! Is Eva in?"
"Yeah, she'll be down shortly."
Speak of the devil…Eva joined them in the sitting room, looking all glammed up and pretty…ready to party!
"Wow! Eva…You look…uhm…"
"Sexy? Beautiful? Breathtaking? Amazing?…" Eva cut in, smiling adoringly.
"I was gonna say you look incredibly smashing, but you're definitely all that too." He smiled.
All set and ready, and certainly feeling good about the fun ahead, they head out to the Keeston's to have the best time of their lives…
The Keeston's compound was loud with banging music, people were in the pool— indulging in swimming contests, drinking, dancing— while others were inside the building getting wasted already, engaging in hand wrestling, board games and doing all sorts of unimaginable stuff.
Right then, Sade spotted Benjamin. He was standing all alone at a corner, drinking a can of beer.
"Do you mind?" She turned to Dunsin, trying to excuse herself, "I just want to say hi to him and I'll be back."
"Sure, go ahead." He said, but she was already leaving.
"Heyyy Eva. What are you doing here?" Benjamin said with a look of surprise on his face.
"Nooo…what are you doing here?" She chuckled.
"Oh well, you know, I just thought I'd come have one last fun before ending the semester." He said, touching her cheek.
Dunsin watched on as they familiarized with each other, and that only made him uncomfortable.
"So uhm, do you care to dance?"
"Uhm, no, I can't. I, uh…came here with someone." She said, pointing toward Dunsin's direction.
Dunsin waved at them.
"Oh come on, just one dance, please! I promise it'll be quick. I'm sure he'll be okay with it."
She felt torn between accepting his request and upsetting Dunsin, or clearly refusing him and keeping the peace with Dunsin.
"Listen Benjamin, as much as I'd love to dance with you, I'd rather not." She said softly, "I don't want to upset my date. You wouldn't like that either. See you around…" She winked at him and returned to where Dunsin was standing.
"I'm sorry I took so long."
"Nahh, it's okay." He said, grabbing her by the waist and engaging her in a smooch. While he did that, he kept staring at Benjamin to make him jealous, with Eva oblivious to what was going on.
