Elijah's face, initially frozen, softened as he blinked and nodded to First Lieutenant Verayth.
"Alright then, I guess you guys will need me out there anyway".
Elijah would have very much liked to stay out of the whole noble sacrifice spiel, but it was a fact that he wanted to create a place for himself in the continent of monsters, and to do that, he had to make sure the humans don't burn it to the ground.
So Elijah agreed to join the suicide squad, with his Demon Lord Revival System, accomplishing impossible task shouldn't be an issue.
First Lieutenant Verayth smiled ecstatically, Elijah had proven himself to he a competent strategies, his rare talent was something any team would require.
"Come on then, let me introduce you to the rest of the team". Verayth said as she went ahead.
Elijah was still frozen in place, not from the fact that he will be enlisting in a losing army, not even the fact that he was enlisting in a special unit called a suicide squad.
Elijah was frozen from Verayth's jubilant smile, it was radiant like a summer sun, her smile easily brought life to this miasma layered continent, even the sound of the birds chirping became more joyful.
it revolted Elijah, he actually felt like punching the smile off her privileged face, if only she wasn't stronger than he was.
Elijah followed behind the Lieutenant, until they reached a tent, the tent was armed with rifles and IEDs.
The IEDs were actually just explosive substance tied into a trigger attached metal container, it couldn't be more simplistic.
Elijah even felt unsafe within the tent, but he couldn't just leave, the tent was already occupied by a number of individuals, two of which he already recognises.
A blonde young girl with hazel eyes and overly large bust, wearing your typical military uniform but with a green scarf around her neck to compliment the green patches on her brown military uniform.
Another familiar person was a boy with literally flaming hair, he was short and around the same age as the blonde girl with massive breasts.
"Taelia...". Elijah said almost ecstaticly, normally the Demon wouldn't be this faced just by seeing someone, but Taelia felt like the closest thing he had to an aquintence in this new world.
"... I didn't think you would be joining this new unit".
Taelia smiled cheerfully, though the weariness of the battlefield still lingered in her eyes.
"Elijah, Oh good... You're still alive".
Elijah was slightly taken aback.
"What do you mean? why wouldn't I be?".
Taelia tilted her head inquisitively, and folded her arms, but her breasts where in the way, so she had her arms around her stomach area instead of her chest.
"The injured men brought back tales of the Demon Elijah. How you were a menace on the battlefield, they say you have eyes behind your back and can see the future... they also say you kill without batting an eye and your skin turned black because you have been cursed by the souls of your fallen enemies... When I didn't see you in the tent of the injured, I assumed your body was rotting somewhere on the battlefield".
Taelia said in a single breath before once more asking, but this time casually.
"So what has been going on with you exactly?".
Elijah coughed lightly, his raised brow fallen as he said with shifty eyes.
"Well, some of what you said plus the fact that I came back to life every time I died, one of the many perks of being the Demon I guess".
A brief moment of confusion passed before Taelia's face lit up with a radiant smile, her eyes sparkled with the kind of thrill that only Elijah could ignite.
"What are the other perks". Taelia couldn't help but ask in between suppressed giggles.
"Let me see... Being a menace on the battlefield, having eyes at the back of my head and being able to see the future and ofcourse keeping the resentful souls of my enemies at bay".
Taelia couldn't hold it in anymore and burst into an uncontrollable frenzy, her laughter was infectious, even the squad members waiting with her couldn't help a chuckle or two.
Naturally, Taelia and the other recruits didn't believe a word Elijah said, some of the other guys simply thought he said all that just to make Taelia laugh, she is a beautiful lady afterall.
Verayth put her smile away and stepped forward.
"Alright everyone, allow me to do the introductions... This here is Private First Class Elijah and Private Taelia Wave, Elijah will not only act as your typical infrantry, but also as our strategist whenever the plan goes haywire. And Taelia here is a very skilled medic, not to mention her bloodline ability can be useful to us in case of unforseen circumstances.
First Lieutenant Verayth turned away from them and looked towards an old man with pure white hair, well maybe not hair, cause on his head was dozens of white snakes.
The man reminded Elijah of a handsome male version of medusa, and much older, the man was also holding a long thin sword.
The man's eyes where closed as if what was happening had nothing to do with him.
He later opened his eyes and nodded at everyone as First Lieutenant Verayth began to introduce him to the team.
"Private First Class, Vornak Ziek... He might be old, but he can wield a sword better than anyone on the continent of Erevos, He came here from the capital city after hearing our reinforcement where delayed, He might have come alone, but his presence is comparable to an entire squad".
First Lieutenant Verayth moved on.
"Over here is, Corporal Ovarth... He use to be part of my original team, but I figured we will need his expertise, his a talented infantry and we didn't get many volunteers".
Verayth didn't mention the fact that Corporal Ovarth insisted on joining the suicide squad, he even personally submitted his application to the Major.
Corporal Ovarth stood up and greeted everyone, except Elijah, Elijah wasn't sure if Ovarth did it intentionally, but it was clear that Ovarth somehow held a grudge against him.
But Elijah wasn't an unreasonable guy, he wouldn't pay it any heed without first confirming Ovarth's hostility.
