Lady Eleanor woke to the sound of groaning. The fire in the cave still crackled weakly, and the storm outside showed no signs of letting up. She sat up, her heart racing as she looked around. Prince Adrian lay near the entrance, his figure illuminated by the flickering light. His groans filled the air, and he was trembling visibly.
Eleanor's smile of relief at seeing him alive quickly faded. She scrambled to his side and pressed a hand to his forehead, flinching at the heat. "Adrian," she whispered, shaking him gently. "Adrian, wake up!"
He responded with a weak groan, barely opening his eyes before slipping back into unconsciousness.
"Not now, please," she muttered to herself, her mind racing. Their clothes, still damp from the rain, were unusable. She tried warming her hands by the fire and pressing them to his forehead, but it wasn't enough.
