Chapter 1 - The Well of Wishes

The festival was in full swing. Colorful lights twinkled in the evening sky, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of cotton candy and fried snacks. Laughter echoed as people danced, played games, and mingled beneath the bright lanterns. It was the kind of evening that felt like time was standing still—perfect, carefree, and full of possibility.

But for Kiel, it felt like something was off.

He wandered aimlessly through the crowd, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. His friends had invited him to join the fun, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was waiting for him just beyond the laughter and lights. He paused by the old wishing well, an ancient structure near the edge of the festival grounds. It had always been a mystery—something people used for fun but never really took seriously. Everyone had heard the stories about the well granting wishes if you threw a coin in and made a sincere wish. But Kiel wasn't the type to believe in such things. He wasn't sure why he stood there now, staring into the depths of the stone well.

A sudden voice broke his thoughts.

"Hey, Kiel! What are you doing here?"

Kiel turned to see his group of friends—Mina, Iris, Claire, and Leo—approaching with grins on their faces. Mina bounced over to him first, her usual enthusiasm radiating from her. She had a knack for making anything seem exciting.

"Come on, the night's just getting started!" she said, looping her arm through his. "I bet you're just sulking because you don't know what to do first."

Kiel rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. "I'm not sulking, Mina. I'm just thinking."

Iris, ever the practical one, raised an eyebrow. "About what? The way people still believe in this old well?"

Kiel shrugged. "I guess. It's just… strange. We're all out here having fun, but something feels off."

Leo, who had been silently observing from the back, stepped forward. "You always think too much, Kiel. This is just a festival. It's supposed to be fun."

Claire nodded, giving him a reassuring smile. "Besides, it's not like anything magical is going to happen here. Right?"

But as she said that, a strange sensation filled the air—a subtle pulse, like an electric charge in the atmosphere. Kiel felt it before anyone else, a tingling at the back of his neck, but when he glanced around, no one else seemed to notice.

The pulse grew stronger for a moment before fading, and the group continued talking, but Kiel's attention was drawn back to the well.

Without really thinking, he stepped closer to the edge, peering into the darkness below. There was nothing unusual about it. Just the shadowed water and the old stone. But then, a glimmer of light caught his eye—something small, almost glowing, resting at the bottom of the well.

"Hey, what's that?" Kiel murmured, crouching down. He reached into his pocket for a coin, preparing to toss it in like everyone else did, but his hand froze.

The light at the bottom of the well seemed to pulse in time with his heartbeat, drawing him in. Something about it felt… important.

"Hey, Kiel, are you alright?" Iris asked, noticing him staring at the well.

Before he could respond, something unexpected happened. The glow in the well intensified, and without warning, a small object shot up from the depths, spinning and sparkling like a shooting star. It landed right in front of Kiel, coming to a stop at his feet.

"Uh… what the heck?" Mina exclaimed, stepping back.

The object was a bracelet, its silver band etched with intricate patterns, and at its center, five small stones, each one a different color. It looked almost… alive.

Kiel reached down and hesitated for a moment. Something about the bracelet felt familiar, like it had been waiting for him. He picked it up, feeling an odd warmth spread through his fingers.

"What is that?" Claire asked, her voice filled with awe.

"I don't know," Kiel said, his voice barely a whisper as he stared at the bracelet in his hand.

But as soon as his fingers brushed the cool surface, the bracelet seemed to come alive, glowing faintly, and without warning, it snapped around his wrist, locking into place.

Kiel blinked, pulling at it in surprise, but the bracelet wouldn't budge. It was as if it had chosen him.

"Did it… just attach itself to you?" Iris asked, her voice tight with confusion.

"I didn't do anything," Kiel replied, his voice a mix of disbelief and growing unease. "It just—"

Before he could finish, a sudden pulse of energy shot through the bracelet. It sent a shockwave through Kiel's body, and the others jumped back, startled. The ground beneath them seemed to shake for a split second.

Then, as quickly as it had happened, it was over. The pulse faded, leaving an eerie silence in its wake.

"Okay, now I'm freaked out," Leo muttered, glancing at the bracelet on Kiel's wrist. "What was that?"

"I don't know," Kiel said again, his voice shaky as he stared at the bracelet. "But whatever it is… it feels like it's part of something bigger. Something we're not ready for."

The wind seemed to pick up around them, swirling, as if it were responding to the strange energy in the air. The rest of the group exchanged uncertain looks, the weight of the moment sinking in.

"What now?" Mina asked, her usual cheerfulness replaced by unease.

Iris crossed her arms, her expression serious. "I think we need to figure out what this is. And fast."

But before anyone could respond, a voice—soft and clear—echoed in their minds.

"Five hearts, one destiny. The past shall bind you, the future will test you. Unravel the threads, or be bound forever."

Everyone froze, looking at each other in stunned silence.

"What… was that?" Claire asked, her voice trembling.

"I heard it too," Kiel said, his hand instinctively going to the bracelet. "I think… it's trying to tell us something."

The group stood there, the festival noises fading away as they tried to comprehend what had just happened. There was no turning back now. Something had changed, and their lives—whether they were ready or not—were about to take a very different turn.
