Chapter 4 - Medusae [2]

"Captain!"

Vaku looked towards the approaching scout, his eyes narrowing as he saw the panic on the latters eyes.

He immediately stood up from his seating position, picking up his makeshift spear as he headed for the scout.

"What's wrong?"

"It's the outsiders, Captain, I saw them speaking to Noemie.

Vaku's eyes widened and his fist around his spear tightened, pushing back all other colours and leaving behind a deep shade of blue.

"What is Noemie doing here?" Vaku asked with gritted teeth. The scout took a step back, his teeth clattering in terror. The rest of the small group lowered their heads, unable to answer Vaku.

Vaku gritted his teeth before taking a deep breath to calm himself down. He knew that they couldn't have done anything, it was Noemie after all. Not even Vaku had sensed that the latter was following them.

"Let's go."

He sighed as he began to walk away, heading towards the direction the scout came from.

"Are we going to approach the outsiders, captain?" One of the scouts asked.

"Ferelith will have our heads if anything should happen to that troublesome little brat." Vaku sighed.

'I hope they are not hostiles. And if they are….' Vaku's eyes narrowed as his speed suddenly increased, his body moving through the air with amazing speed.

"What's our next move captain?" Nerissa asked.

What was our next move? I haven't really considered that. In all honesty, I was banking on the fact that that creature wasn't hostile and he was intelligent.

Intelligence gave the possibility of communication and that was what I was hoping for. As much as I hate to admit, the voice is right.

I needed to consider other options other than killing anything that came to sight. If there are intelligent creatures on the planet and they aren't hostile, it's better to try to form some sort of alliance with them.

"He obviously came from somewhere, and he could communicate intelligently. There's a possibility that there's a camp somewhere around here, we must try to make alliances if possible."

"What exactly did it say?" Faris asked.

I glanced at him, I really wanted to give him a good beating for questioning me too many times, but we were all tired so I indulged him.

"It said not to go any further. Something about a swamp and us dying."

Faris became silent. I could tell that he was against communicating with these aliens and I understood his point of view. Faris' family was killed by aliens, those from out dimension anyway.

And ever since, he has gated aliens, even those that are seemingly non-hostile.

Hearing that his life may have potentially been saved by an alien made him uncomfortable.

"This is a different space, Faris, and we need to survive."

"We've got company." Nerissa warned.

About two hundred meters away from us, a group of six approached. They all looked like the juvenile… Medusae that approached us, with pearly skin and jellyfish like parts.

But there were a few differences, the first of which was their skin, the juvenile had a myriad of colours spread all over while these ones only had two to three colours at most.

And secondly was their size. Most of them shared the same range of size except one in particular that stood out. It's skin was a deep shade of silver and blue and he was as tall as I was with way more muscles than my lean frame.

My eyes narrowed, I only just noticed that they were floating through the air. Although barely a foot from the ground, this space made them capable of moving very fluidly.

The moment our eyes locked, the bulky Medusae raised its hand, stopping its team. I did the same immediately, not wanting to be seen as hostile by the other party.

"There are seven of them, one with a spear, the rest with daggers. No armor that I can take note of." Nerissa spoke quickly and fluently.

Even when the team was still complete, she was the scout and a close combat specialist while Faris was the tech guy and a ranger.

But currently, the latter was a bit useless. Our techs weren't working—we had to put away our guns—and there was no makeshift range weapon for him to use.

"Let's proceed with caution, we don't—"

Barely halfway through my speech, the bulky Medusae alien thing suddenly vanished. No, he didn't vanish like that juvenile did, instead, he appeared to have…. Leapt!

I shrugged off my backpack, unsheathing a second blade as I took a step forward,

Boom~~

There was a slight fog that rose into the sky but I didn't let it deter me. I immediately struck out, my blade aiming for where I assumed the creature's head would be.

I don't want to seem hostile, but I sure as hell won't wait for him to land an attack first. The intent was enough!

Swoosh~

I heard a sharp noise and I reacted instantly, twisting my ankle and bending my body to dodge what I assumed was a sweep of the opponent's spear.

I immediately pivoted on my heels, using the sweep and the estimated length of the spear I saw earlier to gauge how close to its body I was as I struck out again.

Clang~

This time, I managed to land an attack but I felt my hand immediately go numb. The tremor ran through my body as I rolled on the ground before pushing myself off the floor and striking out again.

Fwoosh~

There was silence and the air was tense. The rest of the Medusae had arrived close and just their presence alone was enough to keep Nerissa and Faris in check.

"You are good…" the bulky Medusae spoke, its voice deep and gruff. Its black beady eyes stared into mine, radiating an intense will to fight before it suddenly vanished.

If the brief exchange didn't tell me that he was an experienced warrior then his presence did.

I was about to speak when I suddenly paused…

Latin?

I couldn't tell before when the juvenile spoke but I could tell now, these people were speaking Latin!

I gave Nerissa and Faris a quick glance,

"We are not hostiles." I spoke slowly at first. It has been a while since I've had to speak Latin, hence, it would take a moment for me to get the hang of it.

"What do you want then?"
