Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Demonstrating the Restoration Spell

When it came to light magic, George thought it was worth learning as well. Light magic had a degree of restraint against dark magic and, in modern society, could easily leave a good impression.

In a typical modern society, people were heavily influenced by appearances. A mage who cast dark, sinister, and gory magic—even if doing good—would instinctively be perceived as a villain. But if you wield angelic wings and spread warm, radiant light, even committing questionable acts might be seen as righteous.

Even if it wasn't for light magic's power, George felt the magical, glamorous effects alone justified learning it. Moreover, light magic was anything but weak; otherwise, it wouldn't be one of Makarov's primary fields of expertise. However, it lacked the visceral impact of giant magic, was harder to master, and had a slower rate of improvement. It was said that light magic required significant skill to become truly potent, making it more of a late-bloomer.

On the other hand, George thought that many types of magic could be substituted with spells from Harry Potter's world, achieving nearly similar results. Those could be left for future study when time allowed.

After successfully quelling the ruckus, Guild Master Makarov returned to his normal size and leaped onto a table at the front of the hall. Holding a thick stack of documents, he wore a stern expression and declared:

"You lot have caused trouble again! Look at these reports from the Council—nothing but complaints! Because of you, I'm scolded by the Council every day!"

Hearing this, the mages collectively showed guilty expressions.

But what they didn't expect was Makarov suddenly conjuring a flame in his hand, burning all the complaint documents into ashes.

"Forget about the Council and let them eat dirt!"

The Fairy Tail mages erupted into cheers, as Makarov delivered an inspiring speech. George summed it up in just a few points:

1. Don't worry.

2. Keep doing what you've always done.

3. Ignore the Council.

4. If there's any trouble, your Guild Master will handle it.

5. Your only responsibility is to complete missions and improve your magic.

George was thoroughly impressed by Makarov's leadership. His past life experiences told him that an incompetent leader wasn't as bad as one who couldn't take responsibility. Makarov, with his power and willingness to shield his members, was undoubtedly an excellent leader. Following such a figure would allow George to focus on strengthening himself.

Once the excitement died down, everyone sat on the floor to continue drinking. Meanwhile, George and the blonde girl were brought to Makarov by Mirajane.

"You're Lucy, right? Since Natsu recommended you, there's no problem. Congratulations, you're now a mage of Fairy Tail!"

Makarov gestured to Mirajane, who picked up a special magical seal and stamped a Fairy Tail emblem onto the back of Lucy's hand. Lucy was so ecstatic that she jumped in place.

"I finally have a Fairy Tail emblem! I'm officially a mage of Fairy Tail!"

Being one of the kingdom's most powerful mage guilds, Fairy Tail didn't accept just anyone. Otherwise, smaller guilds would have no members left. Beyond strength, Fairy Tail demanded high moral standards. Any mage with a record of misconduct was outright rejected.

Then Makarov turned to George with a kind expression.

"And you must be George. Let me ask you two questions. First, why do you want to join Fairy Tail?

Second, besides flight magic, what other magic are you proficient in?"

As a responsible Guild Master, Makarov had to be cautious when it came to new recruits. Fairy Tail, nearing its centennial, had completed countless missions and offended many dark mages and guilds. If an infiltrator caused trouble, it could spell disaster.

For Makarov, the recruits' magical abilities mattered less than their character and background. Fairy Tail was founded on the principle of mutual trust and support among its members.

George raised two of his paw-like fingers.

"First, I was born in a forest, never knew my parents, and have never seen another of my kind. I heard that Fairy Tail has a cat like me, so I wanted to meet them."

"Aye, sir! Happy doesn't know his parents either. Natsu found and raised me!"

Happy raised a paw, chiming in. He was also meeting another of his kind for the first time, though he had never felt the need to seek out his family, having grown up in the warm embrace of Fairy Tail.

"Well, it seems my first goal won't be achievable," George said calmly before continuing.

"Second, I want to learn more magic. Fairy Tail is the kingdom's best mage guild, so here I am."

Being honest, George decided to state his real intentions. The first reason was his feline self's original goal; the second was his own. After all, he had no ill intentions toward Fairy Tail—his aim to study more magic was not a negative.

"Haha, you're right. We are the kingdom's best mage guild!"

Makarov burst into laughter and downed a massive mug of ale. With his decades of experience and light magic's ability to sense hostility, he was convinced George posed no threat.

"Now, about my magic," George said, flapping his wings and flying over to a shattered table. He waved his paw and cast a spell: "Reparo!"

Instantly, the broken table seemed to rewind through time, returning to its pristine condition. George repeated the spell dozens of times, fixing every bit of damage in the guild hall. By the end, the hall looked as good as it had when George first arrived.
