Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

**Vael**

I scrambled off at great pace as my presence had been noticed, I could hear Sorina ask who it was but I didn't want my cover blown. This, I'm sure, is definitely not something they'd like others to know.

I moved rapidly in search of you, a human lover knew the ancient pact which was such a posing threat, they had no idea I knew their secret affair wasn't so secret.

It seems to me that I didn't come early enough to hear the full story so I couldn't get the name of the miserable wolf who would be in love with a mere human, a powerless mortal.

Although I had found out two years ago on a cold night in a full moon when my wolf was on the verge of breaking free, I had gone out to the mountain to stay clear of the humans in case it went mad and was looking for where to stick its claws.

There I saw a wolf in what looked like a passionate kiss with a human. At first, it didn't seem clear, a scene like this hadn't occurred to me before.

until I moved closer and was able to recognize who it was - Sorina's granddaughter, Elena. "Human", I scowled, almost jumping in her direction, but wasn't ready to fight my fellow wolf.

I had more pressing matters than sticking around and waiting for it to play out, my wolf was already impatient as it seems.

There and then, my hatred towards her grew.

I had always found her annoying due to her curiosity, always sticking her nose where it doesn't belong and calling it some stupid research.

I couldn't help but think what kind of lies she had concocted to make a wolf fall into her webs, she bewitched him with her cunning human nature perhaps still making her research using love as bait to get to a wolf.

The wolf that is involved in this must be found and eliminated as our tradition holds it then, the female would be done justice to too.

"Is this all the shit I'll say to the alpha?" I muttered to myself, am sure he would rip me apart for wasting his time considering his hot temper.

"what was that which you said I won't regret hearing" he said to me, facing forward to nothing, the expression on his face was not that bad, I wonder what was amusing him after such a disaster he has done with those terrorists, anyways I should appreciate his happy look because he hardly looks this way after a bloody fight.

"You really fought well back there…I mean you always do" I said awkwardly, knowing that I never did commend anyone for fighting food, we are not humans for God's sake and we're stronger than humans, why would I praise his fight.

His expression changed a bit as he mumbles something and spits out saliva mixed with blood on the floor. "Yeah, it wasn't much of a fight," he said fluently, "If I hadn't shown up they would have spoiled something," he added.

I was wondering if he's got memory loss or didn't he remember that I wanted to tell him something critical, how can he be carried away by one single question that I asked him.

Anyways, it's to my advantage as I have to hide what I wanted to say, an information which is not even so sure for me, I would put myself in trouble spitting that out to him though, I think I am free now and hope he won't remember.

"You look a bit messy, you should clean up" I said, handing him a piece of linen to clean himself, "where are the other members of the pack?" he said, collecting the linen I was handing over to him, it was one of my finest linen I've ever had.

"I was with them at the hilltop before coming down here," I said. He turned immediately, staring at me profusely, I must have said something wrong. "you're aware that you're supposed to be with them for the fact that I wasn't around," he said, turning to the water, dipping the linen in it and cleaning himself.

"I thought you'd be in danger and…" still trying to spit out the remaining words he interrupted, "I've always told you I am safe alone, if I ever needed you I would tell you" he said, still facing the water in front of him. He looks up to the sunset, "It's a very nice view here you know" he said, admiring the sky while still cleaning himself.

"I've never seen you admire the sky before, you only admired the moon and always longed for the full moon to appear" I said staring at the sunset with him, even though I didn't see anything so beautiful looking at the sunset, I'd only admired the moon, the full moon precisely, it's a day I eat as much as I want to.

"You've not seen me admire it doesn't mean I do not admire it when I have time to" he said squeezing the water out of the linen I gave to him. "Take back your linen" he muttered, throwing the linen at my direction.

"show some appreciation haha" I said laughing. I rushed me and held me by my shirt "You should be grateful your alpha used your God forsaken linen to clean up blood, a fight you would have fought" he said smirking as he pulled out his own linen to clean the remaining water drop on his arm.

How should I feel, he's had that linen with him all this while and I've been trying to help him, anyways, my hands were tied while trying to escape reality and make him forget what is to be said.

"Have you heard about the renovation made in the mayor's place?" I asked him, just to keep the conversation going because the more I give him a silent environment he would recall lol.

"I have also wondered what it would look like" he interrupted my thoughts, he started matching away from the river bank towards the words closest to the town's temple, it's a quiet environment.

"Some said the throne was made with carved woods and stuff like that, what do you think? I asked for his opinion.

"Actually…" he said and paused immediately. It seems something wasn't right in the environment as he looked towards a particular direction with precision, "what is going on" I asked, still confused.

"Shhhh.." he said slowly pulling me forcefully towards a large tree, we sat there, our back resting to the tree, he keeps peeping as if there was something out there, I was getting confused.

"What are you really afraid of Kael?" he said looking at me while I was still peeping behind the tree to see what we were hiding from. "What do you mean?" I asked with a shivered voice. I thought for a second and realized what he did.

"Haha" he laughed at me as he stood up. "As a wolf and a beta, I wonder what you would really be afraid of" he preached, I was getting angry as he kept smiling at me, he doesn't laugh anyways, just to let you know, he's always mean.

We heard a knife noise being pulled from a sheath, at once we told it in that direction. I was in a ready-to-fight pose and he stood there, hands on his back.

"Who's there!!!" He roared.

The faces behind the pulled swords became evident, it was the mayor's personal guards, the ones that only took orders directly from him.

"Someone's in trouble," I said, teasing him. If we were surrounded, I'd have loved to see his expression. I stirred a bit in his direction, he was still in the same pose unperturbed as if we were not about to engage in a fist fight.

I guess that's the kind of confidence you get when you're the Alpha, of course no one would match your arrogance. I was cut off from my thoughts when the guard who had unsheathed his sword earlier began to speak.

He said something like "you and your kind have been making a mess of this town, look what you did earlier today, the mayor even had to order us to take care of you." With that, he signaled his team to charge towards us.

"Urgggh, when's he not making any trouble?" I said. But wait, what did he mean by take care? This should be a false order. Huh, "let's see who takes care of who" I said confidently. I was all ready to pounce and tear when I heard Luca call out my name in what sounded like a plea. " Go easy on them and not one hurt or dead, I think that's enough bloodshed for today."

He's got the balls to tell me what to do with them too and who got us into this mess in the first place? Wait, is this a test? Oh, Luca, I'm tired of your mind games -how do you expect me to teach these humans a lesson without as light as a scratch?

Seeing we were at a far distance from the marching guards, I was frantic and lost for words or actions to play out. " How do I deal with them without as much as a drop of blood". Then, it suddenly came to me -dialogue- but would they listen? They're already on the order of CHARGE!

Soon, we were breathing the same air, swords flying in the air with every miss from the guards. I was more on the defensive than my usual offensive. I was merely looking for an opening to grab his neck and then I saw it…his left shoulder seemed a bit off, aha an oversight.

I quickly took him by that opening, thrusting his arms behind his back and almost knocking the sword off his hands then picked it up slowly and swayed to the guards marching forward to keep them from coming any closer.

"Come at me if you want his neck off his body," I warned but that didn't seem to shake them as they still made an effort to charge. I slid the sword closer to his neck, making a slight cut at his throat, blood spilled.

Tell your team to put their swords down or you'd be in a pool of your own blood in an instant, I whispered nicely in his ears. He raised his hands and they followed, returning the steel in their hands back to its sheath.

Now, hear me out, "what evidence do you have that the incident that occured today was a fabrication of ours?" I quizzed. "You have been known to cause mishap wherever you go " he said while gritting his teeth. It wasn't that hard to trace it to him, he was on the scene.

A sound came from behind me, it was as if someone was clapping. Wait…is he? Luca made his way out from where he was and was jamming his palms together, one would say he was clapping, but at what or whom?

Nicely done, Kael, let me take it from here. Seeing his figure, the guards shivered and in a moment they were all rushing down the hill as quickly as they came. That's how feared he is, he turned to me and the head guard who was still in my embrace and whispered.

"Tell your boss I won't go so easy next time." Let him go, he said.
