First, her advanced Kaido mended his heart, stitching it together seamlessly. Next, his fractured bones were meticulously pieced back into place. Finally, his torn flesh fused as though it had never been injured.
Whether it was due to the severity of his injuries or Unohana's intent to make him thoroughly experience the intricacies of Kaido, the healing process took a considerable amount of time.
About half an hour later under Ren's intense gaze, Unohana's delicate hand glided across his chest and abdomen, finally pausing at his waist. The external wounds vanished completely, leaving not even a scar behind.
"So this is advanced Kaido… It's truly remarkable," Ren remarked with a hint of awe. "But I feel like it's fundamentally the same as the Kaido we learned in class. The main difference seems to be your finesse and the amount of spiritual pressure you used, Unohana-sensei."
Unohana's gaze carried both admiration and a trace of anticipation. "Your comprehension is excellent. Indeed, there's no hierarchy within Kaido. Its efficacy is determined by one's control and precision. It's a skill that improves with practice but also heavily relies on innate talent."
"I think I understand now. Let me give it another try," Ren replied as he stood up, glancing at his torn uniform. He grimaced internally, realizing this was his only set. It seemed inevitable that he'd need to borrow one from Aizen tomorrow.
Walking over to his workbench, he grabbed the trembling white mouse. With a swift motion, he made an incision, opening its chest cavity entirely. Then, summoning the pale blue glow of Kaido, he closed his eyes to focus.
Visualize its uninjured state…
Guide the spiritual particles with precision, like weaving delicate threads…
Five minutes later, Ren stared at the now lifeless mouse on his workbench, deep in thought.
"Your technique is broadly correct," Unohana commented from the side, "but your efficiency is far too low. In a real battle, you wouldn't have nearly as much time to heal a fatal wound."
After a moment's contemplation, Ren stepped back and looked at Unohana. "Unohana-sensei, let's do it again."
"Oh?"
Unohana's brows arched slightly, surprised. She understood his intent immediately. "It seems you truly want to master Kaido that's practical in combat."
The next moment, another spray of blood erupted. Even though Ren was prepared this time, he still couldn't catch the moment Unohana drew her blade.
As he lay there once more, carefully observing her every movement, Unohana felt a sense of satisfaction. Today had proven far more rewarding than she anticipated. This child, whom she had casually picked up from the Rukongai, continued to surprise her.
She had chosen to extend the invitation to Ren because of a gut feeling—a recognition that they were kindred spirits. Like predators meeting on the open plains, a single glance was enough to recognize the ferocity in one another.
Yet Ren's talents had exceeded even her expectations. In zanjutsu, hakuda, shunpo, and kido, he was extraordinary. And his reason for mastering Kaido mirrored her own.
With such potential, how could she not teach him?
She glanced down at his rugged, handsome face, her lips curving into an unconscious smile. How far will you go in the future… and how much can you entertain me?
The 80th district of North Rukongai, Zaraki District, was indeed a place of 'talent.' Back then, she had encountered a child there who was so strong that he made her 'despair,' and now, this child with his head on her lap was giving her the greatest pleasure she had felt in a while.
As the setting sun painted the academy in hues of orange, the day ended for most of the students at Shin'o Academy. In the Kaido classroom, however, Ren was physically drained—both figuratively and literally.
When the classroom door creaked open, the student assigned to clean the room froze in shock. The scene resembled a murder site. The ceiling was streaked with blood that still dripped, forming fresh puddles on the floor, while the air reeked of iron.
And, people were still present in the classroom, one of whom he would recognise anywhere: their beloved Unohana-sensei, while the other person in the room was a bare-chested, pale-looking male student, who looked somewhat unsteady on his feet.
Unohana's hand rested lightly on his abdomen, as she looked at him with a warped smile on her face.
The janitor's mind spiralled into chaos.
What is this? A crime scene?
Wait…is Unohana-sensei…touching his abs?!
Great body by-the-way....
What am I even thinking?!
No, more importantly, WHAT am I looking at?!
The janitor shut the door with a loud click.
I must've opened it the wrong way. This can't be real.
He opened it again cautiously. This time, the two figures had separated. Unohana wore her usual gentle smile, while Ren, though pale, gave him an odd look.
"Uh… Unohana-sensei… I didn't see anything," the janitor stammered, stiffly attempting to retreat. Why did it have to be me on duty today?! Am I about to be silenced?!
Before he could leave, Unohana stopped him. "Ah, dear student, I'm sorry for the extra mess today. We were just practicing Kaido."
"...Practicing Kaido?"
The janitor glanced around at the blood-soaked room, then at the caged white mice. Could mice really produce this much blood?
And then at Ren—wobbling on his feet, his face ghostly pale. Wait… was all this blood his? No, impossible. Unohana-sensei is so kind; she'd never use a student like that. Right?
Nervously gripping his broom and mop, he ventured in. "I'll… start c-cleaning now."
"Thank you for your hard work," Ren offered awkwardly, feeling somewhat guilty. He wasn't too concerned about misunderstandings, but cleaning up this mess would certainly take time. He would've offered to help if he weren't feeling so light-headed.
Kaido was powerful but not omnipotent. While Unohana could heal his wounds, she couldn't replenish the significant blood loss he had endured. After experiencing her training three consecutive times, even Ren's seemingly indestructible physique was pushed to its limit. He urgently needed to recover—and there was only one place for that: the cafeteria.
"That's enough for today," Unohana said as she gracefully stepped across the blood-streaked floor. Her voice was calm, but as she turned back to him, her smile carried a hint of mischief. "Let's see..Hmm…Our next Kaido class is the day after tomorrow. Make sure you're well-prepared."
Her eyes glinted playfully. "Next time, I'll be even stricter~"
Ren pressed a hand to his chest, shaking his head at the thought. She won't accidentally kill me one of these days…right?
As the idea crossed his mind, a sigh escaped his lips. He had a long way to go if he wanted to graduate early. To achieve that, every core and elective course instructor needed to be satisfied with his performance. Any single disapproval would bar his 'speedrun' ambitions.
He couldn't help but wonder if the academy might even impose a special exam for a prodigy like him who sought early graduation. But such concerns would have to wait.
Passing by the stunned janitor, whose face was still frozen in disbelief, Ren shook his head, deciding to put his swirling thoughts aside for now.
His immediate priority was clear: head to the cafeteria and eat to restore his vitality. While he bore no visible wounds, his core energy—what he considered his 'life force'—had plummeted to 40%.
Right now, even standing upright felt like an achievement. And so, driven by necessity, he staggered off toward the promise of replenishment.
