Kevin was running back to his mom, as the reason he had come was not the best decision. He asked for help from some people on the street, hoping they would tell him the way to the hospital and help him get his mom there, but everyone ignored him as if he didn't even exist to them. One man told him the location of a hospital but did not help him. So, he decided to bring his mother there himself on his shoulder because it was close to the slum.
As he was running once again, he stumbled upon a can and stood up. As he continued running, he heard a girl screaming from a narrow space between two houses. Even though Kevin didn't have time, he couldn't just ignore that, just like everyone ignored him, or else he would be just like them. He looked where the scream came from and saw a man harassing a girl and attempting to rape her.
At that moment, it reminded him of an incident that occurred with his mother months ago. A sudden rage swept through his body.
He looked around to see what he could use to stop him. After a while of searching for an object from his surroundings, he found a knife.
"You stop it, let her go right now."
Just as the thug turned back, he noticed Kevin holding a knife in both hands while shaking in fear.
"Huh? What's your deal, kid? You wanna join?"
The thug said as he stepped a bit forward towards Kevin.
Kevin: "Go away, leave her alone."
The guy bent his head to the left and looked at Kevin with confusion.
"Huh? But I won't kill her. What is the problem with having some fun? She is pretty, so she should make everyone happy."
The guy brought his head a bit closer to Kevin with a scary smile on his face.
"Don't you think that's why girls are born? To make boys happy?"
Kevin was scared and couldn't even think of what to do.
At that exact moment, the girl from behind kicked the guy forward again, causing him to fall on Kevin. As he lifted himself, the man looked at his stomach. Kevin stood up right then as well. Kevin noticed the knife was already fully inside his stomach.
When Kevin saw the knife, he was both terrified and shocked.
"Uh, I didn't want to…"
The guy took his hand closer to the knife.
"Uhh, I will help you."
Kevin said as he grabbed the knife and pulled it out.
Blood splashed across Kevin's face as he pulled the knife from his stomach.
"Keuk, you bastard! Just because I thought that you were a kid, and I should just let you go, you're trying to kill me now."
"And you, bitch, I will kill you, and then fuck you and throw your body in the middle of the road."
He was holding his stomach due to the pain from the injury, and his voice was not very clear either.
The guy slapped Kevin, which sent him a few meters back.
"Uhh, I'm... I didn't want to do that."
Kevin tried to stand up, but the guy kicked Kevin's leg from above.
Kevin screamed out loud.
Just then, Kevin realized he needed to see his mother as soon as possible. If he died here, his mother would die as well. He looked at the thug with hesitation before stabbing him in the leg.
The thug took his leg off with pain, and just as Kevin was about to flee, the thug grabbed his shirt from behind. Kevin then cut the thug's hand to make him let go of his shirt. Just as Kevin got out of his grasp, Kevin tried to run, but the thug stopped him again.
"This is enough. I will make sure to give you a painful death."
The thug said as he grabbed Kevin and slammed him to the ground. But it looked like he had forgotten that Kevin had a knife with him.
The thug pulled his fist to punch him, but before that, Kevin instinctively stabbed him again and again in his chest.
Just as Kevin realized that the thug wasn't making any sound anymore, he opened his eyes and saw a scene that he hadn't thought he would see in his entire life. The thug's chest was completely covered in blood, with some flesh protruding from it. He was stuck in the narrow space. His body was leaking blood onto Kevin's face, causing his face to become covered in red blood.
He pushed the thug and stood up. He was unable to comprehend what had just happened to him. When he saw the girl he had come to save, she was looking at him as if he was a monster who would kill her.
"Let me go, please."
Using her leg and hand, she crawled back a short distance. After a few seconds, she screamed aloud, bringing Kevin back to his consciousness. Kevin dropped the knife and started running again.
He ran and ran until he finally saw his mom lying on a side where he last saw her before leaving for the medicine store. He rushed towards his mother, and just from the sound of his footsteps, she opened her eyes.
She tried to lift herself up, so Kevin lifted his mother a bit, making her sit.
"Mom, are you alright? Let's go to the hospital, I…"
Kevin's mother took his hand and placed it on Kevin's face.
"Son, it looks like you had to go down the path I didn't want you to go."
Kevin looked at her with shock since he remembered that he just killed someone and now he was a killer.
"But don't worry, you shouldn't blame yourself for this."
Kevin took his mother's hands off his face.
"Mom, you shouldn't talk much. We have to hurry."
His mother took her hand out from Kevin and placed it back on his face.
"We both know that I cannot be saved, so let us not waste time. I have some important things to tell you that you should remember."
Kevin's eyes filled with tears as soon as he heard those words.
"Alright, now don't ever forget the things I'm about to tell you, okay? 1) You don't have to be a good guy. You don't have to think about others, but yourself, except if you meet someone in the future that you truly trust. 2) As long as you think of the things happening to you and the people who are doing this to you as bad or evil, you will never be able to escape their trap. It's a world where strong people control weak people to live a good life. It's either eat or be eaten. 3) Don't expect anyone to help you. It's just you and you alone. Sorry for making you alone, my son. I should have taken care of myself a bit better. But now you are just alone. 4) Do whatever you can to live. It doesn't matter if your actions lead to the death of someone else. 5) Don't act in anger, control your anger or it will drag you down. I think this is enough... Oh, and although you shouldn't expect anyone to come, if anyone does come, accept them with open arms, so you can live a happy life, of course. Although no one came for me, so I would say this is less likely, but if someone does come... cough, cough…"
"Guess I don't have much time anymore. Alright now, son, just give me one last hug. I hope I can be your mother in the next life too."
Then she hugged him, and Kevin hugged her too while tears were coming down his face. They just stayed like that for a few minutes. Then Kevin felt a weird feeling in his chest all of a sudden.
"Mom! Mom, you can still hear me, right? Mom! Mom…"
Kevin did not want to let her go from his hug, so he hugged her even tighter and began crying out loud as the rain began to fall. The amount of rain increased as Kevin's crying became louder…
