The room was still, save for the faint rustle of covers as Eva shifted in her sleep.

Lucian lay wide awake beside her, his body stiff and tense as his mind refused to settle.

He stared at the ceiling, the faint moonlight filtering through the curtains casting soft shadows across the room.

His decision to lift her from the floor to the bed earlier now seemed like an error in judgment.

She was restless, moving unpredictably, and he had no idea what to expect next.

Just then, she stirred again. Her arm stretched out, her hand brushing against his stomach.

The contact was light but startling enough to make him clench his jaw.

He glanced at her cautiously, his breath held as though even a sigh might wake her.

Her face was serene, her breathing steady, lips parted slightly as if lost in a dream. Lucian exhaled slowly, convinced she was unaware of her actions.
