Chapter 1 - Origins

(THIRD PERSON POV)

Date: July 3rd 1993

"Push, just one more" said the midwife. The pregnant women screamed out loud and finally gave birth. The newborn was a boy with dark blue eyes and black hair who was bawling his eyes out. The women's name was Evangelion Blake who seemed to be in her early twenties with black hair and hazel eyes and was staring at the child with wonder and eyes filled with warmth. "What will you name him" asked the midwife. After careful consideration she named him Terrence Blake or Terry for short. Soon after she was discharged she went back to her one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn,NY and spread the news amongst her neighbors. After a few weeks she returned to work at her local grocery store and left Terry with a nearby kindergarten.

[Time Skip] - 5 years

Terry was an unusual boy. He seemed too mature and smart for his age even learning to read and walk earlier than others. Despite having ADHD and mild dyslexia he was a quiet child who always read books be it fiction or subjects like maths or science. He especially took an interest in Greek mythology and always asked his mother to read stories about them before bed. He could even read Ancient Greek partially as he had accidentally discovered it while reading one of his mythology books. His classmates liked to bully him for his reclusive life style.

His mother told him stories about his father who had left her right before he was born. She described him as a tall handsome man with electric blue eyes and she couldn't help but fall in love with him. She was especially resentful that he couldn't even be there for his own child's birth though she understood his circumstances.

(TERRY'S POV)

I was now 7 years old and was skinny but had a lean body which was developed more than it should have been for my age. "Man school was boring like usual" I said out loud while walking back home. It didn't seem as interesting as it was 2 years ago as I was already learning things at least 3 years above my grade's level. I have always been first in my class and often got jealous looks from my classmates and got picked on by bullies. To stop getting bullied I had asked mom to enroll me in karate to help defend myself, mom almost instantly agreed and said it might come in handy in the future. I couldn't help but think that sentence might have a deeper meaning than it seemed to have at first.

Anyway life seemed almost perfect, until 2 days ago when I saw a 7 foot tall man walking across the street who only had one eye. He looked weirdly like a cyclops so I thought I was hallucinating.

A week later, Scratch that I was NOT hallucinating. I have seen 7 more monsters like the cyclops in the past week alone and the worst part is that no one else seemed to notice, so I deduced that something may be preventing them from noticing anything wrong. I told mom about this and she also thought I was having hallucinations, though after that she kept mumbling about needing to more away or something so I thought she might know something about this and that there was something she wasn't telling me.

I began training karate harder and decided to try to learn how to use a knife that I cough…stole…cough 'borrowed' just in case I meet a monster.

After 2 months, I was just walking to my home after school at around 5 pm on a Thursday when I saw another cyclops which was holding what looked like a bronze Greek xiphos which I had only seen in books, "Hehe demigod come here I haven't eaten godling flesh in soo long." it said hungrily licking it's lips. I froze when it called me a demigod and my mind started racing with thoughts about the reason for my weirdly tough constitution and the reason I was physically stronger than kids even 3-4 years older than me. After I calmed down and it started rushing at me I pulled out the knife I had hidden in my shoes and I charged at it. I know in hindsight it's kinda dumb to charge at something twice your size and strength but I was caught up in the moment so sue me. I sidestepped its first stab aimed at my head, and tried to stab it in its balls, 'tried' being keyword. The knife didn't affect it at ALL and went through it without hurting it in the slightest. Due to this I was left wide open and it scored a deep gash on my shoulder which could have easily decapitated me. "Shit" I said out loud because it hurt a lot.

I realized I didn't have any way to hurt it and ran towards a random building at full speed. It started chasing me and somehow managed to keep up with me and even start gaining on me, so I ran up the stairs of a building trying to make a plan in process. When I reached the roof it thought I was cornered so it started rushing even faster towards me. When it had reached and launched itself after me I had positioned myself right next to the ledge so I jumped away at the last second and used it's momentum against it by pushing it when it was right next to the ledge so it fell around 10 stories and hit the ground hard enough to turn into some golden colored dust and all that remained was its bronze xiphos. I was completely exhausted and collapsed on the ground because of all that running and I was mentally strained as well because I had just realized I had come way too close to death. "First things first I going to get that sword before anyone comes and notices it on the ground."

Luckily it had died at the alley side of the building so no one saw it. I took the lift and walked to pick it up as I was very tired. It was around 3 feet long with a wooden grip and was slightly rusted. It felt it bit heavy for me but I figured I would grow into it. "The cyclops was right I really am a demigod but I should probably fix my wound up before I go home and find an excuse to tell my mom why I was late from school." I used a first aid kit that I always carried in my backpack (you never know when something could happen) to reduce blood loss and I covered it up so none could see and had tried to go home as fast as I could.

When I reached home my mom asked me where I had been so I said "The teacher asked me to stay back to help with some board work." My mom sighed "You don't have to lie to me. You saw a monster didn't you?" I was hoping that she didn't see through my lie so easily but then again she can basically detect when I'm lying with such precision that's it's actually scary. "Yes, yes I did I got into a fight with one and barely won." I sighed while mentally preparing myself for the mental onslaught I was going to incur. She immediately checked my body for any injuries and gasped when she saw the gash on my shoulder and immediately took me to a nearby clinic to heal it and check if I have any other dangerous wounds.

After a week

After I was fully healed she started crying and said "This is all my fault. I tried my best to make you think that they don't exist and you got hurt in the process. You had to fight even though your so young. I have been a horrible mother and I will make sure that you are safe now. You are a demigod and the son of Zues. The very same ones from Greek mythology. After a few weeks we will go to place called camp half blood which is a safe haven for demigods." I was stricken hard by the information and it took me a few minutes to comprehend that I was one of sons of Zues, one of 3 sons of Kronos and the fact that all of the myths are real and they all exist. She said "You have to stay at camp half blood as your scent, the thing that allows monsters to find you is very strong and the older you get the more danger you will be in. These few weeks may be the last time we see each other because a mortal like me cannot get in the camps borders." I was crying at this point and said "I don't want to leave you I need you. Isn't there anyway you can come with me" She shook her head sorrowfully and replied "No, there isn't and you will be safe so it is the best I can do for you." "Then I will make these few weeks the most memorable of my life." I said confidently. Then my mom nodded her head, kissed my forehead and read me a bed time story to help me go to sleep.

2 weeks later

I kept my promise and spent as much time with mom as I could. Christmas was a couple of days ago and we had a lot of fun and she took me to a fair as well!

The Next Day

We were gonna go camp half blood in a week but mom had to go to work on emergency today and it's her final day at her job. I was practicing how to wield my xiphos and was still getting used to its weight when my neighbor suddenly rang the doorbell. I quickly hid the sword and answered it. Mrs Rose who was one of my mom's friends said "There had been a gas leak at your mom's grocery store and she had been critically injured. " My eyes widened and was shocked beyond words and my world seemed to fall apart. She saw grief and took me with her to the hospital my mom was at. When we arrived I ran as fast as I could to see her.

He went in the emergency room and found my mom barely breathing with surgeons around her, I rushed to her and said "NO, Mom please don't leave me please tell me you will be fine." My mom smiled and replied "I'm sorry Terry but I don't think I have much time left, just know that you are my pride and joy and nothing will ever be as important as you are to me, that I want you to be safe no matter what and that I will always Love you and be with you." She then closed her eyes one final timer and one of the surgeon's told me that her pulse is gone and that she has passed away. I couldn't think straight and her lifeless body was engraved in my mind. I ran away from there as fast as I could and back to home so I could so I could grieve for her.
