Momo sat on the edge of Hirata's bed, her brow furrowed in concentration as she tightened the padlock on his window. Her younger brother, sprawled on the bed with a gaming console in hand, barely glanced up."Is this really necessary?" Hirata asked, letting out a sigh as his in-game character met another untimely demise."Yes, Yozora doesn't trust you." Momo hissed."Why would your boyfriend have a problem with me?" Hirata drawled, rolling his eyes. "I'm a middle schooler, not a rival.""You don't get it," Momo snapped, spinning around with a dramatic flair. "He's convinced you're a threat to our relationship just because you...exist."Hirata stared at her, unblinking. "He's insane.""Yes, and he's also the student council president, so people listen to him," Momo muttered, dragging a heavy bookshelf in front of Hirata's door. "I won't take any chances. You're staying in here, safe and sound.""What if I need to go to the bathroom?" Hirata deadpanned."I'll bring you a bucket," Momo replied, entirely serious. As if on cue, a knock echoed from the front door. Momo froze. She didn't need to guess who it was. Yozora had a very distinct way of knocking-calm, deliberate, and just threatening enough to raise the hairs on her neck."Stay here," she hissed at Hirata before bolting out of the room. She threw herself against the front door, pressing her weight against it like it would magically make Yozora go away."Momo," came his honeyed voice from the other side. "Why is your brother avoiding me?""Avoiding you?" she squeaked, trying to sound casual. "Don't be ridiculous! He's...um...busy!""Busy with what?" Yozora asked, his tone as sweet as poisoned honey."Homework," she lied.Yozora paused. "It's saturday, Momo."Momo groaned inwardly. She heard the sound of his knuckles brushing against the door. "Let me in, love. I should talk to him. It's only fair to clear up any misunderstandings.""NO!" she yelped, immediately regretting her outburst. "I mean, he's not feeling well. Stomach bug. Very contagious."Yozora was quiet for a moment. Too quiet. Then came the faint sound of him chuckling. "I see. Well, perhaps I should leave some medicine.""Not necessary!" Momo exclaimed. "We've got plenty."From upstairs, Hirata's muffled voice yelled, "We're out of aspirin!"Momo slapped her forehead."You're making this too obvious," Yozora said, now amused. "What's really going on, Momo?"Before she could answer, there was a loud crash from upstairs, followed by Hirata's panicked cry: "MOMO! THE PADLOCK BROKE!"Momo bolted up the stairs, leaving Yozora outside. She burst into Hirata's room to find him holding the remnants of the broken padlock and pointing at the now-open window."See? This is what happens when you buy cheap locks!" Hirata complained."No time for this!" Momo snapped, dragging him toward the barricaded door.Downstairs, Yozora's voice floated up to them, oddly cheerful. "Should I come up, love?"Hirata turned pale. "You have to protect me. I'm just a kid!""I'm trying!" Momo growled, shoving him under the bed. "Stay there and don't make a sound. If he finds you, we're both dead!"As she barricaded the room with anything she could find, she heard Yozora's footsteps ascending the stairs. Her heart pounded as she prepared to face her yandere boyfriend once again.
