In the Necroforce Camp, a thick forest far away from civilization in Metropolis there was a group of tents spread. They surrounded a big circular contraction with a diameter of ten meters. In the middle ofbthe contraction were two teenagers, nervously sitting in the middle of the runes waiting for their Pets.
"What do you think we will get?" Zephyr asked as he touched his knee as he sat on his crossed legs in a meditative position. But there was no response.
"Sera, Sera" He hushed trying to get her attention. "Seraphin...a"
"We are to sit silently and meditate as we listen to our breaths as we project our energy into our surroundings." Seraphina said with her eyes still shut as she continued her meditation.
"But we've being at it for over ten hours now and nothing has happened. I am tired and hungry." Zephyr argued as he struggled to keep his back straight and keep the appearance of him still meditating.
"That's when you keep pushing." Seraphina said as she mentioned her breathing pattern focusing on her meditation.
"Are you sure those guys know what they were talking about and are not quacks I mean, a seven days fast locked in a room with no distraction from outside, my mind is as screwed up as it can be. You only had to fast for two days before butting in into this shenanigans."
"And those two days I fasted diligently." Seraphina quickly added with an angry sigh. "I would not let you take my blessings."
"Your blessings?" Zephyr asked mockingly. "This is my initiation, it was planned for me. If there was a pet to show up now it was to go to me and not you and there is a high probability of only one showing up since this ritual was made for one and I don't know how they want to magically make two to appear two days before the ritual."
Seraphina's breathe grew louder as she struggled to focus on her breathing. 'I would not fall into your trap. I would not give into anger I will keep my calm and reserve as the type of lady I want to be in the society.' She filled her mind with calming thoughts only to hear Zephyr scoff with no intention to hide what he was doing.
They are both friends, best friends if you may say. Seraphina's mom was Zephyr's mom's best friend and have been for many years now after their first encounter in a Parents Come To School Day in their junior years. Zephyr was once a calm, quiet boy and still plays that font but as they grew older it became evident how much of a jerk he could be. He knew when to stop but would not stop not until he has seen cracking and breaking down.
After getting to know that Seraphina would not give him the satisfaction that he wants. He would not see her breakdown before him. She was a strong independent woman!
"Do you still play those scenarios in your head?" Zephyr asks as he tilts his head not bothering to keep the pretence of meditation. He had had enough and was reaching his breaking point. He could not keep this pretense for much longer. He did not feel the initial pain from hunger and thirst as if he had gotten accustomed to it but he could not help but feel very irritated.
Circe Astra, Seraphina's mom was watching her child long with Willow Mistral. They sat quietly as they watched their kids.
"What would you think would happen if one of our children get a pet?" Circe asked as she gently swirled the warm cup of tea in her hand.
"Each child will go back with a Companion." Willow said as she looked at her son with an expressionless face.
"What makes you so sure that they would get not only Pets but above Pets, Companions." Circe asked in a worried tone as she clnked her metal spoon against the ceramic cup earning a disdainful gaze from Willow. "I am sorry" she muttered under her breath as she dropped the spoon.
"What makes you so sure I did not make preparations for you?" Willow asked as she continued watching her son.
"As you know...." Circe began to explain herself but her words were drowned out by Willow's thoughts as she looked at her son. 'He has had a very stressful week, he should be very hungry now in fact farmished, I feel that way too. I don't know how much pain he has had to go through during this ritual, I just pray to the gods, he gets a good Companion.'
'Like I?' Her companion asked, breaking her thoughts as she was brought back to reality.
"Willow?" Circe called out once again before gently holding her hand which Willow quickly pulled back to herself as she rubbed her hands together.
"I am sorry about that but what is wrong?" Circe asked as she drew closer to Willow.
'I had known she was a woman aloof of her surroundings but how can she ask me such insensitive question? We have been here since yesterday night to prepare the ritual that commenced at Midnight and it is day break soon it will be midday and this WoMaN! is asking me what is wrong.' Willow steadied her breath as she continued staring at her son.
"Stop crying they'll come out just fine." Circe said as she took another sip of her warm tea-that is, wine.
Willow wanted to say more reprimand her but what can she say to a woman that has not gone through the process how could she explain to her the pain that her child was going to pass through and is already passing through. I am sure she should have an idea, schools these days explain this process due to the number of children that have been consumed in this process. Just let this be one and over with, I am tired of waiting.
'Willy!' Willow's Companion called for her attention.
'What is it?' Willow asked exasperated before getting irritated by the lack of response and being embraced by the chillness that bathed her spine.
It was here.
She quickly stood up but fell back to her seat due to her drowsiness but she stood up again but almost fell back to her seat. She kicked the table by her side and fell with her hands on all fours in this rocky side of the forest. She summoned all the strength she could and made her way to the Priest as the chillness spread to every part of her body making her freeze were she was.
It did not take long the Priest came out from his tent as he stared as his sister with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"What came?" She muttered with a raspy voice as more tears rolling down as she bit her lips. Did she bite more than what she could chew?
"there is no need to worry." The Priest said as he placed his hands on her and a wave of relieve came over her releasing her from the tension earlier as she gained her colour and looked around the area. Getting closer to the magic circle, it will make no sense to sacrifice her son to such entity if it did not agree to be his Companion.
"Oh my! Has the Pet arrived?" Circe asked as she rushed to Willow and kept with her pace.
"Can you shut up and I have told you to stop calling it PET!!!" Willow said in a weird voice as her eyes shone golden brown making Circe to fall back as fear gripped her from what she had just seen.
'All this waiting can drive one crazy.' Zephyr says to himself as he stood up and glanced around him. This runes had taken a lot of time to make. 'I think it was around the time I started my fasting. I have done what I was meant to do with due diligence, I have run out of patience and I am sure a cup of water will taste heavenly right now.'
He about to step out of the circle into the runes when he hears his mom's voice.
"Don't you dare step out of that thing!"
It looks like his mom but there's a difference. Her eyes are golden brown but her mouth lacks teeth as her lips carve into a very sharp beak. She looks ethereal. Zephyr stays frozen for some minutes but nothing happens. "Can someone tell me what's going on?" He asks with a tired sigh.
"It is here." The Priest says as he draws closer.
'So what's left is a closing ritual. Finally!' Zephyr thought with a sigh. A strange quietness enveloped the area as it a thick blanket has been thrown over the area. A scene no one expected at this point in time was unfolding, there was an entity who could likely be stronger than everyone here combined and could wiped everyone here out, those that unleashed it! And this was all what someone could think about?
"Mom!" Seraphina shouted from her meditative position as she breathed heavily putting all her willpower to not break the rhythm she had started.
