Chapter 198 - Sana's Betrayal

The world seemed to be falling apart at an unimaginable pace. Orion's influence had spread like wildfire, plunging cities into chaos. Power grids failed, communication systems went offline, and governments scrambled to regain control. Every news outlet flashed the same headline: "Global Infrastructure Under Siege by Unknown Force."

Amid the turmoil, Rylan and his team found themselves in the heart of the storm. Their latest escape had left them battered, but their resolve was stronger than ever. Yet, an uneasy tension hung in the air—a subtle shift in dynamics that none of them could quite pinpoint.

The team gathered in their safe house, a dimly lit basement that barely withstood the tremors from the ongoing attacks. Zara sat at her makeshift workstation, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she tried to hack into Orion's mainframe. Evelyn stood by the window, her sharp eyes scanning the streets for any sign of approaching danger.

Sana sat quietly in the corner, her arms crossed, and her gaze distant.

"Anything?" Rylan asked Zara, leaning over her shoulder.

"Nothing yet," Zara replied, frustration evident in her voice. "Orion's system is like a living organism. Every time I get close, it changes. It's almost like it knows I'm there."

Rylan nodded, but his focus shifted to Sana. She had been unusually quiet since their escape from the facility.

"You okay?" he asked her.

Sana looked up, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just... tired. All of this is getting to me."

Rylan didn't push further, but a flicker of doubt crossed his mind.

Hours later, Zara's device pinged.

"Got something," she announced. The team gathered around her as she brought up a transmission intercepted from Orion's network. It was heavily encrypted, but Zara had managed to decode part of it.

The message read: "Phase Two Initiated. Targets: Alpha Team. Confirm Position."

Rylan's blood ran cold. "They know where we are."

Evelyn grabbed her weapon. "We need to move. Now."

Zara began packing her equipment, but Sana hesitated. "Wait. What if this is a trap? What if they're trying to flush us out?"

"They already know we're here," Rylan argued. "Staying is not an option."

Sana's eyes darted to the side, her hands clenching into fists. "Fine. Let's go."

The team barely made it out of the safe house before it exploded behind them. The blast threw them to the ground, and debris rained down like a storm.

"Move!" Rylan shouted, helping Zara to her feet.

Evelyn fired at approaching drones, covering their retreat. But something was off Sana was lagging behind, her movements hesitant.

"Come on, Sana!" Rylan yelled, pulling her along.

They found temporary shelter in an abandoned warehouse. Panting and covered in soot, the team tried to regroup.

"How did they find us so quickly?" Evelyn demanded, her voice sharp.

No one answered, but the question lingered in the air like a heavy cloud.

As Zara worked to assess their next steps, Evelyn pulled Rylan aside. "Something's not right," she whispered.

Rylan frowned. "What do you mean?"

"It's Sana," Evelyn said. "She's been acting strange ever since we escaped the facility. She hesitated back there. And did you notice how she kept questioning our plans?"

Rylan shook his head. "You think she's working against us? That's insane. Sana has been with us through everything."

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "You can't let loyalty blind you. Just... watch her."

Reluctantly, Rylan agreed.

Later that night, while the others rested, Rylan decided to confront Sana. He found her sitting by herself, staring at a small device in her hand.

"What's that?" he asked, stepping closer.

Sana jumped, quickly hiding the device. "Nothing. Just... checking my gear."

Rylan's eyes narrowed. "Sana, if there's something you need to tell me, now's the time."

Sana avoided his gaze. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Before Rylan could press further, Zara's voice came through their comms. "Guys, we've got a problem. Someone's transmitting our location."

The group rushed to Zara's workstation, where a map displayed their coordinates being broadcast in real-time.

"Who's doing it?" Evelyn demanded.

Zara hesitated, her eyes darting toward Sana. "The signal... it's coming from inside this warehouse."

All eyes turned to Sana.

"Sana?" Rylan's voice was a mix of disbelief and betrayal.

Sana's face crumpled. "I didn't have a choice," she whispered.

"What are you talking about?" Evelyn shouted, raising her weapon.

"They have my family," Sana confessed, tears streaming down her face. "Orion found them. They said if I didn't help them, they'd kill them."

Rylan's heart sank. "Why didn't you tell us?"

Sana shook her head. "Because they were watching. If I said anything, they would know. I thought I could protect you and save my family, but I've only made things worse."

Before anyone could respond, the sound of approaching footsteps filled the warehouse. Dozens of Orion operatives surrounded them, weapons drawn.

The team raised their hands in surrender, their expressions a mix of anger and despair.

The leader of the operatives stepped forward, a sinister smile on his face. "Well done, Sana. You've served your purpose."

Sana's eyes widened in horror. "You promised you wouldn't hurt them!"

The leader chuckled. "Promises are overrated."

As the operatives closed in, Rylan locked eyes with Sana. "We'll get through this," he said, his voice firm despite the odds.

But deep down, even he wasn't sure if they would.
