Chapter 151 - The Shadow Council

The explosion at the summit had left Nathan rattled, but he wasn't one to lose focus. The moment he learned about the second device, his instincts kicked in. While the smoke from the decoy bomb filled the room, Nathan, Sana, and Zara regrouped, their minds racing to figure out Jay's endgame.

The summit's location, the hostage situation, and the second device—it all seemed too deliberate. Nathan knew Jay wasn't acting alone. There was a greater force pulling the strings, and they were about to confront it.

After escaping the chaos of the summit, Nathan and his team retreated to a safe house in the city below the snowy peaks. Zara was already busy analyzing the data she had managed to recover from the summit's compromised systems.

"Nathan," Zara called, her voice urgent. "You need to see this."

Nathan and Sana hurried over to Zara's workstation. On the screen was a set of encrypted files, alongside a symbol—a circle with intricate patterns carved within it.

"This symbol," Zara explained, "is tied to something called The Shadow Council. They're a secret group of power brokers—politicians, industrialists, tech giants—working in the shadows to manipulate global events. Jay is one of their pawns."

Sana frowned. "Why would they show their hand now?"

Nathan leaned closer to the screen, his jaw tightening. "They aren't just showing their hand. They're issuing a challenge."

Zara clicked on a decrypted file, revealing coordinates to an abandoned estate in the Swiss Alps. Beneath the coordinates was a message: "Welcome to the real game. Come alone."

Nathan knew walking into the Shadow Council's trap was dangerous, but it was the only way to uncover the truth. Sana and Zara protested, but Nathan was resolute.

"If I don't go, we lose our only lead. This council isn't just targeting us—they're orchestrating global chaos. I have to face them."

Sana grabbed his arm. "Then you're not going alone. Zara and I will stay close, ready to back you up."

Nathan nodded, grateful for their support. "Let's finish this."

The coordinates led them to a massive estate perched on a cliffside. The building was old but fortified, with guards patrolling the perimeter. Nathan approached the main gate, his heart pounding but his resolve unshaken.

The guards didn't stop him. Instead, they opened the gate, silently motioning for him to enter.

Inside, the air was thick with tension. A grand hall stretched before him, filled with long shadows cast by flickering candlelight. At the center of the room was a circular table surrounded by cloaked figures. Their faces were obscured, but their presence radiated authority and menace.

One of them spoke, their voice distorted by a device. "Nathan, welcome. We've been expecting you."

Nathan stood his ground, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of weakness. "Cut the theatrics. What do you want?"

The figure at the head of the table leaned forward. "You've been meddling in our affairs for too long. The Hourglass Protocol, Jay, the summit—all were necessary steps toward a new world order. And you… you're a disruption we can't afford."

Nathan's fists clenched. "You call global destruction a step forward?"

A low chuckle echoed around the room. "You don't see the bigger picture. Chaos is the catalyst for progress. From ashes rises control—a world where only the strongest survive."

Sana's voice came through Nathan's earpiece. "Nathan, we're in position. Say the word, and we'll move in."

Nathan ignored her for now, determined to gather as much information as he could. "You're deluded if you think people will follow you."

The council member chuckled. "They already do. Governments, corporations, even your precious allies—many of them answer to us."

The council's leader continued. "We invited you here not just to warn you but to offer a choice. Join us, and you'll have power beyond your imagination. Resist, and you'll be destroyed."

Nathan's voice was ice-cold. "You think I'd ever join you? You're nothing but cowards hiding behind masks."

The leader sighed, as if disappointed. "Then you've made your choice. Let the world witness the consequences of your defiance."

With a snap of his fingers, the guards entered, weapons drawn.

At that moment, the sound of glass shattering filled the room. Zara's drones swarmed in, disorienting the guards with bright lights and high-pitched frequencies.

"Nathan, move!" Sana shouted through the comms.

Using the chaos to his advantage, Nathan fought his way out, taking down guards with precision. Sana appeared at his side, her weapons blazing as she provided cover.

As they fled the estate, explosions erupted behind them—Zara's handiwork, disabling the council's defenses.

Back at the safe house, Zara revealed what she had managed to extract during the chaos. "I found something big, Nathan. The Shadow Council isn't just pulling strings—they're building something. A massive network of AI-driven systems to control every aspect of society: finance, surveillance, even food supply."

Nathan stared at the data, a sinking feeling in his chest. "They're not just playing the game. They're rewriting the rules."

Zara nodded. "And the final phase of their plan… is already in motion."

Before Nathan could respond, the safe house's power cut out. The room plunged into darkness, and a voice crackled through the comms a voice Nathan recognized all too well.

"Did you think escaping the council would be that easy?" It was Jay. "You've just stepped into the real storm. And this time, Nathan, there's no way out."

The sound of approaching footsteps echoed outside, growing louder with each passing second. Nathan's team prepared for the fight of their lives, knowing that the Shadow Council wasn't finished with them yet.
