Chapter 149 - The Final Blueprint

The countdown on Zara's laptop loomed large, each second ticking down a warning of the devastation to come. 72 hours. That was all the time they had left to stop the Hourglass Protocol from unleashing chaos across the globe. Nathan stared at the screen, his mind racing. He knew their enemy had planned for every possible counterattack. Their only hope now was to outsmart them.

"Zara, tell me you can find where this signal is coming from," Nathan demanded.

"I'm trying," Zara replied, her fingers flying over the keyboard. "But they've buried the signal under layers of encryption. It's like chasing a ghost through a maze."

Sana leaned in, her voice steady. "We don't have time to chase ghosts. What else do we know about the Hourglass Protocol?"

Zara pulled up files she had decrypted earlier. Diagrams and schematics filled the screen. "It's not just a single event. It's a chain reaction a cyberattack targeting global infrastructure. Banks, hospitals, power grids they'll all fall in quick succession."

Nathan clenched his fists. "And once the chaos begins, they'll step in as the 'saviors,' taking control of everything."

"Exactly," Zara said grimly. "The final blueprint of their plan isn't just destruction—it's domination."

Jay's betrayal had shaken them, but his message might still hold a clue. Zara examined it carefully. "He said, 'The clock is already ticking.' That's not just a warning. It's a taunt. He wants us to chase the clock, but we need to think ahead of him."

Nathan paced the room. "What if the countdown isn't just a timer? What if it's leading us somewhere?"

Zara's eyes lit up. "That could be it. Let me trace the data embedded in the timer."

Minutes later, she gasped. "I've got something a hidden set of coordinates."

"Where do they lead?" Sana asked.

"A facility in Eastern Europe. Remote, heavily guarded, and completely off the grid," Zara said. "If this is where they're controlling the Protocol, it could be our chance to shut it down."

Getting to the facility wasn't going to be easy. It was located in the middle of a dense forest, surrounded by high-tech surveillance and armed guards. Nathan knew they couldn't storm in unprepared.

"We'll need to divide our efforts," Nathan said. "Zara, you'll handle the tech. Find a way to disable their security systems remotely. Sana and I will infiltrate the facility and locate the control room. The rest of the team will cover our extraction."

"What about Jay?" Sana asked cautiously.

Nathan's jaw tightened. "If he's there, we'll deal with him."

Night fell as they approached the facility. The air was thick with tension, every rustle in the trees amplifying their nerves. Zara's voice crackled through their earpieces. "You're clear to proceed. I've temporarily disabled their perimeter cameras, but you'll need to move fast."

Nathan and Sana slipped past the first line of guards, their movements silent and precise. Inside the facility, they found rows of servers humming with energy. "This is it," Sana whispered.

Zara guided them remotely. "The control room should be three levels down. Be careful this place is crawling with guards."

As they descended, they overheard snippets of conversation between the guards. "Everything's ready. Once the countdown hits zero, there's no stopping it."

Nathan's heart pounded. They were running out of time.

Reaching the control room, Nathan and Sana found themselves facing a massive screen displaying the final blueprint of the Hourglass Protocol. It was more complex and devastating than they had imagined.

"The entire world will go dark," Sana murmured, her eyes scanning the diagrams. "This isn't just a cyberattack it's a total reset."

Zara's voice came through their earpieces. "I've accessed their system. I can delay the countdown, but only for a short time."

"Do it," Nathan said. "We need every second we can get."

Just as they began uploading Zara's virus to the system, the door burst open. Nathan turned to see Jay standing there, a gun in his hand and a smirk on his face.

"You really think you can stop this?" Jay said, his voice dripping with contempt. "You're too late, Nathan. The Protocol is unstoppable."

Nathan stepped forward, his anger barely contained. "Why, Jay? Why betray everything we stood for?"

Jay's smirk faltered for a moment. "You don't get it, do you? This isn't betrayal. It's survival. The world is broken, and this is the only way to fix it."

Sana stepped beside Nathan. "By enslaving everyone? That's your solution?"

Jay raised his gun, but his hesitation was clear. "It's too late to change anything now. The Protocol will run its course."

Before Jay could pull the trigger, Nathan lunged at him. The two men grappled, their fight a brutal clash of strength and will. Sana used the distraction to continue uploading Zara's virus, her hands trembling as she worked.

"Keep going!" Nathan shouted, blocking a blow from Jay.

Jay sneered. "Even if you stop this facility, there are others. The network is bigger than you can imagine."

"We'll stop them all," Nathan growled, landing a punch that sent Jay reeling.

Just as the virus reached 99%, the facility's alarm blared. Guards were closing in, and Zara's voice crackled with urgency. "You need to get out of there now!"

Sana hesitated, her finger hovering over the final command. "If we leave now, the virus won't fully deploy. We need more time."

Nathan glanced at Jay, who was regaining his footing. Time was slipping away, and the weight of the decision pressed down on him.

"Do it, Sana," Nathan said finally. "We'll fight our way out."

As Sana pressed the final command, the facility shook violently. The virus had triggered a chain reaction, causing the servers to overload. Sparks flew, and the lights flickered ominously.

Jay laughed bitterly. "You think you've won, but this is just the beginning."

Nathan grabbed Sana's hand, pulling her toward the exit as explosions erupted around them. The control room was collapsing, the flames consuming the blueprint they had fought so hard to dismantle.

Outside, Zara's voice came through. "The countdown has stopped, but I'm detecting a new signal. It's... activating something else. This isn't over."

Nathan stared at the burning facility, his heart sinking. Jay's words echoed in his mind: "The network is bigger than you can imagine."

What had they just unleashed?
