Chapter 89 - The Last Piece Of The Puzzle

Amelia sat at the edge of her chair in Lucas's office, staring at the pile of documents spread across the table. For weeks, they had been piecing together clues, chasing leads, and uncovering secrets that painted a web of lies, deceit, and betrayal. But something still didn't fit a crucial piece of the puzzle was missing.

Lucas paced the room, his hands resting on his hips. "We have the stolen files, the witness testimonies, and even Robert's confession," he said, his frustration evident. "But there's still a gap something tying all of this together."

Amelia nodded, her brow furrowed. "It feels like we're looking at a half-finished painting. The outlines are there, but the main subject is missing."

As they debated their next move, a knock at the door startled them. It was Victoria, looking surprisingly calm for someone who had been exiled from the family's affairs.

"I think I might have what you're looking for," she said, holding up a small, weathered journal.

Lucas eyed her suspiciously. "Why would you help us now?"

"Because," Victoria replied, her voice steady, "if this goes on, it will destroy everyone including me. I made mistakes, but I never intended for things to spiral out of control like this."

Amelia hesitated, then gestured for Victoria to come in. "What's in the journal?"

Victoria handed it to her. "It belonged to Father," she explained. "It's his personal log. It contains information about secret dealings, alliances, and... something called 'The Final Accord.'"

Lucas's eyes narrowed. "The Final Accord? What is that?"

Victoria shook her head. "I don't know. But it's mentioned several times, always in connection with a name—Dominic Kane."

The name sent a chill through the room. Dominic Kane was a notorious figure, known for his ruthless tactics in the underworld. If he was involved, the stakes were even higher than they had imagined.

Amelia flipped through the journal, her heart pounding. "These entries are coded," she said, her voice tinged with urgency. "We'll need to decrypt them."

Lucas picked up his phone and called Zara, the tech genius who had helped them before. Within an hour, Zara was in the office, her laptop humming as she worked to decode the journal.

"This is advanced encryption," Zara muttered, her fingers flying over the keyboard. "But nothing I can't handle."

As the hours ticked by, tension in the room grew. Lucas and Amelia exchanged nervous glances, while Victoria sat silently, her gaze distant. Finally, Zara leaned back in her chair, a triumphant smile on her face.

"I've got it," she announced. "The Final Accord isn't a document or a meeting—it's a plan. A contingency plan to take down everyone involved if things ever went south."

Amelia's blood ran cold. "A plan by who? Father?"

Zara shook her head. "No, by Dominic Kane. It's his safety net. And it names all his collaborators including someone very close to you."

Lucas's jaw tightened. "Who?"

Zara hesitated, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. Then, she clicked on a file, and a name appeared on the screen.

Amelia gasped as she read it aloud. "Martin?"

The revelation hit like a thunderbolt. Martin, their trusted confidant, was listed as a key ally of Dominic Kane.

"That can't be right," Amelia whispered, her mind racing. "Martin has been with us through everything. He's family."

Lucas's expression darkened. "Or he's been playing us from the start."

Before they could process the information, Zara's laptop beeped again. Another file had decrypted, revealing a location a secluded estate on the outskirts of the city.

"It looks like Kane's headquarters," Zara said.

Amelia stood, determination in her eyes. "We need to go there. If this is where the Final Accord is being executed, we have to stop it."

Lucas grabbed her arm. "It's too dangerous. We don't know what we're walking into."

"We don't have a choice," Amelia argued. "If we wait, it might be too late."

Victoria stepped forward. "She's right. If you're going, I'm coming too. I know how these people operate. You'll need me."

Lucas reluctantly agreed, and the three of them prepared for the confrontation ahead. As they left the office, Zara called out, "Be careful. This isn't just about stopping Kane it's about uncovering the truth. And the truth might be more dangerous than you think."

The weight of Zara's words hung in the air as they drove towards the secluded estate. The night was thick with tension, and each passing minute seemed to drag on longer than the last. Amelia sat in the backseat, her mind racing with the possibilities. Could Martin really be involved with Dominic Kane? How long had he been playing both sides? The thought made her stomach churn, but there was no turning back now. They had come too far.

Lucas, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, kept his eyes on the road ahead. His mind was also reeling from the revelation. Martin had been a close ally, someone they had trusted without question. How could he have betrayed them so completely? The message from the unknown number had only made things worse. Was it a warning or a trap?

Victoria, sitting in the passenger seat, stared out the window, lost in her thoughts. She had her own suspicions about Martin, but now that everything was coming to light, she wasn't sure who to trust anymore. The deeper they went into this, the more dangerous it became. She could feel the tension building, the walls closing in around them.

As they approached the estate, the once-imposing mansion loomed ahead, its dark silhouette cutting through the night. The front gates were locked, but the driveway was wide open, as though inviting them in. The unsettling silence made it feel like the calm before a storm.

"We're here," Lucas muttered, slowing the car. He didn't take his eyes off the estate, as though looking away might make it all disappear.

Amelia took a deep breath. "This is it. Let's finish this."

They all got out of the car, their footsteps heavy on the gravel. But just as they approached the front door, Lucas's phone buzzed again. This time, it wasn't a message it was a call. He answered it without hesitation.

"Lucas," the voice on the other end whispered, "don't go inside. It's a trap. I'm already here, and they're waiting for you."

Lucas's heart raced. "Who is this?" he demanded, his grip tightening on the phone.

But before the person could answer, the line went dead.

Amelia's breath hitched. "What now?"

Lucas looked around, his eyes scanning the darkness. "We're not alone."

A shadow moved in the distance, just out of sight, and a figure stepped forward into the dim light. It was Martin. But he wasn't alone. Behind him, a group of armed men stood, blocking their path.
