Chapter 39 - The Start of Curiosity

"Hmm, if he showed up in Whisper's Den, that means the Celestial had already began their investigation."

"The three assassins that we sent earlier seems to have been killed, they also summoned a demon which also got defeated by him."

"Let's retreat for now, we won't be able to defeat him or any of the Celestials."

"Alright."

The two robed men then walked out of the cliff and made their way down.

"Another thing, is there a report from the border guys?"

"Yes, i heard they have succeeded with their task."

A few days later, in Penrough, a city that is located at the most North part of Silverglen..

"Here, its finally done!"

Meiryn slammed an object to the counter table, she's currently in the City's Adventurer's Guild, the object that she brought to the table was the Tusk of Basilisk she killed from before, it is required for adventurer to bring one of the monster body parts as a proof for their quest completion.

"Ohh! Meiryn, you're still alive!– Thank you for your hardwork, may i see your Adventurer Card?" Said one of the guild receptionist.

"Why do i need to show it if you already know me.."

"Just to make sure!" The receptionist smiled.

"Here."

Meiryn then reached out to her satchel that is covered by her robe and then pulled out a card made out of steel, it contains her name and and her job with the official guild logo at the side, theres also a small magic crystal imbued within the steel card and its purpose is to recognize the true owner of the mana that is inside of the crystal, if somehow other people that doesn't own this card gets a hold of it, the crystal will be activated and turn red in color.

"Confirmed, here's your reward."

The receptionist gave Meiryn her rewards of 35 Gold coins which then put inside of her pouch.

"I almost died there and all im getting is merely 35 golds? What a shitty quest.." Meiryn said as she turned and walks away while the receptionist can only smile.

This week is particularly a busy day inside of the Guild, that's because it's currently the end of the month, and most Adventurers have already used up all of their saving, so to fill up their pockets once again for the next week, many of them goes to the guild again for quests.

'No matter how many times i enter this place, i can't smell anything but alcohol, seems like there will be a party tonight..'

Meiryn heard the laughter of all the adventurers that is inside the building, not just humans, but there were also elves and demihumans in the building, they're sharing a glass of beer and food, some of them were screaming and enjoying themselves without thinking about other people, for normal people, this atmosphere would be uncomfortable for them as the constant chaos that is unfolding can disrupt their time, but in an Adventurer's Guild, where the strong and brave gathers, this kind of things is seen as a daily occurence.

After leaving the guild through the door, Meiryn was greeted once again by Arcsen, who is waiting for her the whole time.

"Are you done?" He said.

"Huh? What the hell are you doing here? I thought we went our separate ways..."

"Well, i thought you might need someone, i noticed that you don't have a party unlike many adventurers, a lone wolf huh?" Arcsen smirked.

"I don't need them, im confident enough with my skill, also did your hearing worked again?"

"Yes, i went to a nearby priest before coming here, the priest healed my injury with a cheap price."

"Uaahh, you're filthy rich aren't you, do you know how expensive healing from a priest is— Well still, i just thought that working with someone is not my thing.."

"If you're bad at communicating, just say it."

"SHUT UP!"

Meiryn accidentally raised her voice a little bit too much, her shout attracted some attention to her and Arcsen, making her feel embarrassed for screaming like that in public.

"A- anyway, what do you want?"

"Right, You haven't repaid me for saving your life yet, i think it's pretty normal for me to ask for your help."

"You! Ugh, you want me to pay you? alright fine, how much money do you want.."

"It's not money, don't worry about that, you can sleep with a roof above your head, you should thank me."

"This bastard!!.. URGH!!"

Meiryn clenched her fist, resisting the urge to punch Arcsen in the face, Arcsen himself kept smiling the whole time, as if enjoying his time making fun and playing with Meiryn, his tail swayed left and right in amusement.

"sigh.. So? What do you, an 8-Star mage and also a Celestial, want me to do?"

"Let's get straight to the point, i want you to go out with me and investigate a secret organization that destroyed Whisper's Den village."

It was a strange request indeed, Meiryn can only be confused as she raised her eyebrown, if exaggeration were real, there would be a question mark above her head right now.

"What kind of request is that, with your strength, you should be able to demolish a whole town by yourself, why do you need my help?"

Arcsen chuckled.

"I just want a company, that's it, i'll pay you handsomely."

'He'll pay me? If its coming from him, then it would be a lot, if its a Large Coin, there's no way i can refuse it!' Meiryn thought, she grinned inside of her mind but remained calm infront of Arcsen.

"I guess there's no reason for me to refuse, you just need a company right? So, what are we dealing with? a bandit gang?"

"Great! You remember how i fought a demon and assassins in that village before i rescued you right?– Well, those assassins turns out to be one of the member of that organization, based on that assassin alone, this organization is either a Demonic Cult or something similar, whichever the case, they're most definitely up to no good."

"Really? Aren't demonic cult a common thing nowadays? those guys will be killed alongside their cult, but then reappear again under a new leader and name, demonic cults are like unkillable parasites, but instead of taking control, they get crushed over and over again by the holy church."

"That's true, they've existed for a long time, however i think there might be something different about this one."

"And that is?"

"You're interested in it too, let's continue our talk in a more private place."

Arcsen left Meiryn with a burning curiosity lingering in her hearts, for her who is born as a battle junkie, passing on the opportunity to fight against an entire organization is something that she couldn't do, she is already too interested, even though her initial intend is to refuse Arcsen's request.

"Huh? Wait! Don't leave me with that shitass answer!!" She said while running towards Arcsen.

They eventually stopped at an inn, where they then spend some money for a drink and food, fortunately the inn is crowded with people, and since the table are all far away from eachother, talking about their plan there wouldn't be a problem as long as they don't shout.

At the King's Castle in Larim, Latricia..

"What?.." Said King Edharn, bewildered by what he just heard.

He's sitting in the throne room alone, his wife and kids are all not present, they're doing their own activities, alongside Edharn, there are also his advisor who gives him a recommendation and also guide on what would be the best thing to do for the kingdom is, basically he is Edharn's right hand man, other than him, there is also a couple knight commanders that is guarding the room, however there are an extra person in there and that person is Alaric.

Alaric went inside to meet with Edharn, his intention is to report on the news that he just received from the kingdom's border patrol guard.

"Is that true!?.." Said King Edharn again.

"Yes, your majesty, it is really what i heard, a town that is located near the border had just been attacked by a group of people, and one of the guards in there said— That those people wore a full cover robe with the symbol of Highlios Kingdom!!"
